The first member of my Mordheim warband, in Mordheim I'll be using it as a Dreg and in AoS it will be a Cairn Wraith. Doesn't look like either but its a nice model I think, although the purity seal appears to have frosted it for some reason, especially the sword but I don't think it looks too bad and please excuse the base, it came with a bit of stone on its base and then when I added some rocks they were bigger than I thought, so I tried filling in gaps with sand but the glue went everywhere and it was a nightmare -_-*

Very nice mini, where is it from?

Great choice of colours too. I always loved purple and brown together.

Base looks al-right to me, like some broken down ruin.

The frosting could possibly be due to the humidity in the air. Not really sure as I haven't used purity seal much.

The mini is from Reaper miniatures, I can't remember what it was called but I can find out if you want? It only cost £2.60 so it didn't exactly break the bank :P and I haven't used purity seal much either, but I think it actually looks okay, kinda disappointed the weathering powder seems to have disappeared though :\

That's supper funny, I thought that was one of the conversions like @Mad 'At did in his thread. Taking the Glade Guard from Wood Elves and just shaving them down to gloves/boots/cape and gluing them to look like spectral hit-men.

It's right here:
But not without one last update, I present to you my spirit host (two out of three at least):

But yeah, definitely cool. I love the idea/style so it's great fun, and I agree with @Mad 'At the base is fine. The profile is a little messy, but directly looking at it from the front I didn't even see anything to complain about. But I understand what you mean when you say it came with rocks and you were trying to fill it now that you mention it's a reaper model. Because they come with the assumption that you don't base your models so they have thick-as-hell metal hunks at the bottom to anchor them from toppling over for a, I don't know, D&D player who doesn't really do models or something.

Personally when I do up Reaper models, which I do fairly often since they have a ton of sweet looking evil characters and generic wraiths, I just snip those hunks of metal off. Cut them mostly off with a pair of snips (Maybe one you care less about if you have an older pair) and then I use a hobby knife to get the feet/whatever shaved down to the size I want it at, and I can base it how I please. It's a bit of work though, and just as well you can easily mask it like you have, as long as it's not much larger than the base you're putting them on :ghost:

Also, I'm all for "use as" models. Especially ones you just love the way they look, how can you avoid something so cool?

Wow @Mad 'At those conversions and paint jobs are amazing! How do you do that!? >.< and @Tawg I know what you mean, I use lots of "use as" models where I can because of how nice some of them look.

Anyway here was the Vampire I was planning for my warband, although I need advice on how I can fix the skin. The hair looks gorgeous so I'm pleased with that and the base, dress and grave look good enough but I kinda made a mistake with the skin by applying reikland fleshshade in hopes of making it more 3d, but it emphasised how poorly made the face was and then fixing it made the skin all ugly and ugh T~T

All advice appreciated on this one T^T

@Crystal: Glad you liked my Spirit Hosts. They are made from Wood Elf Glade Guards. I cut away all the fleshy parts and used the cloak of the minis to hold it all together. Weapons come from all kinds of kits.

About the vampire. I think the best solution is a careful highlight. With the drybrush in place you can now see all the raised areas, which should make it easier to pick them out with a highlight. It should help smooth out the splotches. A few glazes of the light skin colour could be used to lighten up the darkest shades and to further smooth the skin out.

Okay! So its been like...wow 7months or so since I last posted....been away from warhammer a really long time then since most of this I haven't been painting, building or even playing except the last couple of days. But let's start off with a few old models I forgot to include beforehand

If you hadn't guessed the Vargheists had been painted soooo long ago, but I thought I should include them in the plog anyway.
Next up is the Necrosphinx, was painted before my Stalkers and Ushabti but once again forgot to include, it is a lot more gold than pink so not sure, I like both but I prefer the way I did it with my other TK stuff...oh and the chin is damaged which is really sad :( but its not too noticeable in games

Next is my Morghast Harbingers, painted a few months ago but never really updated

These are the same spiders from before but just a clearer picture with their bases painted, nothing spectacular but they're based now so done unless I go over them later.

