Interesting, but the only problem is with cloning that the clone tends to not live that long and will get a myriad of health issues Ie) Dolly

Ya know, I'll chime in here a bit!

I'm in complete agreement here. It's shameful the way that humans run the world, I mean destroying eco systems and causing animals to go extinct because they want more money. Quite frankly Manatees are my favorite animal. They're hilarious and fantastic, and endangered. They aren't endangered so much because we all take crappy care of the world (which we do) but they constantly get hit by boats. We want to go have a whole bunch of fun on speed boats and what not and don't realize the harm that it is doing to the animals that live in the water. I mean, they usually can save the sea cows once they've been hit now that they know that that is the issue but sometimes it's just to late, or they've lost a fin and won't be able to survive in the wild anymore, and now they're stuck in captivity not for human enjoyment but because they just won't be able to survive otherwise. All because we want to go boating.

I'm done!

It is a shame about extinct animals, but animals go extinct without human involvement too, look at dinos for example. Animals will go extinct without humans doing anything, due to climate changes etc.

I also think it is not right to elevate animals to human level, they are not humans so while it IS sad that animals are going extinct due to humans, it is much much worse when humans are murdered and that problem should be dealt with first and foremost.

Thankfully, humanity is learning how to resurrect species so maybe we will see the dodo walking the Earth again.

Still, it's just a thought, idea so don't crucify me for it but maybe some animals are meant to become extinct, for example to let other species develop and take their place? The world is changing after all, animals are still evolving so why shouldn't some species be replaced by others, just like it would happen normally? After all, humanity IS a part of nature (though it doesn't look like it) so maybe this was meant to be.

Again, that was just a thought, I am not pro animal cruelty, however in the wild animals DO die, that is the way of nature so for me animal deaths are not an evil thing, though extinction is sad.

This could be getting into a religious idea also. I mean, it's 6 in one hand half dozen in the other. Some creature die off to make room for other creatures to thrive. It's sad in our eyes but who knows, it may lead to better things that we just don't see!! I dunno, that's the future and I am not a fortune teller lol.

I dunno, Again, gonna get a touch theoretical here. It is theorized that dinosours actually still live! I know, "What you talkin 'bout Corien!?!" but bear with me. I grew up in a christian school so I know quite a bit about the bible. The big ole flood (which from archeology seems to have happened) killed off everything except for what was on the boat right? Well how did the flood happen? It is believed that it never rained before the flood happened. The atmosphere was completely different because instead of just the ozone there was actually a barrier of water that was just kinda chilling in the upper most part of the atmosphere. This allowed humans to live till about 900 years old. Now this idea leads to the thought that if humans lived longer then everything else did too! What is the one type of creature on earth that does not stop growing throughout their entire life? Lizards. Now, hear me out here, what if dinosours are on earth right now, but the atmosphere was changed so drastically that they cannot grow the same or live long enough to grow to the size that they should be?

Sorry for the block of text. I just wanted to make sure that I actually explained what I was talking about instead of just Blah Blah Blah.

Back to the topic at hand! lets get that genentic research going! I want to see jurassic park happen in my life time!

Oh yeah :) from biology we know that due to the atmosphere at the time creatures generally used to be larger. It is due to their circulation and how different pressures allow for a more efficient circulation around the body so larger creatures (even the bugs, centipedes and dragonflies used to be much larger).

Sorry that is really badly explained but I'm a physicist and not a biologist.

CALLING ON ALL BIOLOGISTS ON CN TO EXPLAIN THE ABOVE A BIT BETTER BECAUSE MY BIOLOGY SUCKS!!!!

The halflife of a dna molecule is considerably less than the 65+ million years non avian dinosaurs have been gone. Zero chance of Jurassic park happening unfortunately. But avian dinosaurs (birds) are still around, so there's that at least.

Well you certainly do sound pro-animal cruelty. Also this is a classic case of the arrogance of humans. The belief that other animals are not on our level, that they are somehow inferior to us because they can't speak and because they look different to us, is totally false. The belief that humans are somehow special and unique amongst animals is totally baseless and false. You think that because we've been around for what... 150,000 years or something, and because we build houses and cities and invent things and produce art that we are special? Many of the things we do can be seen in other species - birds build nests, we build houses.

Not only that, there are many things other animals can do that we could never hope to do without machines. Cats can run faster, jump higher, see more clearly, hear more clearly, smell more clearly than any human. Many animals are physically much stronger than even the strongest humans, and those animals usually come equipped with talons, claws or powerful jaws. Yet humans think that just because we have large brains that makes us superior to these other species, that because a cow is docile it is stupid, that because a pig rolls around in mud it is filthy and disgusting and greedy, that a chicken is nothing but a resource like iron or wood rather than a living, breathing entity with a complex nervous system just like ours.

