Unless specified otherwise (and it isn't) you should assume that it grants the unit the standard/basic Hatred special rule which gives the models the ability to re-roll misses in the first round only. :)

Since it's most effective on the first turn of combat you are best off using to on units that are most damaging in the first round, like Great Weapon Grave Guard or Black/Blood Knights when charging, as the enhanced probablility to hit means that they can cause the most damage, and hence are most likely to break the enemy on the charge.

I really, really like it on a 6 wide Black Knight charge. 6 Black Knight hits with Lances is typically 6 dead models. That's the entire front rank, or the entire flank, meaning no or few strikes back, and you win combat by 1 or 2.

Bad rolls aside, you can make a 6 man knight charge break a Rank and File unit from the side, or sometimes the front. Is that worth 35 points + a unit? I'd think so.

Another good reason why I always think that this banner should be put in your cavalry, since you always want to make sure that your cavalry break their opponents in one round of combat.

I used to have it on my Black Knights, but now generally Grave Guard accompanied by Lord (Spent bloodlines on F Lore and Red Fury). I do miss hatred every round though- especially vs things like Stegadons that just won't die in one turn!

I like to use it on bsb in a big unit of 7 wide ghouls, rerollable poison is better than people think. It may well seem like a waste of a bsb but when hitting big things they drop very quickly and people arn't expecting it from lowly ghouls, there are always looking out for them blood knights or black knights.

Ok but in 7 wide GW GG with a hacky lord and a vamp BSB with banner of Barrows is it worth it?

The plan is I annihalate around 15 enemies in first turn...

I would be inclined to take the wight king bsb with barrows banner as he himself benefits from it where the vamp bsb cannot. Also he is tougher than the vamp and more able to shrug off challenges (from the not super dooper lord level challengers)

It would be better to give the barrows banner to the units standard bearer. That way it can never be lost unless the unit is destoyed. If the BsB has it and he is killed it's gone. And it let's you make a nice killy WK with the sword of kings and still get the bonus from the banner......:thumb:

I normally field it with my Black Knights. I found it to work best as mentioned in cavalry formations as opposed to my grave guard which I dont necessarily want to get into combat.
