I just got back into WHFB after about a year or so of putting the dice down, but I have a question...
Whatever happened to the Games-Workshops summer campaigns? did they not decide to do one this year?:( I'm not saying that they were fantastic (Nemesis Crown was far from it), but i missed the idea of everyone mobilizing their troops around a Narrative Story that you had a direct impact on.
Something more like Storm of Chaos or Fall of Medusa V.
Or did they just pull the "terrible economy" card, and subsequently raise the price of their minis? o_o

Sorry if this post is a little critical, It was just one thing I looked forward to every summer...

But on the other hand, we got a beast of a new rulebook xD

There are conflicing views on this, GW's line (from Games Day smeinars) is that they take up impracticably large amounts resources, but I fear the real reason is that they have an idea of how these things turn out, and then, well, they don't, and it all congeals into a sticky mess. I love the Storm of Chaos & Eye of Terror campaign books but the campaigns themselves, while fun, never seem to resolve themselves properly, and all we are left with (more so with SoC, EoT had some rather gripping resolutions) is some naff forced fluff. Fun things happen but it does seem awfully futile. I think GW got tired of promising so much & never being able to deliver, because their own dictates are not played out by the peeps with the toys.

I think its unfortunate that Games-Workshop hasn't run one of these in a long time. Despite what others think, I really enjoy the global campaings and the feeling that I am actually playing for a purpose, not just playing. Not to mention the fact that I have a chance to influence the fluff of the game, which is awesome!

I never played in any of the campaigns, but always liked the cool fluff, massive battle reports, scenarios and models that came with them.

Massive sieges, battles, and wars are waged all over the world.
Each race has it's own agenda against another.
Vampire Counts remain out of sight until massive sieges break out and we carve a bloody swathe through the Empire on the road to Altdorf where we will then recover the body of Vlad and eventually bring him back.
Not as much resistance is faced this time around because of the world-wide chaos.

It is discovered that Mannfred is the one responible for gathering the Vampires and their legions.
He only wishes to resurrect Vlad in order to discover the location of a lost artifact.
Massive battle between Vlad and Mannfred ensues. Because of the enormous respect/fear of Vlad, many of the other Vampires come to his side.
Vlad defeats Mannfred in a final battle between the two and proceeds to make a mockery of him to set an example for all to see.
Vlad finally completes his task of becoming Emperor and begins his reign.

I can always hope. xD

Well they went with the Gw budget cuts aparently, that's what I heard on the grape vine, and i'm at GWHQ so pretty near the top :)

why would the Vampire narritive have to be Von Carstine theres other stuff that could happen Like aborash returning or the Strigori getting their thumbs out of their asses and getting some payback.

There is always a purpose to further expand the realm of the Vampire Counts! Mwuhaha! :vampire3:

....Anyway, I must agree there hasn't been a big campaign in a while.....what was the result of the Nemesis Crown, anyway? Did a race actually get the item available for their army?

Yes, influecing fluff is cool, but I always hear of people just logging endless victories for their race without playing by having multiple accounts and e-mail addresses.... I even heard of a whole team of people devoted to making Skaven win by cheating the internet. o_o

I'd like to see VC get some uber-campaign item... the Elixir of Life, anyone? xD

Dwarves won and Thorgrim locked it away to be forgotten

Grimgors army ran away on him again

Brettonian players complained about the Brettonians expanding into the Empire so instead Leoncour was just fulfilling a oath to Karl Franz

Doh! Epic fail Dwarves. No awesome magic item for you then! I just remember the Dark Elf motive for the campaign was "Kill a few people, get some slaves, then pop off home and try and invade Ulthuan AGAIN." xD

The great thing is how they both think they are controlling each other. Morathi thinks she's the Queen and Mistress of the Druchii, influencing Malekith to get what she wants, and Malekith is the King and thinks Morathi is a tool and advisor to control the religion and magic. It's probably the oddest relationship in the Warhammer world. (Not to mention the fact that they love each other...like, beyond mother-and-son love.) *Shivers*

if im honest id rather see another 40k campaign. even tho eye of teror my force did nothing necrons... lol why were they there? lol fail me thinks so.

but the last fantacy game my empire went to war against Arcaon :) and survived :cool:with flying colours i had like 14 wins 2 lost and 6 draws lol. thinking my attempts of fighting of chaos giants and hell cannons meant any thing

Yeah, that's just terrible :( I really cared for the first few weeks of the Campaign and to hear that totally dropped my morale. I wish there was some better way to have them log the battles without having it getting spammed by multiple e-mail adress.

They could start tracking IP Adresses, but that just gets weird.

I remember back on the old CN that we had a whole section dedicated to the background of the campaign, what we were going to say in our battle reports in order to really push the story forward, (Not to mention our anger with Mannfred somehow dying and then re-appearing magicly in our Army Book)

I had been one of the Officers of that whole thing and frankly it was awesome. To feel like I was actually influencing the background of the Warhammer World... ;)

-Reminiscing End-

I heard Empire was doing one this summer as they do every summer. Maybe we could ask to join in next year? Do some re-enacting of Altdorf or some stuff xD

To quote Nikolaj from the Random Quotes:

The advertising was more impressive than the campaign...

And indeed, these campaigns have always been some sort of disappointment. They should search for something better to do. Facts are that players usually turn the results into a big win of the evil-doers anyhow, so the good guys would be destroyed.

We all know GW favours a good ending. So while Empire would have been destroyed, the Dwarfs annihilated, the forests of Athel Loren burning down, Lizardmen kicked in the ground by Chaos and the High Elves destroyed by the Dark Elves, the hand of God *kuch* GW *kuch* comes to the rescue.

And so all the creatures of Warhammer world think that Chaos is the almighty but can be defeated by courage. But we all know better.... ;)

Of course they favour a good ending. If evil wins, then players lose their races. If good wins, the evil is held at bay and people still have motivation for their armies to fight.

That sounds very fluffy to me. When did the skaven do anything honestly?

I like the campaigns as they introduce some fresh fluff which is always good. I would love in this edition if things were advanced, even just a little. Things like the Dwarves getting some of their holds back, VC actually getting a decent amount of land to rule over rather than some backwater in the Empire etc.

The campaigns are fun in some ways, but they always seem to mess up with GW fiddling the results and/or players cheating.

They could limit the results to "confirmed kills" reported by tournament organizers and gaming outlet reps who could act as sanctioned refs.
They could also split up the campaign into sections, where victory isn't total. This would allow them to influence the balance of power in the interim and use fluff to justify certain buffs to factions in compliance with their vision of the story line.
War is Eternal...afterall.
