RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

didnt manage the pants thing yet. did work on the yellow. its quite bright and a bit different colour then my armyscheme colours (but pretty similar to my liche priestess) so it sets of the characters quite nicely in a unit.
here you go.
aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_IMGP1998.webp

after taking the pics i noticed his head has a yellow jaw/teeth thing which needs fixing. but its a wip shot, so i will get to it sometime

cc always welcome

RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

hmmm how about a little update on the bone giant?
aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_bonegianttorsoarmorwip.webp

sooooo.. there he is. for the most part of him.
Sorry for the quality as its taken with my mobile phone (parents are on vacation and took the cam with them)

But, take a look and see. what still needs to be done;
- teeth
- left arm + hand + ... shield? just a hand?
- giant mace + hand on his right arm
- basing

I think the armor is pretty much done like this.
He is still going to get the large sun emblem on his chest/belly *where there isnt any chainmail at the moment. But the GS is still soft so it needs to cure for a bit before i can go further.

Other progress without pics
- i made an iconbearer!!!! he looks awesome
- i made a floppy hat for the tomb king from the previous post to resemble my 2nd TK with wizarding hat.
- Did some small painting on the last 11 bowmen for a total of 40. still need to finish them though.

thats all for today

C&C always welcome. please some input on the arm that still needs to be done for the BG.

RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

He has a proportion issue,I think you need to narrow his hips in relation to his shoulder as masculine bone structure is more like a V-shape,or inverted triangle.

RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

well,... looking at pictures/schematics of bones, i dont think shoulders are that much wider than hips. besides that, he is still missing an arm so he will look wider at his shoulders when finished.
i was more concerned about the head being too small actually :P

as for the hips, they dont lie, and i was not going to change them count... im sorry. but im kind of 'finishing him quick' before he becomes some piece of real estate in my room

and yes,...
i made some pics....
iconbearer

RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

Don't get me wrong, you did a really good job on him...I suppose he just looks very robust for a skeleton, but I imagine that the bone structure of giants is naturally blocky. I really like the look of that infinity banner.

RE: Sons of the sun, a Tomb Kings Plog

These guys are looking soooo cool. I like the conversions on these models, especially the helmet on that Icon Bearer!
That banner looks ace, by the way!

Thanks for the positive comments!

So,
I subscribed to Red Army's tale of painters challange. The stuff i would need to buy, build and paint is the following;

3 tomb princes or kings
3 (high) liche priests
1 BSB guy
3 necrotects (the new hero thing)

9 chariots
40 skeleton bowmen
a unit of skeletons with either spears or hw/shields. number yet to playtest
15 horsemen archers

3 carrions
(DONE) 2 tomb scoprions
30 tomb guards
1 tomb swarm

1 casket of souls
1 bonegiant necrolith collossus
1 hyrotitan
1 screa,ing skull catapult

As you can see, only 1 unit is done... the 2 scorps. all the other stuff isnt done. It might be half painted or something, or (like my archers) 30 of the 40 may be finished... but i can only say its done when its truly done :P

Here is an armywide shot to show you how the progress is going thus far. You can figure out yourselves whats on the plate i guess...

also, i mentioned to work on some scenery for my desert table. Currently working on a obelisk kind of thing, a rocky feature with treasure here and there and i bought this egyptian statue which would look nice on the table if painted in the right colours.

So, Tale of painters has started... now, to head onto the endless unmoulding....

As i am thinking of my theme and models to buy i came acros the high elves phoenix guards.
m1360317a_99120210015_HEPhoenixGuard1_873x627.jpg

Would they pass as tomb guards with halberds?
i would close their helmets and make them something in the style of chaos warriors.
The elven signs will get worked around.

I think they could fit pretty well. But i dont know about height comparison between skellies and elven warrior. anyone know about this?

there are a lot of things that can be easily tomb-king-a-fied with this unit. and i like the helmets and cloaks...

Also, this is a plastic kit so it makes converting a heck of a lot easier.

please share any experience on the size of these models and/or if you think this could work...

I know it might be a lot of hard work, but couldnt you scrape out the heads from the helmets and stick in some skeleton head bits? would look totally awesome I could imagine :)

well, that can be done if i have the right drill that is :P
and it would be a serious option i'd consider if i go trough with this.

The big question however stays the same, how do they compare to normal 'bow' skeletons?

Looking at the armor overal its not very egyptian themed, but the parts on their upper legs (the sort of wing-things) would look pretty cool if painted in the armycolours.
as wel as the helmets...

is there anyone who can get me some camparison material? preferably a phoenix guard next to a skeleton?

I know that the average elf is the same size as a vc skeleton. I hope that gives you a decent size comparison.
But why not buy the new tomb guard? The look awesome!

