It is a vanity exercise posting these pictures as some earlier shots of this army were posted on the previous version of the forum but I think these pictures are a bit better and I want to support my fellow Zombie Pirate players (a strange but amusing breed I like to think )

Most amazing! I love your army! I never could be bothered to convert deck droppers, but you've done an brilliant job. The swamp feel of everything is great - you;ve put a lot od design thought into these little fellers. The boat in the midst of one unit - wish I'd thought of that!

Where are the Deck gunners models from, might I ask? And what model is Harkon himself?

PS: Have you ever actually gained victory with your army in battle? It's becoming traditional that they always lose around here!

Its great to see all these vampire pirate armies, gives me hope for a better list.

i saw this army on the old forum, but i dont think i said anything there. anyway, i love this army, especially some things like the (rather odd) rotting leviathon, the bamboo platform for the carronade, and the cold one zombie rider

Nice stuff, i saw this on the old CN, and it was awsome. I especially like your unit fillers and rotting Levithan What did you use for the deck gunners?

The deck gunners are Eureka pirates and swivel guns mounted on lead GW bits (the supports for their siege mallets).

The Rotting Levithan is an old Grenadier model.

Harkon is an older GW Vampire with a cutlass grafted on.

As to the questions regarding the army performance: 7 losses/ 1 draw/ 1 win

Wow! Other zombie pirate players! so i'm not all on my own! If only i could make zombies as good as those, i would wi.... no, i'd still probably lose

Seriously, WOW
that carronade is top class

All I have at the moment is 30 deck hands, 16 deck gunners, 10 scurvy dogs, 5 animated hulks, 2 carronades, the Queen and 10 bloated corpses, but only 1 fleet captain. I don't have any ideas on how to make Harkon, and I have no idea what to build next.
Any advice?

a good source of fleet captains in my opinion are the warmachine revenant crew, many of those models make great fleet captains. As to Harkon, well, I suppose you could build him the way they suggest in the army list, but if you look hard enough there are some good undead pirate models online. check out reaper miniatures. or if you want to use the same model I used, check out blooddragon miniatures.

Kewl, thanks. I also had an idea for a rotting laviathan:
You take one Slann, add a few scars, underlying bones (and maybe green stuff up an eye patch and a bandana!) and try to make a lot of zombies carry him around. Any Lizardmen player would be fairly pissed off at that!

I also have an idea for a rotting leviathan! It came to me in a dream! (honestly it did...:S)

Its more of an undead construct then a whole dead...thingy. It has the front half of like a giant, rotting crocodile, its bare eye sockets glowing red with unholy magic, and the back half of some sort of whale, also rotting. Then, in the middle holding the two side together is a wrecked, rotting, barnacle encrusted prirate ship, going sort of diagonally through the creature. Holding these three parts together are a series of giant wooden stakes driven right through the beast and anchor ropes, some with anchors still attached. The pirate ship acts as a howda sort of thing, with zombie pirate crew on it.

Yes i do have strange dreams...the night before i was chased by Tom Hanks riding a giant purple mule :S

Army of the Cairns: Update to VC's

I am planning to take a 2500 VC army to the NZ Nationals this Easter, just in time to use the new book. My army of the Cairns will be the basis for the army but will require a few additions

As I will not have the book until fairly close until the competition, I plan to try and complete a range of units to give me as many options as possible.

Zombies - I will use my Zvezda zombies painted as Glooms for zombies. The paint job is a bit odd but I already have 40 done this way. They will be re-enforced by another 30 zombies made out of spare bits.

Ghouls - I have a few ghoul models but the Embalmed ones from my current army can double as Ghouls.

Fell Bats - the stone gargoyles from my current army can double as these.

Vargulf - my current Nightmare can be this

Blood Knights - I am converting some Empire knights with blood dragon heads and shields

Corpse Cart - using the old GW Plague cart and maybe a rackham model as well

Bat Swarms - using the Reaper models

Vampires - Heresy models

Spirit Host - I have some Keltos celts that I am going to base up as Spirit Host. Their look should match that of a burrows army.

Wraiths - Reaper models

I have a few beastmen to finish for a competition in the first week of February but after that I should be into it and hopefully have some pictures to post.

Checked out your 'army of the cairns' thread as well, and amazing, really impressive in the uniqueness..

Do you ever find though you ever have any problems at the nationals fielding mini's that are from other lines apart from GW? I use Reaper mini's myself for my necro's, and will be using some for my female vamps as well, but have found that GW get touchy about them in official GW tournaments..

Just one quick question, Why blue?
I haven't read the Cairns army list myself, but why would it tell you to paint them blue?

BTW That skelly jester is amazing! I might just have to steal the idea! (I steal a lot of ideas)

darknesseternal - the NZ Nationals isn't a GT, just a national competition hosted each year by a different New Zealand club, so I can go crazy on the types of miniatures in safety.

The Dark Lord Mr Fluffy - the Zombies I have painted so far are a blue-white colour to represent Glooms - a ethereal unit in the Carins list - so I am painting the re-enforcements the same way as I can use the 40 I already have painted.

An odd colour scheme for Zombies but no one will mistake them for skeletons

My orders from both Reaper and GW have arrived so I have lots of new dollies to play with.

The Reaper figures are all fantastic - the only small concern is that some of them are a shade taller than GW minis but not enough to really be a worry.

The Blood Dragon heads and shields from the vamp mounted on Nightmare fit on Empire/brett knights well so my Blood Knights are sorted.

Still finishing off beastmen for the doubles competition this weekend and then I have an Art Deco weekend to go to the weekend after. After then it will be chocks away - NZ Nationals at Easter, about 2 weeks after the new VC book is out.

I got the spearhead box over the weekend and am currently converting up a heap of Black Knights.

I still need to decide on my final list but it will be a cavalry strong force. At 2500 pts, I might even field some Blood Knights.
