RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Amazing looking unit!
IMO this is how zombies should look. Thanks you've given me some ideas/inspiration for. My own army.

The first of my necromancers is this little beauty. It's a model by Enigma Miniatures, perfect for my army theme, which is necrarch/necromancer ugly and withered, none of that pretty von Carstein or Lahmian stuff. The base is a 20mm mantic plastic thing, from the zombies set, nice and square and flush sides, never understood why bases have to be chamfered.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

That model is beautiful. Your skin tones are done so well where they really reflect the lack of life in the zombie, but still has enough color to provide contrast. The boils/ lesions on the skin are quite superb and the work you did on the clothing is great. The only bit of CC I could provide would perhaps to do some brighter and more intense shades in the eyes of her pet, but that's only a minor thing.

Keep up the great work!

Jake

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Excellent work, those zombies are great as is the necromancer. Looking forward to seeing whats next

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

I really like your zombies! they have a very earthly feel to them and look very realistic.
keep up the good job!!!

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

I painted up a second necromancer. It's a Rackham model I picked up on ebay. There's some lovely detail on the model that unfortunately you can't really see unless you pick it up and look real close. There's a crow and a gutted cat hanging from the waist, presumably raw ingredients for the magic mixture in the pot.

And here's a comparison with the first necro, I hope they will still be useful in the new book.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

That looks amazing, particularly the green glowy. Also, you could use it as a vampire pretty easily.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

I was captured by the detailed sickle and the bloodstained robe underneath it. These mini's are insanely detailed, well done! I'm going to keep following this one for sure.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Splendid work on the Zombies! Really look like a horde
who soon will rip the flesh of some poor villagers.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Wow :O

Your painting skills are amazing....I can't really say more. The palette used works perfectly, and can't really say any negative.

Nice work

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Since your loving necromancer's so much I really wish you would enter the monthly challenge of converting a empire wizard into a necromancer.
I must say that last necromancer you did was just awesome. It is always a pleasure to see your beautiful work.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

The most awesome looking Zombies ever. And I love the bases with the mud.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting zombies)

Great looking stuff!

When you do your glazes, are you just making a wash out of the paint by adding water? If so, what proportions do you use? If not, do you actually add a glaze medium to your paint and if so what proportions?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to pick up as many painting tips as I can!

Keep up the great work and can't wait to see more!!

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting ghouls)

It's been a while :boring:, but I am inspired to work on the VC army once again. At the moment, it's nothing like an army, just one unit of zombies and two necromancers painted. Obviously I have no need for any more necromancers, so that's what I am restarting with. I tend to just paint things as they appeal to me, not worry too much about how the army performs, it's more a collecting and building thing for me.

So, here she is, the hottest chick down in the graveyard, with her minions. It's a little conversion based on a Malifaux figure (Zoraida the Hag) with a few plastic skaven bits and some mantic zombie parts. Nothing too difficult to achieve, but it works for me. She will most likely be a necromancer, but could be used as a ghast, or ghoul queen as she insists on being called.

I am aiming to get her painted within a week, and the ghouls by the end of the month.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting ghouls)

It is fantastic work. I think these miniatures have had justice done to the sculpts. Many opponents may simply run away before the first dice is thrown!

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting ghouls)

Unfortunately the links to my photobucket account dont work at the moment. So some of my pictures have disappeared. While the mad scientists slave away trying to rectify the problem, I thought I could link to another photo, so here's the ghoul regiment.

I discovered that using a black background really helps to show the figures true to life, so I took the opportunity to re-photograph the zombie regiment, painted over a year ago. I have recently touched up the scenery elements and added a few leaves for a tiny splash of colour.

I am still working on the hag, hoping to get her finished this week. I have also built my next model and made a base for it, so the army is taking shape very slowly. At least, the fleshy bits are. I love skeletons but still have a bit of a block when it comes to choosing a colour - you would think it was just bones, right?

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting ghouls)

I'm gonna have to thank you. Taking photos with dark/black background works great! Been trying it a little after I saw you post and it is fantastic, the colours and brightness of the miniatures come out so nice, and the background fits better on this site too.

Also, great miniatures. Those zombies looks so life like, and the ghouls look really creepy, maybe a tad to white for my taste but excellent paint job.

EDIT: You deserve a rep. for this.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (painting ghouls)

Cheers, thanks for the rep and thanks for the comments. White is quite hard to photo, they don't look too bright in real life. I might at some stage wash their legs a bit, make them look a bit muddy.

RE: Soulseeker's Blog (necromancer party)

The necromancers are all dressed up for a night on the town. Pray they don't fancy you. :scared:

The latest addition to the "army" is the hot chick on the left, a Malifaux Zoraida the hag figure with a couple of plastic arms courtesy of a mantic zombie and a skaven character from IOB. As I was photographing the new necro I thought I should line up all three for a comparison shot. Three different manufacturers (Malifaux, Rackham and Enigma) but they seem to gel quite well.

I have got another figure under the brush, but it will be a few weeks probably before it's finished. Hopefully before the spring solstice, my vampires tend to disappear over the summer months. In the meantime, here's another angle so you can check out the enhancements. :perv:
