So after picking up the VC army book yesterday and a Wight King yesterday I have decided that I will work on the army in 500 point blocks.

So the first 500 points will consist of roughly.

1 Wight King
20 Skeleton Warriors
10 Crypt Ghouls
5 Hexwraiths

Hopefully this will give me a solid foundation to start with as Ithink it will be more 'smash and grab'. With use of the different cavalry units

If you're aiming for a legal army then you must unfortunately also make room for a wizard with the lore of vampires. However, if you give no upgrades at all to anything in your entire army you will end up at 500 points on the dot if you include a necromancer. Necromancer + wight king + skeletons + ghouls + hexwraiths = 500 points.

I'd start with a necromancer or vampire, as a wight king cannot be your general. Your general must be a wizard in the lore of vampires. It's not a bad 500 points to start with but 10 crypt ghouls is very fragile.

As a side note, if you did take necromancer+Wight King+Skeletons+Ghouls+Hexwraiths then you still wouldn't have a legal list. You have a maximum of 25% of your points to spend on your heroes/lords and this takes you over by 25 points.

The exception is if you're playing undead legions rules.

I'd write your list like this:

Necromancer:
-Level 2, LoV, Dispell Scroll

Ghouls x10
-Ghast

Skeletons x21
-Champion

Hexwraiths x5

500 points legal list. Save the WK for when you have more points to spend on heroes/lords.

IMO Dispel Scroll is over kill at 500 points. I'd swap it for Book of Arkhan.

Yeah you're not incorrect. The opponents I've had just tend to go all out magic crazy so it's anauto-include for me. Book of Arkhan is better in a less magically obsessed meta.
