Ok guys, I'm putting my foot down. this is the sign up thread so please keep it only related to new characters or discussing them. there is the OOC for endless conversation

Hmm... I feel like making a... Wizard... This is definitely not because I'm RPing a character that can't fling around any spells elsewhere on the forum... From what I've read, the lore of beasts would be the easiest to not be really tightly tied to a particular group, though I get the feeling that any human wizard not tied to the imperial colleges gets persecuted quite a bit... So any advice on wizards? How tightly controlled are the wizards to the their colleges? Are they set up like an extension of the inquisition, where they almost religiously follow their higher ups, or is it more like a sort of loose guild of wizards? Can wizards just walk off and get jobs elsewhere? Could they be assigned to a mercenary group? actually that would probably be the easiest option... which would also open up more options regarding the lore of magic... Actually, I should probably check to see if being a wizard is alright first... Is it?

Imperial wizards can generally travel freely (and have licenses to as to avoid the scrutiny of witch hunters) however outside of the colleges magic is quite feared and distrusted, so magicians don't really go around proclaiming their abilities. So a wizard can go around doing jobs on their own, or they might have been assigned by the colleges, or be a rogue wizard, plenty of options for them. the colleges have a hierarchy but it's pretty loose from what i gather, and they are separate from the inquisition.

You certainly can be a wizard, in fact, I even included a little clause on them in the sign-up!

I should point out that the kind of wizard you will be will be the sort that can cast a spell every now and again, unless they've been stockpiling their might, then they could cast quite a few in an instance. So in other words, low power, game terms probably a level 1.

Since the amethyst college despises undead that'd be a reason that they would be assigned to this mercenary group, to help put down the undead.

Other colleges that might want to help are the light college (not sure if they are particularly out hunting the undead but their magic is well suited).

Aside from those like you said the Amber order don't really have a HQ and so I believe each does their own thing.
I think a Grey Wizard however would be a good choice, they are wanderers and often carry a sword as a symbol of their order, so your guy could have some sword ability for when hes not blasting magic. Also grey wizards are quite sneaky so he could be good at disguising the fact hes a wizard if you wanted.

There's a fair bit of choice.

Basically, any of the lores would be suitable as pretty much all of them have a reason for being there (except perhaps metal)

Well he could be searching for secret alchemy texts or implements lost in the cutting off of sylvania. Bit of hidden backstory to cover the details or all etc!

Sorry Commisarlestat, I was just looking through the thread and realised I never replied to your character!

Could you change the powerful enemy weakness? that's not really something that might come up in the depths of sylvannia and is more of a background trait than a character flaw. Other than that, everything's good

Name: Roget le beau

Age:21
Weight: 11stone
Height: 5'9"

Character: Roget is the third son to a minor brettonian lord. He grew up with his brothers hunting and fighting in minor skirmishes with the beast men in the woods. With the death of his father he was knighted by his eldest brother who was now lord. Roget thought this an amazing turn of luck however it was merely a ploy. Roget had always been better than both his brothers in arms and slightly more charismatic. His brother then let it be known that the knighthood had a condition. That he had to leave on an errand to earn his spurs, his errand to retrieve a damsel in distress who his brother was betrothed to. He gave roget the family sword as evidence of his lineage. Roget none the wiser left on his errand finding her quickly. He (with the help of a small retinue) gained access to the manor in which she was held. His retainers brought the lady to him so they could escape but she had been knocked unconscious. On return to his brother he was not heralded as a great knight. A herald of the lady's father claimed that Roget had stolen the lady against her will. Astonished Roget stared at his brother. With an evil grin his brother claimed to have no knowledge of the act. He hung all of Roget's loyal men from the walls as they were non nobles who had touched a lady. Roget was banished from the lands. He ran that night managing to smuggle the sword by wrapping the hilt in a torn surcoat.

Occupation: wandering knight/disenfranchised brettonian son

Item: sword of the house of beau.
A lovely sword, re-hilted many times over the years however the blade has always remained sharp. Some say it has magical properties others that it is simple high quality dwarf craftsmanship. The pommel encompasses a finger bone of an ancestor grail knight who's name is only remembered as the venerated beau.

strengths:
knightly training: Roget is proficient in all things knightly which boils down to his training in use of sword, lance and riding a horse.
Doing it the right way you know how the lady says: Roget will never leave wounded men of equal rank behind or run in the face of danger (stubbornness in combat essentially)
Righteous fury: Roget having been wronged and will fight all the harder if he believes his opponent to have backstabbed him or his friends.

weaknesses:
Naivity: Roget knows the ways of a Breton. He often forgets he now fights in the empire and frowns upon firearms and those of lower social status even when not prudent.
Paranoid: Roget is always on the lookout for people double crossing him. He has been this way for a while and it has led to a certain amount of paranoia. He perceives trickery in every hushed conversation. He is therefore distrustful and may act with righteous fury against people even when they have no plans to back stab him.

Not sure if I should change is item to a horse although I like the sword.

That a better drawback? It's quite similar to the other one but short of giving him a club foot I'm not quite sure of other weaknesses.

When changing your character you don't need to re-post it, you can just edit it into the old one Commisar

I'm pretty sure practically everyone who had the opportunity to ride a horse or walk would choose horse :P

I'm not picking on you, it's just that these strengths and weaknesses need to be actually applicable.

Perhaps for a weakness you could play into the righteous fury aspect and reflect that as a weakness also, or if you made the horse your item you could make your weakness a personal connection to the horse. I can guarantee you that you will receive a weapon if you are worried about that

Have edited the second one I put up. I went with your suggestion linking the righteous fury in with a healthy dose of paranoia. What do you reckon?

-Hardened Lance
Far more unlikely to break than a standard lance, this heavy lance, while effective on a charge ceases to be of any use once the charge has been halted or blows struck.
