Back out of curiosity! I loved 8th Ed and I was gutted when it ended. I tried to raise a legion of chattering ghouls in AOS, but it just was not for me.

TOW was a drop of blood on my ancient palette! That said, like all undead monstrosities of a certain age, nostalgia has its fangs sunk deep into my throat, just like my master did during that fateful Geheimnisnacht in Praag so many years ago.

I am not here try to ruin anyone’s enjoyment of newer systems, but the game and setting I love exists in the past. In the words of the Lahmian XCX, “I just wanna go back, back to 1999”. (Perhaps extending a decade or so, but what is such time to Immortal beings?)

Welcome! As one of the few who like warhammer both old and new, I'm always happy to meet a player who can like either one without hating the other. The animosity between the two groups is a real shame, & fully the fault of GW's mismanagement.

Old World is pretty great. A fair bit of jank, but a strong initial outing none the less. It feels like old warhammer, and even as an AoS fan I did miss that. I hope you find it to your liking! The undead rules, both dry and damp, are very solid & pretty evocative, though they do aim for 8e flavor, so no bloodline rules, at least not officially.

But if your local club is open to unofficial rules...

Square Based - The Renegade Legacy Pack - the square based renegade legacy pack of unofficial errata patches to the legacy pdf armies. Relatively minor changed for vc compared to the other legacy factions, since the vc rules are already very strong overall, but a few tweaks to vampires specifically to help them function in the hybrid martial/caster role they currently occupy.

Some events have even started using this pack, lending it some legitimacy. Def worth seeing if your local group will adopt it, even more for the sake of any lizardmen & skaven players than for us, the vamp counts pdf is pretty much on par with or even a level above many of the 'official' factions in quality of our rules, but its sadly not the case for most of the other legacy pdf factions.

Dropbox - imo the best homebrew arcane journal currently available for old world vampire counts, with bloodlines added to the grand army in the form of new vampiric powers, plus a pretty cool 'army of infamy' variant list & units for pirates of the vampire coast.

DoN, the blood sire of these boards, hopes to get our own homebrew arcane journal going with maybe more involved bloodline rules, which would be cool. For the moment though ASF's is the best one out there imo, if your local group is willing to give it a try.

All that said, even if ypur local group isn't willing to try unofficial rules, the undead are still in a great place in tOW, at least for the moment. Both VC and RC are very strong and very popular factions in the game, & a lot of fun to play.

90s was when I got into Warhammer as well, firstly with Dwarves (who I still love and will get around to collecting in The Old World), and then 4th edition Undead, following by all editions of VC. I loved the Bloodlines, and as Sception mentions, I definitely plan to look at homebrewing a CN update to the The Old World legacy list. We previously created quite a comprehensive Bloodline Armies list with lots of different options, so I'll be pulling on that as a starter to see what works, would be great to have you involved!

Welcome to the forum . I still have a copy of the Warhammer First Edition Rulebook, even though I never actually played it. I started in the 1990s too, somewhere around 1993, and I played the original Undead and Empire. Those were the days. What has happened since has been a mixture of positive, negative, and something in between. The main thing is that people enjoy what they enjoy though and I look forward to reading whatever you have to contribute to our community here. I hope you enjoy participating .
