@Skittelz1981 I had no idea that had that are some kind of thought enforcer. Glad to see we've cleared that.

I'm probably just as tired of reading posts just as yours. Generally, if you had really been paying attention I rarely even mention AoS.

Like many people who want to see a warhammer we all enjoy carry on in some form, many seem to hold the view the 9th age is changing many things that don't need changing. So ranting aside, if many people feel this way. Be that 10, 20 or 30% then it won't actually keep warhammer alive, it will simply fracture what's left of the community.

Whole lot of negativity flying about at the moment, some guy getting annoyed with it on the internet isn't going to change that.

Age of sigmar is not warhammer fantasy. GW discontinued warhammer fantasy and released a new game called AoS that's fluff was loosely based on the fluff from warhammer fantasy. If age of sigmar is WHFB it would be called WHFB 9th edition or WHFB: Age of Sigmar but its not. They are two distinct games that happen to have a connection fluff-wise.

Disclaimer: havnt read all the rules, and I am a big fan of the work these guys put into it,
but more than once has I cringed by some concepts and names...I really think they need a critical mind on the team.

Lore of Light:
2: Battle Tactics
This is not magic the gathering :P what wizard would name a spell that? :D
Call it "Bastet's Flash of Resolve" or something of the sort

Lore of Life
1: Master of Stone
What does stone have to do with life?
If "flesh to stone" is the argument, then I think their idea of that is different than mine.
It doesn't literally make the flesh to stone...it just empowers it with life-force so that it hardens to that amount.
Stone is not a living thing, so why exchange it with "Awakening the woods" which makes tons of more sense?

I also find that the writers have removed some important features from some of the lores.
I for one think that removing "Enfeebling foe" and making the lore of shadow focus more on movement is a MAJOR mistake....but we will see how it plays out.

Having read the new balancing rules and lore rewrites, I must say that I am substantially disenchanted with the design philosophy on display here. It is very clearly written with specifically the ETC meta in mind, and has none of that cross-appeal that WHFB always provided as a sort of "base game."

I say this substantially in response to the changes to the Vampires and TK forces. TK got slight buffs in the form of marching, removing the nehekhara tax, and tweaking nehek casting values. Plus changes to the BRB killing blow rules. However they also NERFED various aspects of the lore (no boosted Desiccation, no Scroll of Mighty Incantations, no 5+ killing blow from Cursed Blades).

Vampires similarly got the nerfbat. Limited to one tbat. Hexwraiths moved to rare. Hero banshees/cairn wraiths removed. Curse of Years can no longer target a unit in combat. Just....fucking stupid.

I can't say I'm overly keen on the changes. I don't honestly think the hero banshees or wraiths is a massive deal as the wall of etherals in a unit wasn't exactly fun. The problem with many of the army changes is that they are quick fixes that don't really fix anything. With Hexwraiths, if you want to move them to Rare then they should probably be mounted Wraiths Stat's wise (and Wraiths should be special). I hadn't noticed the changes to curse of years, that's very annoying and I know it was one of the few ways outside of screaming and blender lords I could deal with elite combat armies.

I have an idea for a ruleset, when I get a change I'll post something up.

Sorry not sure if anyone posted this but Furion is also working on a "9th ed". So far, IMO, it looks better than the Swedes' 9th age. Seems like he is working to make more army builds viable rather than just nerfing the OP stuff.

It's ok, however certain unit's require more than just points tweaks to be worth taking, chosen are a prime example of this due to overlapping roles with core troops.

and that is what Furion is doing. He doesn't just "fix" points but also adjusts mechanics and slots where he deems necessary. He is significantly faster than the Swedes too and is open to suggestions which he will consider.

Furion's efforts are certainly interesting. Core black knights? Yes please! Big fan of the point decrease on my favourite unit, vargheists, as well. Black Coach and Varghulf also become quite viable at the lower point threshold, while a 270 point terrorgheist really makes you consider other options (I'd probably still take one).

Spirit hosts as MI, and with the wound regeneration in exchange for the point bump, is also a very interesting change. Makes big units of them viable (which they aren't before). And 70 points for one is still pretty decent.

Core BK and GG makes zombies and skeletons pretty irrelevant, though. If they're to maintain their role I think they would need a points decrease. 4 point skeletons and 2.5 point zombies, I would say.

I looked at the v2 Beastmen book. There's a lot of good stuff in there but I need to ask:
What is up with the Sons of Ghorros rule?

Had a look what Furion is doing. It looks well made. Personally I prefer 9th Age's approach though. The higher focus on creating a solid ruleset, with less ambiguous rules, appeals to me. The way they have classified the spells is just beautiful if you ask me.

@Pirate Robot Ninja of Death: Please note that the balance document is only a temporary fix while they work through the armybooks. The changes there are not guaranteed to stay.

@Seneschal: That rule is quite strangely written indeed o.o For some reason you cannot have centigors as core if there are minotaurs in your army. No idea about why that is.

In other news. Today I will be playing a game of 9th Age. Will also try to write up a report on it to show you how it went.

I hope this is going to be an international endeavor from people all over the world and not just a "Swedes" thing.

I eagerly wait for this.

Just skimmed 9th Age's balancing document. It's stupid. The game should be making more builds viable, no nullify.

Can you elaborate? I haven't given it much of a read since I'm at work.

Alright, I had that game. Here is the report.

@Henning: Again, don't read too much into the Balance document, it is only temporary.

@HERO: The group behind it is the SWE comp guys and the ETC guys, along with a few other from around the world if I understand correctly. I think it is safe to that this will not just be a 'Swedes' thing.

Furion's ruleset made some strange changes. I get the small price raise on the mortis engine but the BT is 60pts. 60pts. I know a guy who wouldn't take it if it was free and it's now 60pts. Anyways I feel he should have made vlad better instead of slashing his points. Aura of dark majesty doubled in points. A power only occasionally taken and doubled in points? I feel this guy played a lot of scream lists because he seemed to bring the nerf bat down hard on anything cream related.

9th Age has made an announcement about the Beta release! It will most likely be out before the 11th of September.

They have also made a formal presentation of the crew working on the project, so you can get some understanding of their background.
