I think put a few layers of dirt over the top of the shields would be great, for rust io would base coat it brown and then highlight up with orange

Another little update of the now completed Skelly unit!

Champion and standard bearer are now complete. I'm not sure what symbol to put on the banner so it's going to stay as is for now.

Now it's time to start work on the 40 zombies I've just put together using; Empire militia parts, the zombie frames and the bret. men at arms box.

Managed to snap off one quick crappy shot of my test zombie before the batteries died on my camera. Will hopefully get more tomorrow but for now, here he is.

Please excuse the shine, I'd only just applied the varnish and wanted to grab a pic before the daylight vanished completely.

Wow, the vampire looks great ranked up in the skeletons. He really stands out but still manges to look part of the unit. You have a great use of colour, keep it up

Got some batteries for the camera now and the sun has been shining so I thought I'd grab some pics of the test zombie and his mate. See if I get more feedback with better pics.

Let me know what you think.

I think you got the skintone just right on the zombies. The only thing I do not like is the green eyes. I don't know why, I just think it looks wrong. Red would probably make the eyes stand out more, but you might not want that.

Anyway, I've really got nothing more to add, they look great.

believe it or not red nail varnish makes for great blood (just mix with some chaos black), gives it that shine, other than that (and blood is very hard to get right, i've been trying for god knows how many years) they look very good

It's been a very slow painting week this week :(

I've split the 40 zombies into groups to make it easier to paint them. The first group I'm painting is the ones made solely from the zombie sprues. The second one will be those converted from brettonians and finally the third one will be those made from the random empire boxes I've used.

Here's the pics of the small amount of work I've done this week. My appologies for the lack of effort I've been quite busy with real life stuff :(

@Boo. I agree with you about the green eyes, I was planning to do any flames in the army (The corpse cart for example) a vivid green colour and wanted the eyes of the zombies to match. Once I've done the flames and look at the army as a whole, I'll consider going back and changing the eyes if they still look out of place.

@Logan054. I think the crappy looking blood is mainly down to my bad photography. I'm using the technique described on the warhammer forum by an awesome painter called Mika. I'd definately recommend checking out his stuff.

Man, those are some fab looking zombies. The eye thing is interesting, for me personally the contrast between the muted colours of flesh and the brightness of the green eyes is maybe a wee bit strong but like you say if its an over all effect for the army then lets see at the end when they're all done. Im interested to see brettonian zombies, I dont think I've seen that before. Good stuff, keep it coming.