I like the shiny appearance of the high elves. and they look kind of egyptian when i imagine them in the yellow/red colorscheme.
The new tomb guards do look nice... but idno, i sort off always disliked using an entire army of models GW brings out. so, these guys are going to be 30 strong. its te smallest unit i would like to 'custom build' next to some monster...
I hope you guys catch my drift

Hopefully i can buy a single (or a small amount) of phoenix guard to fool around with.
30+ euro's for 10 isnt to be fooled with! and im not planning on starting high elves...

hmmm,.... internetz, BEWARE!

thanks for the size comparison

Yellow, like white, is a hard color to paint.

When I do yellow, I do one of two things. I either lay down a basecoat of skull white and layer the yellow over that (sunburst is my preferred yellow, but any other yellow works.) The other way I do yellow is just a straight coat of Iyanden darksun with mud in the deeper recesses.

I don't normally do a wash over my yellow, as I feel it dilutes the coloring...but I think you do? Does that change the color all that much?

well, i apply a base of tausept ochre then (depending on the kind of surface)
give highlights with a mix opgolden yellow/tausept oche about 8:1
after that wash them very lightly with a watered down bestial brown.

or first wash then highlight. it depends.

I find that the bestial brown works nice with the tausept ochre. And it isnt as shiny as a devlan mud wash for instance.

I dont think it delutes that much, depending on how thick your wash is. also, the TK being ancient skeletons, i think its oke for them to look a bit dirty. It would be awkward to see 100% clean yellow on some old dusty bones. It also brings together the model with the brown bone im using.

Hopefully, i will get some pics up by wednesday.
Ive finished my tomb prince and did some painting on my BSB-herald

well,... i ended up buying 30 tomb guard. as mentioned on the organ thread i had build a lot of stuff. I am here to update some of this, to show im working on stuff. However, its not going according to the pace i was imagining it would go...

anyhow, here are some pics to show progress.
aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_DSC03179.webp

my extra light horsemen. I now have enough for 11 (including a champion)

aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_DSC03177.webp

Here is some egyptian scenery! hope you like it. This will be for the desert table i have planned! (i dont think i have shared this picture with you yet...)
since i have taken it, i have made 2 building to accompany them... they look nice as wel me thinks.

aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_DSC03182.webp

my WIP BSB and finally finished tomb prince/king. im pretty satisfied with him (and his weapon)

aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v143_loempiaketzer_Warhammer_20Tomb_20Kings_DSC03186.webp

and here are 2 small shots to let you see some work on the chariots (the carts are nearly done) and some other stuff had been touched in the meantime...

so, thats it for the meantime. I hope i get to painting today or otherwise tomorrow as i have a day off! :D HURRAY!!!

Nice terrain pieces, will that black one get painted or does it stay black?

The chariots look great, the yellow and bone look really good. It´s always nice to see a horde like this.

Thanks all for the encouraging words! After reading this, im even more stoked on getting another tomb king done and i have even started on my sphinx!
I will hopefully get some update posts even tonight, otherwise tomorrow,... i have 'dead grassed' all my units that were done. making the bases a lot more intresting. Also, i have experienced with some scenery pieces. I will defeneatly show them off pretty soon as i am in kind of a scenery mood at the moment.
For some reason i just don feel like painting 30+ the same guys,... and then it gets REALLY sloppy when i do! :silent:

o well,... guess i will stick to the fun stuff and hopefully, sometime i will get to those tomb guards! (and last bits of the chariots... the crew have allmost crumbled to dust by now! :P they are still in their base colours... for the past year or so... i really need to finifsh those bastards!

so much to paint.,... so little time...

So, here are my scenery things i have been working on.
Things i would really like comments on are the wall of the broken house,
they are made out of cardboard. The side is then filled up with wall/wood filler (dont know the english word) Its very fast and decent looking, for broken down buildings.
On the other thing i would like comments are the higher gras things... made out of brush. im not totally convinced by then, but its a nice adon i guess,.. to use sparingly

and i wanted to share this, since i like my character robes to look like this. I finally got it down the way i want (since the tomb prince/king from last update...)

so,... please comment!!! i hope this is inspiring for the other threads or something

Have to agree with Santa. The yellow has been done really well. Not the easiest colour and the depth of shading really adds, umm, depth to it. The sort of harsh shadow you would get in very strong sunlight, so it's perfect for your army theme.

Scenery is often over looked and I'll admit to being a bit sceptical when I saw yours unpainted, but another solid paint scheme and some decent basing has removed any doubt I may have had. Again, some really nice work.

Oh, and great chariots!

im sorry, i had to share my latest building! then i got photohappy and took some random pics with some models here and there. i also started a new project. which will be awesome i hope! :P

anyways, the pics speak for themselves! I have tried to get something working even for 40K
hence the ladder and the holes in the wall. should be good games using something like that.

my latest addition!
