Hi everyone,

Long time lurker here but always been into vampire counts since reading a battle report in white dwarf many many moons ago.

(I believe it was beast men vs undead in case anyone remembers it other than me xD)

Anyway decided to take up the race I held so much interest in and one day returned home to find the wife standing next to a large box of vampire counts and a mega paint set.

So in the interest of not wanting to upset her I started to build......and use her wood elf army as parts (with the aid of the cat).

Anyway I decided to set some rules to help me complete my task.

No.1 - Don't over convert model.
Sounds silly but I am famous for building my own models or highly converting models to the point of not being able to fully paint them.

No.2 - theme army.
I love theme armies and when I finally get to battle with them I intend to use models which fully suit with the theme below.

Theme;

A master vampire hunting 3 wood elf brothers who each hold part of a terrible secret.

Everyday they are hunted and stalked until finally caught and tortured to death for their secret.

while they manage to hide and re-direct the vampire and his army or push him back they can never truly eliminate him.

Legend whispers that a noble wood elf was slain during a challenge with a blood knight vampire.

Legend also details that due to his fighting prowess the vampire allowed him to keep his life, not as elf but as undead.

when the noble elf finally made it back to his camp he was horrified to find he was attacked and shunned by family and battle brothers alike.

Chased and hunted by his three younger brothers until he was a considerable distance from his homeland he vowed to return and destroy the very things he once loved.

For years he looked on at his former homeland and despised it with every fibre of his being.

It was during a battle with an accomplished way watcher that he learned about a powerful weapon which once located could make him become invisible to all but the most powerful insight.

This very weapon could be the one artefact which could allow him to sneak into the heart of Athel Loren. Furthermore he realised that his younger brothers had been awarded the duty of protecting this relic by each knowing a part of the location.

By hunting each of his former brothers down he could piece together the relics location and walk into the resting places of the wood elves unhindered.
From there he could then summon an army of epic proportion positioned within the heart of Athel Loren and strike down those who attacked him.

He set about marching on small bretonian towns, murdering and raising each worthy opponent that stood before him.

Slowly his ranks swelled and alongside his trusty generals (one being the way watcher he first encountered), as his ranks fill he stalks his younger brothers in the night and upon finding one he tortures each in ways too horrifying to comprehend before finally turning them so they can help piece together the location of the sought after relic.

Finally his mission is in reach and with only one brother to hunt soon vengeance shall be his!

No.3 keep the paint scheme simple and coherent.

Anyway without further ado please behold my yet to be named vampire and his armada.

C&C Welcomed. (please forgive the pictures I'm still learning to take them)

I love your background. As I was reading about the 3 elf brothers who all have one part of the secret location, I was thinking that the best part of the story would be right before he found the third part. And then you went and did just that! Nicely done.

The musician is hilariously awesome. I love the expression and the subtle way you've repositioned him. Great work!

I know you said you're still getting the hang of taking pictures, but if you want more feedback, you might consider posting them inline rather than adding attachments, using "img" tags. It saves people having to "click through" each image to see them. Also your pics are probably about twice as big as they need to be. If you resize 'em before you send 'em it makes everything faster.

Keep up the great work!

thanks for the c&c and advice on the pictures.

Must admit the musician was a pain to reposition such tiny parts and I struggled to pin each part.

I am one of those people who shouldn't be allowed to upload pictures as I end up doing something wrong but I will do what you said next time.

Cheers again.

well finally got some peace and quite so I went to town on my favourite model so far.

Hopefully I have pulled off some better pictures this time.

C&C welcome.

Also if anyone knows of a better way to use an iphone to take pictures please let me know ....I would be your little friend for ...ever.:Vampire1:

The only thing I could say about photo taking is natural light is your friend, with my older camera (even back then it was run of the mill) I've found if you don't want to set up things like light boxes with 3 lamps to light from all relevent directions that your best bet is to wait for a bit of sunlight and run out there like some sort of crazed loon with your models and start taking pics. For indoors you've got the right idea with the white background, but it'll need closer lighting most likely.

Though the pics not blurry even still can pick out the majority of detail easy enough, love the guitar playing skele btw, characterful one that.

Love that skeleton

I don't use a phone to take my pics, but I don't have a lightbox set up... I just use the daylight lamp which I use for painting and try and angle it to give the best illumination. Seems to work ok for my old camera, so guess it would work for a phone. I agree with Devour that daylight is a good way to go, but all my hobby time is in the evening so not an option for me most of the time!

well been neglecting my models for a month so decided to jump back in and start finishing my ghoul squad.

Due to the fluff background I decided to try and bring out the wood elf/vampire counts theme together.

I wanted regular ghouls to be prowling alongside manipulated and corrupted tree spirits so with a bit of glue and madness I started to convert.

So far I am pretty please with them and hopefully will have a full squad together by the end of the month so I can see if the themes work.

Again sorry about the crappy cam pictures was in a rush.
