The Golden Bat Competition – Summer 2010 - Painting: Voting Thread

This is the voting thread for the Golden Bat Painting Category, and this time round we have some fantastic entries.

Firstly I am very pleased to say we smashed previous GB with a record 39 entries!

Below you will find each entry, with the entrants name, what they have entered, follow by the pics.

Guidelines for Voting

Some of you may be unsure of what to look for, so here are some helpful guidelines:

• Firstly, you are NOT judging the model or conversions work. Whilst you may like the sculpt or any extras show the entrants the consideration and respect they deserve, and only judge on their painting.
• The painting does include the based, but only the painting on the base, again not any conversion work.
• Look at the overall scheme. Do the colours work well together, compliment each other, or do they perhaps instead clash?
• Look the athe paint lines between differently painted sections. Are they crisp and clean or have they been smudged / blurred?
• Does the model have shading and highlights? If so how well is it done?
• Look at the thickness of the paint. Is it a nice even layer or is it perhaps to thick, maybe obscuring details?
• On the note of details, how well has the entrant picked them out?
• Finally has the entrant done anything extra special, employed any advance techniques etc.

Following the above should help. Remember you are voting for only for painting, nothing else!!

Good lord! I only wish I could have gotten my entry done in time, however, due to all this personal bs going on, I'd rather be in when I'm at "full strength".

A lot of good entries, I have to say I'm surprised that Bigcannons Vlad has the most votes, I have seen several entries that are painted to a much higher standard with far better blending, Gologuzi osvetnik's – Konrad von Carstein (I really cannot fault how it's painted, Marulla's – Mannfred von Carstein (interesting colors only fault I can see is with the horse), Zer0aim – Vampiress (while I'm not keen on some of the colors it's painted t a high standard and Axia's – Varghulf (the only fault I can find with it is the fur on its back).

Looking forward to seeing your feedback. I'm actually a little surprised with how the voting has gone as the models I thought would have done well, haven't (I include my own entry in this following feedback received from fellow enthusiasts). It'll be great to see what a GB prize winner has to say!

I also agree with Logan, personally for sheer technical skill Gologuzi osvetnik's – Konrad von Carstein would've made a truly worthy winner. Everything about the model seems perfect

Your looks pretty good U_M, I think the only fault I can find with it is the skin around the head and the chest, the rest looks very good, Personally I'm not a fan of the skin tone but I don't their is actually a correct way to paint Vampire skin as such.

Well it was bloody hard, it took me ages but I finally settled with Gologuzi osvetnik – Konrad von Carstein. The pure skill and clean lines to that model just grabbed by attention.

What I can't believe is that I have somehow got 3 votes :O I mean my models don't even come close to the others!!

DoN your entry was pretty damn sweet! What both my girlfriend and I really liked about yours was the mist. We both thought it was quite innovative. I've made smoke before using wire wool but never mist. Might have to try it!

What I can't believe is that I have somehow got 3 votes :O I mean my models don't even come close to the others!!

That can either come down to your perverted followers having a soft spot for your painting (although you'd think that after all you've put us through, there'd be no soft flesh left) or it's because it is an effective unit. It's simply done, not over-complicated, and very effective.

Having said that, I went for the Vlad ... that guy must be some sort of nine-armed painting monster! It's freakin awesome!!!
