The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa! - Rules Updated on 9-30-2010

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Good evening all!

With the holiday seasons approaching fast, it has been presented as an idea that we should try something new to our merry little community: A CN Secret Santa! We all enjoy Warhammer and all enjoy taking part in the hobby together, why not share some joy with it? Wouldn’t you like to exchange models with a “secret” recipient?

Sound like fun? Then read on below!

Starting Saturday the 2nd of October, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for the CN Secret Santa. The goal of this event is to paint someone a miniature without letting them know that you’re painting it for them. On the 9th of October Boo and myself will notify each participant who his or her secret recipient will be. Don’t tell anyone; it’ll ruin the fun! From there on, each of the participants will get a mini and paint it for their recipient to send. Everyone should receive a painted miniature from his or her Secret Santa by the 5th of January.

To be part of the CN Secret Santa Event, you must follow these procedures and guidelines:

• You must have a post count of at least 75.

• Sign your name up on the dedicated thread for the list.

• Send a PM to Boo and myself noting your full name, full address, and your “wants” for the miniature you’ll be receiving. This information will be given to the person who will be painting for you!

When you send your PM in to us, please use the following format:

Type: Vampire, preferably armoured (Blood Dragon style)

Made by: Fine with all manufacturers (doesn't have to be GW)

Colors/ Theme: Laqcured red armour style

Don't like: Current Aristocrat Vampiress or Vlad

There is a $15 limit on the mini you buy for someone; be thoughtful about it, this will be a gift to your person.

• Once you have a mini for that person, you must post a picture of the mini in the before stage, stating that you are ready to roll with it.

• You must post progress shots of your mini each week.

• You must find time to complete the mini and get it to your recipient by the 5th of January. While international shipping can be a pain, please take this into account and use your time wisely.

• We all paint at different levels and have different strengths. Be respectful of this. Realize that someone is taking the time to paint a miniature just for you! Any negativity about the gift a person receives will be dealt with sternly.

• If you sign up for this exchange, please follow through with it. If you cannot complete the exchange, then do not sign up for it. If anyone is left without a mini due to the incompetence of his or her Secret Santa, that sender will be dealt with sternly.

Please keep in mind that this event is for all of us to have fun. Any foul actions, such as not sending out a mini after you’ve made the commitment or the use of a poor attitude will be dealt with by stern moderator action. We’re here to have fun and enjoy each other’s creativity and giving spirit!

All in all, this should be a fun event! Now sign up!

All the best,

Jake and Boo

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

It sounds cool, have I got it right in that you get to request the mini you ideally want?

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

I am highly interested in participating, though I don't think my post count meets the requirement. What if I reach 150 posts by January? :D

I'm up for it, though I apologise in advance to my recipient for my painting skills

Yes, but doesn't the mini come with a portrait of you painting said mini with only a pillow to cover up the naughty bits?

Or did I mis-read the memo?

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

Interesting. With a nice low price on it it should be doable.
A few problems that will make it hard for me to participate however-
1# My painting ability is apalling.
2# There arent many minis available for $15, and thats in america. Here in Australia, minis like Konrad (single metal unmounted characters/heroes) (which cost $15 in america) cost $22.

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

I would like to do this but could we drop the number of posts to a lower number? (like 50) I would hate to clog up the forums with a bunch of random meaningless posts just to particapate.

I have a bunch of cool minis from reaper that would go great in someones vc army. Lets just say i bought them before realizing that you dont deploy as many special characters.

As for sanai's concern maybe having the option of doing a unit filler 40 x 40 for a zombie, skeleton, or ghoul horde would work. 2 or 3 plastic figures and some cool creativity would certainly be worth 1 metal one in my army.

One last thing if you particapate please have some army shoots up so I can work with the color theme of your army.

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

Yep, awesome idea! Unfortunately, although ive been on the site for a couple years, i also dont have the post totals to participate. but i look forward to seeing the progress of the entires, and maybe getting inspired by some of the awesome figures! have fun!

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

Im definatley up for this, $15 equates to £8, which is pretty much the average cost for metal hero/lord on foot, for all you exchange rate fans! I know this all for fun but there seems to be a few questions flying about, any chance of some definative answers to avoid confusion?

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

Yeah, sounds great. I'll definitely do it. Like DoN, apologies for painting standard, but it's more for fun, so looking forward to it. One question though, are Boo and RedArmy participating? If so, will they know who is painting for them or not?

Try your best in regards to having a mini that can come close to $15; we're not looking for anyone to spend an outrageous amount of money here. By all means, kit bash and be creative with it!

I have a few questions regarding the santa gift

If we buy it off ebay for 15 does that count even if its like say a 50 dollor figure(just curious)

Can we request in what we want some color idea's or such so it fits with a army?

If you can get it for $15 on eBay, more power to you! Yup, you place your requests when you send Boo and myself your registration message. It's a good time to address color schemes and such. Good question.

I secound that niko

Hey guys and gals! I know there is some concern in regards to the number of posts needed to participate. I'll be talking with Boo and DoN here shortly to see if we need to revamp that. If you're wondering why it's so high, it's to keep any forum "trolls" out of the event that may join, get a mini, and then leave. Now, I know none of you guys/gals would do that, but it's been done on other forums. I'll have an answer out here by tomorrow when I wake up hopefully, as I'd love to see a ton of people in this!

And yes, Boo and myself are in this as well. We already know who we're painting for :D

All the best,

Jake

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

OOOh, count me in. I've done mini exchanges in the past and they're always fun. Info coming later today in PM. :)

Cheers, Wolfie

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

I'd love to participate but being a new user I have no chance of hitting the 150 post count while still having time to paint anything.
I love painting for other people. Its a great opportunity to try out different models that you might not have in your own list.

RE: The Carpe Noctem Secret Santa!

I think people should also mention in their PM’s whether they only want GW or whether they can accept other companies. You can get some really good bargains from other companies so if people can accept that, they could end up getting more for their money.
