Hey guys, just a small update now that I have slowly returned to the hobby. Attempting to swap over to AoS.
So changing swords for spears and changing to round bases.

I have finished my test model for the new batch of skeletons that I am working on and I am really happy with him. Compared to the skeletons I painted a year or so ago I think it shows how I have improved as a painter.

I have tried to make him look much more realistic this time, with a much more liberal approach to washes. I have also used a turquoise paint to make it look like the metal on his weapon and shield has been oxidised over the years.

As always I appreciate comments and criticism!

Cheers.

Following on from my previous post, I have finished all twenty of my skeletons.

And here is the command group.

I'm pretty happy with them. I'm liking the colour scheme and once I had settled into a pattern they were pretty easy to paint.

If you are interested in how I am happy to post it up.

As always comments and criticism is welcome.

@The Gunslinger The bone looks nicely aged and dusty, great work. The verdigris is a nice touch but try to focus on putting it in areas where it would develop, such as around the rivets and deep areas.

I like the colour scheme, good work :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried to do that for the rest of the batch. I was worried it would be too much turquoise with the shields, but I think you can tell the difference.

They seem like a cool bunch! That blue/turquoise shields and details together with oxidized weapons will create a really cool, dichromatic effect - various shades of blue & various shades of brown - that would make for a really striking effect! Also, seconding Farmer's advice, put the verdigris in the recesses, and it would look amazing :)

Thanks again for the feedback guys.

This month I am working on a unit of 20 skeleton archers I managed to pick up on ebay.

Getting all nostalgic with the older skeletons.

They will be painted pretty much the same as my warriors, maybe with some slight changes to separate them a bit.

Looking forward to see the finished archers! Are you planning to give them any command unit or such?

Thanks mate, they are coming along nicely. There is a command unit in there, you can just make out the pole if the banner, and the guy holding the snake is my horn blower. I will get a picture of them up together soon.

@The Gunslinger I love seeing skeleton units going through the stages of assembly to completion - my favourite infantry in the fantasy world! Keep em coming.

Mine too, such great models. Good thing too, considering I'm going to paint another 40 at least!

Whilst I'm working on my archers, I have also started looking at a general for my growing army. I love the idea of a mounted Wight King, but I really don't like the existing model. So I guess I have no choice but to make my own. So here is the start of my conversion, based on the mounted Mannfred model I have had for years, I am hoping it will look suitably impressive when finished.

So making some progress on my wight king today.
The first steps were to remove Mannfred's head and arms. Plus the spirits coming out of the cape.

and obviously stuck the horse together, having to use greenstuff to fill in the gaps because fail cast

@The Gunslinger I'd never thought of converting Mannfred into a wight King, I can see this turning out nicely though!

Thanks mate, I'm hoping it will look great when finished.

So I have tried to remove the bats on his cape, very fitting for a vampire, not so much for a wight king. TO cover up the mess I made I have green stuffed some more fur onto his cape, to match what was there. Let me know what you think.

I have also started work on the head. As you can tell, my army has a slight Tomb Kings vibe, because they are Lahmian vampires. So I wanted to make my wight king look suitably Tomb Kingish. Hence the fun crown.

Carrying on with my Wight King, Today I finished covering up the damage on his cape.
IMG_4877_zpssjntsfnq.webp

Decided how I wanted the crown and head to sit, which I think works as a Tomb King's crown.
IMG_4876_zpsiwh4jyrl.webp

And found a suitably cool looking sword arm to use.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Finally finished my Wight King. Really happy with him.

Attached his head, and gave him a fur collar to hide how it doesn't really fit.
IMG_4882_zpsmryhpkut.webp

Used a regular skeleton shield arm for his left arm, again had to hide where I removed Mannfred's arm before. Going to use a tomb king's shield for him.

And here he is completed. I need to order him a new base, but other then that ready to start painting.

Very Nice WK! I realy like the blend of TK and VC parts in your army!

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

Now that I have finished my Wight King and nearly finished the archers, I have started work on 20 Zombies and a corpse cart.

I have played around with some fun models in the zombie horde, wanted to break them up a bit.
IMG_4957_zpsos6rm16p.webp

I'm going to try and fill the cart up some more too.
IMG_4958_zpslk9w1saw.webp

I have another 20 zombies for later down the line, but I felt that 20 was enough for now!

Evening everyone,

Got an update for you. Finally managed to finish my zombies and corpse cart.

So first up is my twenty zombies, I painted them the same way I painted my nurgle cultists, which I think works well.
IMG_5037_zps2ebkhjct.webp

Not wanting to just paint 20 boring zombies I had a bit of a play around with some other models, I really like them.
IMG_5038_zpseveqyeww.webp

And finally my corpse cart, I was going to try and add more dead bodies to it but I just didn't have the time or effort, I think it looks good the way it is though.

I like how that wight king came together. Cool looking model!
Thanks mate, I'm really proud of it.
Cool zombies! I especially like the knight with that big oversized hand :) Other combinations are also nice, also a plus for using GW zombies, they seem to be dying out slowly ;) Those big zombies count as normal zombies in AoS, don't they?
Thanks! Ha yea, I like to think it isn't his original hand. I actually really like gw zombies, others always look less shambling horde and more rush you like modern movies. And yea in game terms I would just count them as all regular zombies, purely a cosmetic choice.