What good have humans done for the world anyway? If we were truly special and great, don't you think that instead of being complete arrogant dicks we would be protecting other species and each other? Instead, like the apes we are, we fight over petty territorial disputes, resources, greed and power. So much for the humanity - we are no better than the animals you condemn to death on a daily basis.

Also the dinosaurs were around for millions of years... humans have only been around for about 150,000 - 200,000 years or something, and only 10,000 years of having civilisation. The rate at which we consume resources now is unprecedented, as is the population. 7 billion of us... it's insane. There are simply too many of us, yet instead of blaming ourselves most people blame other species, because the arrogant nature of humanity, born from the survival instinct and amplified by our aberrant intelligence, refuses to accept that they are the culprits for countless ethical wrongdoings.

There is no such thing as "what was meant to be". Everything hinges on the moment, on the now. Everything else is either memory or non-existent. This is a thing that animals understand better than a lot of humans, who get caught up in the past and the future rather than existing purely in the present which is all that exists. Life is mindless in its purest form, an unconscious chemical structure. Humans are an aberration who glorify themselves, seeing themselves as amazing, exceptional, superior etc. etc. There is no such thing as fate, no such thing as destiny. Humans, though aberrant in their level of intellect, are the only species capable of choosing whether to be savage barbarians or be noble protectors of life, yet most of us choose the former because it's "easy", and because they've been indoctrinated by generations of slavery of animals and humans to treat animals as slaves, as property.

But when you look at the way humans treat each other, it's no wonder they treat other animals with such cruelty and callousness. The vaunted, so-called "ascended species" the so-called "Children of God" the self-ascribed Lords of the Earth. The majority of us are callous, greedy, selfish overlords who seek nothing but slavery and death for each other and other species. Quite like the Vampire Counts actually.

It's this attitude that makes humans attack other species like the Tasmanian Tiger and drive them to extinction. They move somewhere, ascribe meaning to the place and define it as THEIR home and THEIR land, just like chimps, and attack, kill and enslave other species that live in the area that have been there much longer than them. Remember, the Tiger only attacked human-enslaved animals because the humans put them there for them to attack, the Tiger was only acting on its natural instincts.

I really am quite sick of people saying that humans are somehow better than other animals, because it's just not true.

I know none of you will agree with me, that none of you care, but I say this anyway because I fervently know that this is the truth. All I had to do was open my eyes and look around me.

A very insightful post Dreamer. I can understand the point you are making, certainly this seems something you are passionate about.

Just a bit of advice, the tone can come across as a tad aggressive which may put people off reading. It is a pity as I feel you are making some excellent points and I would recommend members to read your last post.

If you can just bear your tone in mind I am sure many others would be more receptive. Also, if you do want to discuss humanities place on earth why not start a thread on it, I would be interested to see the forums views. However it probably be a good idea to put it in the Beast Within section.

Now I don't want to be "that guy", but decay is still random, so there's not technically "zero" chance of finding a dna molecule... but if we did we'd have to be pretty damn quick looking at it! xD

Dreamer, I believe humans are not animals, that we are something else. Animals kill other animals yes? Animals do not think about the extinction of a species, the just "live for the moment" right? Just like you are implying we should live. Living for the moment means not looking at the consequences, not looking into the future or the past. It is what animals do, they satisfy their base desires.

To be able to suppress out primal desires is what makes humans different from animals, to stop ourselves doing something even if we want to. You are simply looking at the body of something and comparing. Yes our body is like that of an animal. You are not considering the mind which is a fact that humans have many many times more advanced than the smartest animal.

In short, we have control over animals and we could IN THEORY wipe them out in an instant. They could not do the same to us. That is pure fact. So we do control animals and therefore are not animals ourselves.
Still like DoN said, this is not the thread for it, I'll create a thread later on (if I remember) about if humanity is a species of animal or not, I suggest we stop going off topic on this thread.

DoN : sorry, that went horribly off topic xD but it seems to be a rich topic so I might create a thread later on, remind me if I forget.

Back on topic, I think that maybe we should restrain ourselves from releasing the cloned species into the wild, cloning has never been extremely successful and it might have a negative impact on other species in the wild.

Edit: Thread about humanity has been created, called "Are humans animals?" in the beast within forum.

Aren: Cloning isn't successful because we haven't had a chance to master it yet! I mean medicine wasn't super successful at first but we have gotten better and better and getting closer and closer to being able to cure uncurable diseases. I say this because the further we get in technology the closer we get to being able to do the impossible. I mean, yes there may be damages to the ecosystem by adding new (or really old) species, but this could also be a really good thing to! Who knows! All I know is that I'm right there wanting to see a wooly mammoth some day! those things are super cool!

@#!$% That is only ugly dog animal o - o

Aren I am curious! I thought religion is like super duber anti cloning?
