wasn't really sure if this was the place to pose this question, but it sort of falls under tactics.

how many spare models should i have for each type of unit per 1,000 points?

i can obviously work out the maximum i need for a 6 turn battle, but it seems daft to prepare for the best possible outcome so i just wondered if anyone had an opinion of a good number to aim for.

someone once told me that for zombies, 20 per 1,000 points per unit was about right

I think that's a slight overestimation for Zombies, especially for a small game. Unless of course you don't re-use dead Zombies, I usually find that 10-15 is usually alright for a game under 2,000 pts. Once you start getting too many levels of magic in there, 40 Zombies for a game that size sounds about right.
For other stuff, I haven't played at all with Bats and Wolves, but about 10 Skeletons and Ghouls usually covers it, unless, like I said, you don't re-use dead models.

I am rather glad someone asked this question before I did. LOL

I am wondering the same thing. In my 2k list I have Mannfred and a vamp with lord of the dead, starting skeles at 10 a unit, 3 units. I have no idea how many to actually paint up.

Cudos to you drax for bringing this question to light. I will be watching this one to see how the responses come in.

Depends on your play style and game plan. Play 10 games with the same list, track how many models of the unit type you are curious about per turn. That gives you 60 turns of data. Take your start count, subtract from the highest number you had and there is your magic number.

It all depends on your army build, at 2k my list has medium magic, and 3 ghould units at 10 strong each. I'm going to want to get all those units up over 20, so were talking 30-40 spare ghouls.

My old sylvanian army had approx 200 spare zombies for raising purposes, and occasionally I ran out! :|

Just get as many spares ready as you can, then if you find yourself running out, get some more. :)

Daniel.

thanks for the response guys.

at 2,000 points - this is the army i shall be using. or at least a variation on it

to be honest, i was considering last night that with Ghouls and Skeletons, once each unit hits 30 strong, i might as well just maintain it at that level rather than increase from there, and instead focus on WoD and the like - would you agree?
