"But you might find hidden valuables inside the castles. Sure they are looted many times over by now but you of all people should know that many looters don't really know where to look."

Serethia flashed a small grin before continuing to argue with the thief.

"Besides, can you really outrun a beast inside their own home..? Even I can't outrun a wulf."

"Maybe not, but theres bound to be easier pickings for said beaties. By the time they finish wiv those I'll be long gone."

Niall's eyes flicked briefly towards Melody as he spoke.

"And I 'ighly doubt there is anyfing worth lookin' fer in those places. It's not like Sylvania is the richest place in the world and judgin' by the looks of some of these places they couldn' even afford to finish buildin' 'em!"

*Looking Back to the others from up on his horse*

"We should ask the hospitality of one of the castles inhabitants.
A noble lady would never be caught camping in the wild a stones throw from a prospective lords dwelling and afterall, besides is questioning the local lords and investigating said castles not our main method of trying to track this beast of ours?"

*Peering off into the distance*

"We gain the hospitality of one of these buildings, it maintains the story we have decided to don as our cover, also it protects us from anything outside its walls allot better than those houses would back there, taking in mind we would have allot less protection.
Now we also have the advantage of finally having a chance at some serious useful information thats not from some back water peasant, an actual reputable source who will no doubt have detailed maps of the surrounding lands and their castles which we will need to know about and a good nights rest.

Best case scenario we get the information we need and leave well rested.
Worst case, the castle is full of vampires and at least we know we are in the right place."

*Grinning*

"I say we chance it, its allot more logical and safer than the alternative.
besides, another few hours and we will run our horses into the ground, full plate is not light, even for a horse."

Melody stumbled to a halt as the group paused to consider their new options. She was exhausted and muddy. Her legs ached and her hair was a complete mess. The idea of a continued force march to the next town was horrifying but fortunately her companions seemed more inclined to stop and she was thankful she didn't have to whinge or complain.
"I agree we should seek hospitality at yonder castle. We are more likely to find answers or at least warm food and a comfortable bed for the night. We need to recover our strength before continuing much further."

"I agree with Sir Vandire, Lady Melody and the lovely Serethia." Sigmund said, the last with more than a little sarcasm.

"A Castle...an inhabited castle, would be our safest bet. A Lord would be honour-bound to offer hospitality to those of noble blood and their, or in this case her, retinue." he said glancing at Melody. "Well normally. Sylvanians aren't known for their hospitality but still it is our best bet."

The knight nodded.
"Aye that's what we'll do."

Sigmund turned back to the Noblewoman and smiled "Just remember that we're in your family's service and everything wil be fine."

Serethia allowed a small laugh to escape her lips, her right hand casually motioning at the areas around the group. Something the brave yet badly geared Knight said seemed to have amused her greatly.

''And what if most of the castles around here are abandoned?''

Her amusement and her words sadly forced all of the air out of the scouts lungs and so she took a few moments to calm herself before speaking again.

''The leader has spoken then, heh. So our noble girl should know something about castles and pick one out for us that is most likely to have some people in it?''

Unable to help herself, Serethia moved her gaze onto the thief and displayed a arrogant grin that could belong to a smug noble. The woman does enjoy getting things go her way at least.

Sigmund smirked slightly.

"I wouldn't worry, it's rarely hard to find an inhabited castle, even in a land such as this." he said kicking his horse back into motion.

"Nobles do like their ostentatious homes." he muttered as he reluctantly recalled his own family's lost lands.

Niall cursed and began to mutter to himself.

"Of course it'll be inhabited, probably by some 'orrible, ugly fing. And we're just gonna march right down it's froat cos that's wot they fink is safe. Well I sure as 'ell won't be stickin' around when fings go wrong, they can all suffer their own bleedin' consequences. Bloody arrogant..."

His voice trailed off into the darkness. He noticed the scout grinning at him and scowled.

"If no one lives there then we can still sleep inside. " Melody said with cheerful optimism and ignorance.

