Hello I'm new here, I'm 13 years old and just started painting Warhammer with my dad. This is my first unit of skeletons made from left over bits my dad didn't use. I gave them a light blue paint, because I imagine these skeletons still glowing with energy having just been raised from their graves

That's a good start to your Warhammer hobby! The blue skeletons are a really good idea, they work very nicely with the snowy bases. I think extending this into a bigger regiment, and then carrying on the cold, blue theme with some frozen zombies, white wolves and so on would be interesting. Different from all the black and red vampire armies (such as mine).

You need to see what other models you can acquire while your dad has his back turned! He doesn't really need all of them! :innocent:

LOL yeah it was sand, but after thinking about it, I am going to make the base into a snow base. That way I can merge my army with my dads army (The Night King's White Walker army) when ever needed. They will be two separate armies that can come together if we need a big army. That way my dad will be sure to share more of his models with me lol ;)

@Dark Prince I started Warhammer after my dad got into it, that was 20 years ago! My first skeletons were nowhere near as good as these though... they're awesome.

Not many people go for the glowing-with-necrotic-energy look on their core, but you've pulled it off very well.

If I were you I might spread out the unit fillers you've made so that the unit looks like a shambling block of skellies instead of being scarcely populated at the back.

Great work and keep those pics coming!

I don't think if I've seen here blue skeletons, they are very cool :) They look quite nice on the white sand, I don't know how to name this effect, but I like it!

Also, for a first unit, that's a very good result  I much wonder how a bigger army with such color scheme would look like.

Dark energy flows from the Necromancers hands into the ground, The dead rise from their graves glowing with the Necromancers dark energy. They died on this battlefield long ago, now all they know is anger and hatred of the living.

They run through the freezing night, their bones creaking, their teeth shattering, and their armour clanking. They never tire they never sleep for they are dead. Tonight the Dark Prince has sent them out to hunt the living, to locate their army, and bring back this information. They know the men are near they can smell their blood and camp fires. They hasten their pace across snow covered land, Tonight the Night Runners will have first blood.

My dad got me a Necromancer, so I decided to put him on a base with some dead rising up to make the most of the energy he has shooting into the ground. I decided to change the base for my skeletons and make them a light infantry/recon unit. I also wanted to make my army match with my dads so that we can use them together in games. I have a big reveal coming soon, been working on some Grave Guard!!! :)

The Dark Prince finds a dead legion of Chaos Warriors, that he raises from their slumber to serve him as his personal body guard. This elite unit of undead warriors he names The Grave Guard.

This was a fun project that me and my dad worked on together ( Thank god we worked as a team, it would have taken forever to paint all of them alone.) My dad found a bunch of cheap Chaos Warriors on Ebay, and with some simple head swaps, and a tomb from a old Hero Quest game, We managed to build a grave guard that I think looks very powerful and regimental. I love how they look next to my dads unit of shambling Skeletons, I think they sort of look like Undead Crows with their fur and black cloaks, and with the Necromancer standing behind them you get a real since of why the Grave Guard are Glowing blue :)

You know, when I started painting at 14 I only used like two, maybe three, colours, and they were completely flat. These are so much more amazing, I assume you've been watching your dad for a while now? Or perhaps are simply into artistic things besides this?

Quite well, the Grave Guard are certainly a stellar reveal. I hope the hobby can keep your interest, you can certainly do interesting things with it. :ghost:

Also, A+ unit fillers. Probably my favorite part of modeling units. I love putting those little "dioramas" into units to make them more unique and provide a larger canvas for ideas.

Thanks for the comments everyone it makes all the work worthwhile when other people like what you spent long hours making.

@Tawg I suppose its a lot different now days painting models, we have so much access to you tube videos for painting tips and guidance, and dads that grew up painting. Your generation just had a box of paints and a box cover to go by lol.

Umm, wth, when I started painting they looked like those horrid models you see regularly on ebay that are just blobs of colour...You have some tight skills (yeah I'm down with the kids) and these are looking great.

@Dark Prince You really should be proud of your painting skills, I started this hobby when I was about your age, I think the sixth edition just came out when I started playing. But my point is, every time you paint you are slightly better at it than the last time, so if you just keep on doing it, you're gonna be like next Picasso of the mini-world :D But I'm sure you are aware of this already, the comments speaks for itself.

edit. One thing tho, the grave guard has wrong base size game-wise :D But chaos warriors are very hard to put on 20mm bases. And I guess since this is an art forum, I really shouldn't pick on things like that.

I really really like the effect you got there on those grave guards, the combination of the colors. Grey browns of their cloaks fit the blue just perfect, in my opinion ;) And they're really well dressed for the cold :) Keep up with it, you have many years advantage against all of us old people here xD

Also, I guess you have a big surplus of chaos warriors heads to use somewhere else ;)
