So as you know i've been working on my own little world, literally, so i thought it was time to give the undead of this world a break and focus more on things with a pulse.
This world centres around a series of novels I have been writing for about a year now and my main focus on the vampire counts site is the horde of Bail Kor, a deamon with necromantic powers. So this new painting log is focusing on his victims/nemisises (spelling?) the Shieldbreaker clan, who are the extended family of the series protagonist Oscar.

There was a small mention of these fearless dwarves in the Bail Kor thread but they were simply a footnote that deserved a much larger amount of attention. So now im giving them their just deserts by giving them this painting log. Specifically the members of the Shieldbreaker clan who travel to the town of Stow, a safe haven along a mountain pass called the Silverpath, which is essential for the flow of precious metals into Dupelcopf, ancesteral home of the Shieldbreakers.
Thankfully they do not stand alone in defending this town from the ravaging undead. They stand shoulder to shoulder, (or should that be shoulder to waist), with the men of Stow, tough mountain men desperatly defending their homes and their families by voluntering to serve under the Lords of Stow as militia, using their numbers to supliment the training and efficency of the registered soldiers.

To start of my Defenders of Stow I will be using a box of Empire Militia, Empire Soldiers and Dwarven Warriors. I already have a model for Oscar and Elnor, but they may be remade depending on my whims.

I bought the models this morning and having looked through them i decided to start cranking out some militia. Only to discover I was being drawn subconsciously to the box of foot soldiers. So I decided to start making these first so that I could have some spare bits to play around with when making the militia.

For some reason I also have a very rogueish pirate model, but realising that Stow was TOTALY land locked i decided to just make him an exotic traider that may appear in the story at some point.

If any empire players would be kind enough to kick me for this feel free to do so, but I equipped the foot soldiers with Halbierds because of the image of a court filled with halbierd wielding guards. (and maybe the fact that the main general attacking Stow is a strange mutant half dragon thing called "Harold the Herald" see the Horde of Bail Kor thread for a pic) The militia will be given a variety of weapons but for image purposes im staying away from black powder weapons as much as possible because i dont think that they would be able to get their hands on that kind of gear to easily, except of course for the exotic traider mentioned above.

The dwarves are going to be armed similarly to how they are in the book, with the full variety of hand weapon, shield and great weapon. I mention a cleric (dnd fans) in the novel as well and thankfully ive already done this model as well by converting a dwarven slayer.

The main image of the shield breaker clan is the "broken shields" which i will post a pic of as soon as my SD drive starts playing for the home team again.

As you know im no stranger to a challenge and ive set myself a nice little target. My cousin has invited me around for a large battle on his brand new battle board during the summer holidays (less than two weeks away) so I am going to get this done by then so that we can begin the summer of glorious gaming by deciding the fate of Stow.

RE: The Defenders of Stow

yeah i realised that just after i took the picture :)

well i stayed up till some point after midnight last night (despite pulling an all nighter after prom the night before) gluing and making a number of combinations of militia and making the last of the halbierders
i havent painted or based anything yet but here are some exclusive pictures of the halbierders with HEADS!

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_1867.webp

i decided to make a small detachment of archers and another of crossbowmen just to mix things up
the rest are just a melee screen but after i made all of the special people like the exotic traider character (who now has a partner in crime if you look at the bottom of this post) and the leader of this force i only have about 7 or so models (the trader and is buddy will have to go with them to add in some extras or i could chuck in the archers and crossbow troops

RE: The Defenders of Stow

Pulse? Hah! We needs no pulse!

Anyway, those models looks very nice. I like all the time you've spent filling in the gaps on the models. I look forward to seeing them painted.

RE: The Defenders of Stow

Well I don't know how long youll have to wait because I now have my unit of dwarves open and I'm starting too build them. I've only made 6 of them so they match up with the shields I've greened so far. Maybe pics tomorrow if your nice hehehe.

RE: The Defenders of Stow

I probably should mention that I'm struggling to think of a colour scheme for the human footsoldiers. So far I'm thinking of black and orange details. With silver metal and for the first time in ages I might use gold! Any ideas?

I'm also working on the dwarves and i've based every model that you have seen in this thread. Woot woot endless fun. Oh wait sarcasm doesn't work here. Anyway painting commences tomorrow.

RE: The Defenders of Stow

ok people ive done some painting and glueing and some more painting but the second lot of painting is just the beginning
it seems that the dwarves have leapfrogged in my list of priorities and suddenly got painted last night (2.5 hours of painting is a real mind number)

well here are the pictures

tell me what you think, ive started painting the halbierders btw
so they might appear at some point

RE: The Defenders of Stow

sorry for the double post but i was a very busy boy last night (not in that way DoN) and got painting my halbierders...

then i finished them!

well kind off finished them, they are battle ready and ill slap them down on the table at my local GW but they might get small touches to add detail

the idea was to make them look dirty and tired, thats why their clothes are all drenched in devlan mud and their skin is very pastey, i think some bloodstains may be required to show they are fighting through a seige

here have a look yourself

tell me what you think (but not in that way DoN)

RE: The Defenders of Stow

Nice, I like them :) Always thought that red on Dwarfs looked good (rather then the rainbow colours GW tormented them with). Also like your bases :D

Now, go make more of those little ones (but not in that way DoN)!

Greetz :clown:

RE: The Defenders of Stow

Eh they are orange...
I'm going to make a few more tonight I couldn't paint anything today since the weather was crap but ill do some stuff tonight

RE: The Defenders of Stow

ok so ive done alot of work since i last posted and here is the pictures

these have all been on the dwarves site (bugmansbewery.com)
but i thought i should post them here as well but if you want to get all of the fluff behind the models youll have to go there since i cant be bothered posting it all here as well

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_1882.webp

i also re-painted the halberders because the trousers looked strange but im also thinking of switching them to spearmen because of the dogs of war rules

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_1894.webp

hey guys its been a while but while in tenerife ive been working like mad on the fluff as part of julnowrimo
so im really eager to get painting on these models, especially the militia
but my halbierders are going to be changed to spearmen because of the dogs of war rules so i cant take them as core rather than a bodyguard for a paymaster

i also plan on picking up an empire priest to make a guy called Lord Cargan of Stow
he is a civilised half orc who has become a lord of stow and wields duel hammers in the battle for stow, he also shows serious talent with a bow but his defining moments are single handedly repelling a bugbear zombie attack on the gates

Well remember I'm playing in a DnD based world not a warhammer one so there isn't any fungi spores involved just good old fashioned naughty buisness
Well I'm back from tenirefe now so I might get to do some painting woot woot
