RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

For once I actually made the "dead"line I set for myself. Here is the completed unit of skellies, rebased and retouched... I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out in the end...

As you might also notice, I have repainted the banner to resemble my lords heraldry. I havn't got any real freehand skills, so I won't try and paint the wolf just yet (if at all). Anyway I'm happy with the faded red...

Now I'm off to start on the zombies and Corpse Cart. After that I'm moving onto the lord, on which I've finally decided the pose... Aint gonna say more than that... wanna keep your attention, right ?

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

the unit looks really good! I painted the shields from my unit grey, and even just that made the unit look better. Though I think I will still get rid of some of the red. The banner is a nice touch. Just gives that little bit of extra colour and makes the banner stand out

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Really awesome skellies! :D The red is a very nice touch! It fits really nicely with the grey, and the skellies look really "ancient", in lack of better words. ;)

I think you should at least try to paint the wolfhead, if not right away on the banner but maybe on a piece of paper or something like that. Just to try it out. If you would get the wolfhead on their banner it would make the unit look even better. And kudos to you for even basing and painting the movement tray, I never find the patience for that. ;)

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Great looking unit, nicely painted.

As for the banner, no need to draw it, you already have one as your avatar, just print that out onto label paper (the one with the sticky side) resizing if necessary for each unit. Then press the sticky side onto tinfoil, turn over attach a plain label or another of your printed ones to the back, Cut out, distress as you like, bend to make look like it is fluttering then paint with a couple of coats of PVA (Elmers) glue.

The tin foil holds the fluttering shape until the glue dries.

If you want to get really flash, before painting on the glue highlight the printed picture with paints just the same as any other part of the model.

Easy banners, no messing with freehand. Also works well for shield designs and anything else that requires a lot of repeats of the same image.

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Fantastic skellie unit, and they grey nicely ties them together, the banner us well painted and I agree practise on the wolfs head and then give it a go!

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Thank you guys. As the new laptop i ordered is most likely to arrive today, I'll be buissy working with that for the next couple of days, but I have started asembling the zombies, and I tell you one thing... they are looking good....

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Black? To me it looks grey, but anyway...
It's a 1:1 mix of chaos black and adeptus battle grey with a highlight of Adeptus B-grey. Some of them have an additional highlight of astronomican grey to add variation.

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

I was originally gonna continue on my zombies after a couple of days of playing with my computer, but today I went down to GW to pick up the new WD. As I bought it, the staff told me they would hold a painting competition on saturday where you could paint either of the free minis that came with the magazine.

Now what I'm trying to say is that I intend to participate (going for the terminator), so no updates till sunday at least :(.

Hope I winn the collectors edition 40K book (even though I've never ben fond of the game .)

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

sounds like me. I have to say I haven't seen anybody else that could paint shade/highlight and even greenstuff work than you for a long time. Great job. Good luck with the paint competition. I have to say I was tempted to go to 40k with the models I got too from the WD.

Adios

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

it's just painting a different shape, nothing you couldn't handle by the looks of it! Keep to the medium you know best and master blast the rest of the contestants!

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

The competition went very well. At least if you take in the consideration that this is my first painting competition ever... I FINISHED AS NUMBER 4!!!

Now I'm sure you want to see my fantastic "almost award winning" Ork Nob , so I won't let you wait any longer.

Here's a pic of the front.

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Wow that is great, the competition must have been good if you got beaten, Still you did well if that was your first competition.

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Thanks for that. There was a couple that had some freehand stuff painted onto the shoulder pads and such, so I think that is one of the reasons why they did... One other reason is that I sat painting till 2.30 AM, so I was so tired I couldn't see straight . Thus I missed some small details...

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

ah, well it looks great! The scratches along the metal looks great. Not too much but not to little either. How long did it take you to paint it?

RE: The Dark Sheep starts painting

Well I've always thought that "All it takes to start a long journey is one step." BTW how did the terminator look after you finished it?
