My order of Spooky Scary Skeletons just shipped from GW and it should be arriving within a few days. That said, it will probably be a few weeks before I can actually get around to working on them due to a serious injury sustained at work (I was run over by a forklift).

I'm just not sure how I want to paint them up. My fiancée suggested a black and sickly (my brain replaced that with neon) green. I immediately thought of the black and green Nurgle scheme from the Path to Glory painting guide (I'll post an image when I can if that's allowed).

Just curious what everyone's thoughts were on good color schemes for Deathrattle based armies.

For clarity, what I ordered is the Start Collecting Skeleton Horde box (a mortarch, 10 skellys, and 5 black knights), thirty extra skellys, five extra knights, and both wight kings on foot.

I guess another question is how should I build them? Spears or swords for skeletons? Arkhan or Manfredd? Black Knights or Hexwraiths? The warscroll battalion for this set is okay to start with but I really want Manfredd, ahah.

Just looking for thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

@Pigbones I like the idea of black and a dirty green. You may want to check out 'The Dead Shall Walk' section and take a look at some members' armies. Borgnine has a similar scheme going on to what you've described, you can check his skeletons out HERE. Malisteen has a really cool ethereal scheme HERE that may interest you too.

@Pigbones: I can recommend having a look at Malikos' Plog too. Nothing very green but some superb black boned skeletons.

As for what to build I can only recommend you to build what you think looks cooler. If you want advise on what is better I'd suggest checking out Understanding the Underworlds.

Well, black & dark red. Purple... dark blues, grimy versions of more vibrant colours all work well..

My own skeletons have dark blue tabard and black shields with white chevron.

I like Spears for my skeletons, even when it was deemed a poor choice..

As for Mannfred or Arkhan, well I bought a 2nd Mortarch so I can happily build both..the fulfil different rolls in the army, Arkhan is more of a support for character whilst Mannfred is more combat centric... If you like Mannfred I say go with him.
As for knights, black knights are certainty a nice solid choice to go for.

Nice thing is you can use whatever colors you like. I've seen some great looking skelly's painted in bright yellows and oranges. Me, I went old school. My older stuff is the old green and red mix where the new stuff is Von Drak / Von carlstein red purple combo. Decide whether you want to go dark or light colors and go from there.