Trailing slightly behind the group Mikhail grimaced in pain as he clutched his side where he was wounded it seemed to be be healing though all the walking didn't help he thought

Hearing the thief mutter to himself made him laugh

"Don't worry coward, in my condition I can't run from anything so if we do find trouble I'll stay fighting whilst you flee, how does that sound???

though that doesn't mean you won't suffer a worst fate as you try escaping, after all the most deadly and terrifying predators just love it when their prey try running, why something could be hunting us at this very moment.......just waiting"

Laughing again before turning to the others

"So... why don't we just try the nearest castle and be done with it, I doubt it could be worse than being vulnerable out here in the open"

Serethia's raised a eyebrow as she listened to Mikhail's words, they truly seemed to inspire her as she was quick to move towards the thief in the hopes to be able to get close enough to speak in a low voice, ensuring the conversation remains private.

"I still think a castle is the best option but-..."

The scout tossed a glance towards the loud warrior.

"If things do go wrong and we are unable to fight our way out, then he would be a perfect...loud distraction. You as a thief could lead me out of the castle and I as a scout could lead you out of these god forsaken lands. I did more then just scout the road ahead after all."

The woman's gaze returns to the thief and her grin has been replaced with almost amusingly pleasant smile.

Niall stared at the scout for a brief moment. He spoke softly, keeping the conversation between the two of them.

"Interestin' proposal. An alliance of our two selves does seem to bode well for our chances of survival. I like the principal of it. And in these circumstances I suppose we 'ave no choice but to trust each ovver."

He flashed an oily smile at the woman.

"Exactly."

Serethia kept herself close to the thief, waiting for the rest to decide to what castle they will finally head to.

"Unlike some we are here for the coin, after all. I rather flee and find a new job then die a heroes pointless death for some woman I have never even met."

After a brief moment of silence she spoke again with her usual amused voice.

"Of course I hope it does not come to that-...but best be prepared and have a plan."

After walking for about an hour more and passing by another decrepit ruin you come across a small castle manor with light emitting from it's windows and smoke pouring from it's sole chimney. A thin winding path, too small for a carriage leads through the small wood that lines the side of the road to Waldenhof. The castle itself sits atop a small cliff face of maybe a metre and a half with a low Stone wall lining the edge. on top of the wall itself lies a wrought iron fence.

The castle itself is a simple two story affair that lies quite close to the wall, and it appears that the path leads up a steep cut in in the cliff side into a central courtyard that the U-shaped building surrounds.

Further to the left it looks like an entire wing of the castle has crumbled away as the cliff face eroded, twisting the metal fence leaving a pile of rubble that slopes relatively evenly up to several doors that are simply boarded shut. Further to the right there seems to be several small huts at the base of the cliff, which could easily be a servants quarters or perhaps the residence of the peasantry who are lorded over by whoever resides in the castle but apart from hunting, and even then you've seen few animals, you can't see any way in which those who live in the huts could contribute.

Despite the pathetic state of the castle, it is in better condition than most that you have seen along the way and definitely is inhabited unlike the majority which you have past. At least you can be certain that in the sections still standing the roof is in good condition and would protect you from the rain that is pooling in the dark clouds overhead, even if the only space to sleep on offer in the small building might be on the floor in some main hall or dining room.

The scout appeared to be annoyed beyond words as she moved with the group. It was not a difficult task to notice the dark clouds and know what they promised to unleash on the band of mercenary's.

"This better work or I will suggest we simply force our way in. Being stuck outside with no shelter here will be a most unpleasant experience."

Slowly her slender hand moved to confirm that her dagger still hanged from her belt, the thieves words somewhat heavy on her mind. After all they might be walking into a madman's lair or perhaps even a monsters. However it was as likely that they will find a minor and kind noble whose hospitality could be abused.

"So what was the plan again, oh fearless leader?"

Sigmund resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the scout's continued use of her so called "wit" as nodded to the castle.

"Killing a noble household? That's a good idea." he said sarcastically before continuing in a normal tone "I say Vandire and I go up first and announce the request for hospitality from our Lady as her sworn retainers."

He looked at the others "The request coming from a pair of knights will carry more weight than seeing our entire mismatched party at once...besides it is mannerly to give the master of the estate at least some time before his guest arrives."

"I said nothing about killing."

Yet again the leather clad woman displayed her wide grin as she kept her eye's on the Knight.

"Still if asking nicely does not work-...Well I am sure you can make it clear to whoever is inside what a terrible insult it will be against our little noble."

Melody looked up at the grim and forbidding castle nervously, its turrets lost in fog. Now that she was here going inside didn't seem like such a good idea. However she did not voice her misgivings. "That is a good idea, the two of you can get an idea for whether the place will be good for staying the night."