These...to be honest I have no idea, there was this whole thing in the store where the manager wanted me to do more spiders and stuff cos he liked them and said I should do a diorama or something so I bought an Arachnarok and Gigantic Spider, then noticed lots of spare parts (cos I don't like Goblins) so with some basing kits I made a couple of spider swarms out of boredom, no idea what I'll use them as if I use them at all but I like them

Aaaand last update for today at least, I got a lot more spirit hosts so, keeping with my theme of having no matching spirit hosts I give you all these

Sooo let me know what you guys think! I've got about 3 cases of models I plan to use regularly so I plan to focus on those in terms of painting for awhile, then gonna go through and base things before building much more. Also counting the skeletons on the spirit hosts as basing bits cos I'm too lazy right now XP I plan to update more in the near future so all advice is appreciated!

Huzzah! An update!

The gold and black look really well together on the sphinx imo. Would consider highlighting the face(whole skull really) a bit more to make it stand out. It blends in a bit with the surrounding gold.

As you know, I am not too fond of the Morghast models, but I must say that I quite like the bright red details on yours.

The spider swarms would work as scarab swarms wouldn't they?

I may go back and highlight it sometime then, but will likely be after I've done the rest of my army, the morghasts, I'm glad you like the detail, even though its just blood and eyes :P as for the swarms I originally planned to do that but with Games Workshop dropping support for tomb kings I was going to stop using them in most of my games and only bring them out when specifically in the mood or playing an earlier edition. So I didn't want to use them with a ruleset that would no longer be updated or supported.

@Crystal Definitely didn't expect to see such a mixed bag of minis in your update! :)

I'm a fan of the spiders - I've got loads waiting around to be painted. As Mad 'At says, they can be used as swarms. The big ones can be your dire wolves.

Your Morghast's look cool - you've made them look a bit like gargoyles by using limited colours on them.

Your take on spirit hosts is cool too. I guess I'm a little OCD in the way that I like unity and cleanliness, but your multi-coloured ethereals are cool.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks @Farmer7574 as I said I've been away quite awhile so never thought of any real order to what i painted things, I have many half-finished models that I need to continue. I'm glad you like my Morghasts though ^.^ my brother said they were really underwhelming...oh and as for the spider swarms I may just use them as bat swarms since tomb kings are no longer supported by games workshop, no they aren't anything close to bats but its easier than using units that are no longer supported.

I really like the sphinx, the gold turned out really, really good! Is his chinbeard broken and/or lost? We should have switched out kits, I don't intend to use that one part anyway ;) Also, as @Farmer7574 already said, the stony skin on the Vargheists makes them look like gargoyles and that's an awesome connection  Keep it all up!

@Borgnine now I'm totally confused, I thought @Farmer7574 meant varghesists too but he said morghasts which are totally different in names, but I can see where it could be seen like that on either, as for the chin, its lost but I have a spare unbuilt kit so I'll probably replace the chin with that one :p But I'll likely hold on to it in case I find someone who can cast sprues.

I wanted to make a comment about gargoyle-y Vargheists before I read his comment, so maybe my mind just simplified it and yours maybe did something similar xD

As for casting the sprues - I heard that plastic casting is very expensive, that's why only big companies do it. Smaller casters do it in resin or metal. Still, I wish you good luck :)

@Eyeless what kind of basing is that? o.o most of my stuff isn't based yet and the few things that are, are the spider swarms and one sepulchral stalker, the actual spiders had scenic bases anyway so I just painted them as they are.

@Borgnine It doesn't matter as long as I don't lose much detail from them :P but its worth thinking about

Hah i noticed how you based the stalkers with crystals thus similar to mine, and i didn't notice you still have to base most of them xD

Oh I see, yes I based that model during the end times with the hope of creating a "haunted battlefield" kind of look XP was way too lazy in the end

Oky so this is 2 of my Hexwraiths, not sure what everyone thinks. I like them but am very open to advice since they seem kinda plain (although I think that works to what I'm after)

I know they need neatening up, although with certain sections like around the steed's eyes I'm unsure whether I SHOULD neaten it up. Really no idea :\ honestly I went into these completely blind and even used a layer paint as a wash soooo...anything goes.

I really like that colour scheme on the hexwraiths, it's unique and definitely makes the model look otherworldly. Like you say it could perhaps do with a a little "something" to make it really pop but I'm not sure what. I look forward to seeing it updated.

@Farmer7574 I hadn't considered that XD thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll try that when I pick up my undead again, working on an Order Grand Alliance for AoS since my main opponents complain they can't beat my undead (even without summoning :\) so giving them a lil rest for now.
