Hi guys, I was wondering of the competativeness of a list that uses a ghoul king on terrorgheist and 2 additional terrorgheists. The list would have to be 2400pts minimum as a reasonably equipped ghoul king with TG will cost 600pts minimum (with a standard sword of bloodshed, red fury, dragonbane gem etc etc).

The list I had in mind was the 3 TGs, a vamp on hellsteed to use almost as a throw away character, for smashing smaller units and such, a unit of 10 black knights, 2 units of 3 vargheists and then filling the core with some 30 ghouls, 2 units of 20 zombies with banners (for blood and glory) and a few units of hounds. Theres enough points for a couple of necromancers in there too...

Could an army like that work, or does anyone have any thoughts on how to make the 3 terrorgheists work? My only experience of huge based monsters in 8th is the ogre ones, which are so slow compared to TGs that I think the TGs could get into fights quick enough to give them a break from shooting.

Has anyone tried a list like this?

I've been wanting to run this set-up myself. The idea of having three Terrorgheists and a Ghoul King with Skabscath, sweeping up a flank seems like a lot of fun to me  When I built my list I couldn't fit it into an army any smaller than 3000 points. The bulk of the army will be shuffling a measly 4" so you need it to stay functional. What you've been looking at sounds similar to my list so I'll post it here (best link it actually)... https://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-3kpts-The-Three-Terrorgheist-Army

Hope it gives you some ideas!

I'm not convinced by it. Putting a bullseye on your lord by putting him on a monster, when his primary (and against non-flaming only) defense is a 5++? Nope. Even if you have backup casters to pick up for him, those gheists aren't going to like even one round of crumbling. Even if they aren't killed, their screaming will be considerably hampered.

It's cool and stylalish, I think it would be a neat army to run anyway. I'd give the lord skabscrath instead of the sword of bloodshed, just for that one more scream. But in a competitive environment? I don't think it's a good idea.

What about:

Ghoul King on Terrorgeist

Power: Curse of the Revenant, Aura of Dark Majesty, Summon Creatures of the Night

Items: Potion of Healing, DragonBane Gem, (Magic Sword of some kind)

Now, your Ghoul King has 4 wounds. With randomizing between mount and rider, there is a good chance the Ghoul King will survive with 4 wounds in 1 round. Non-flaming spears and Non-Flaming Cannonballs aside.

Start of your turn (if needed) use the potion. By round 2, your Ghoul King and the other 2 Terrorgeists should be in combat with something, thus reducing shots coming against you. Picking your targets wisely, and the Ghoul King should live and cause considerable damage and troubles to your opponent. Especially, if he spends a round focusing trying to shoot your ghoul king only to have you replenish his wounds with a potion.

Depends on what you meet on the field. I would like to see the look on my opponents face as he looked down at three big dragon'ish monsters. Just hope there's not to many warmachines on the other side...

At some point i'm gonna try it as well, but i still have a lot of different armies to try out first. A would love to hear if you try it out cyantific or any of you others for that sake...

Just had a game against WEs. He brought 2 treemen and 1 treeman ancient, as his general. I only had one TG, but he swooped around singing songs of love to the tree men. All three treemen went nighty night after one verse. Having 2 more, plus maybe the sword singing a chorus, would be pretty over the top, in a fun way. Unfortunately the first dwarf gunline you run into... well there won't be enough gory bits left to put a zombie together.

use crypt horrors as meat shields on setup move everybody before the general and your golden for the first two rounds

I don't think he means as cover per se, just as literal cannon fodder as the cannon would need to kill a crypt field completely before passing through to the terrorgheist, or to another crypt fiend

Give the ghoulking skabscrath so that he can scream too (it's not awful in a punchup either), then give him the vampy power of -1ld to enemies for benefit to his and his mounts scream.

Any good?

I'd do this, along with giving the GK Curse of the Revenant. You now have FOUR (yes, FOUR!) screamers in your army, putting out a real Fusrodah each turn.

Enemy monsters, knights, heck even elite armoured units... if you send four screamers at them, then box them in combat, they'd be utterly screwed.

Epic combo, just hope that at least one of the buggers reaches your opponent. xD

i personally have tried this tactic
WoC i found are the best to use it against. not statistically, as that would proberly be using it against other undead...

nowt better than saying your armour means nothing to me you khornate scum!! 3x terrorgheist burps later, and then a slightly lesser vampire belch and unit is vapourised unless you roll bad on all of them

i did also haev the luxery of using this tactic in a storm of chaos game. even with those great ward saves they just fall of fulcrums

Except you do not get cover from crypt horrors due to being a large target

Large targets would get cover from CHs (providing there is enough concealment) as well as their cannon ball stopping ability. Large targets don't get cover from 'obstacles', covered on PG. 122 of the little rulebook.

I would go with others suggestions of going for a fun army with them with the scream sword too. Randomising won't save you from a cannonball which hits both mount and rider. And a healing pot is a start of turn use and a cannon could easily kill you outright at d6 wounds on each.

It's risky, but it sounds like a blast. If I had the models I'd be giving it a whirl in friendly games.

I should be fun vs Wood elves, Warriors of chaos, Beastmen, Vampires & Bretonnians... atleast those...
vs Dwarfs & Empire it could end very badly for us... Then agains you never know with cannons...

I just think it would be very un-fun for the other player... or us if we fight cannons and loose it all very fast.

Might try it once but I would make it clear that I would be bringing something sneaky or atleast something that you wont see normally... hint hint... I hate it myself when a game is over in 2 turns... (maybe not that much in tournaments...)
