Moved to painting logs.

A very nice conversion. Agree with the other comments, the shield needs some more detail on it. I also think the armour needs dulling down, a bit shiny at mo.

Keep the good work coming.

ok so ive taken all of the previous advice and there is now a better hair colour, the blond is alot stronger
the back of the shield is now white to fit in with a unit of skeletons im re painting to be this guys personal militia (im getting some propper grave guard to act as his personal guard)

good call on that fat shield (that is a wierd phrase) so i think ill take that S design on the shoulder (which i copied onto the cloak) and try and green stuff the S onto the moon design on the shield, probably the shoulder pad too
the shoulder looks a little chunky too

ok guys i know its been a while but i finally painted the edits on the lord of moonlight, i just did it while waiting for a bit of paint on my dwarf lord to dry

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_1902.webp

how does that look?

well it had to happen eventually
i finally made a unit straight from the box and didnt convert a thing!

well here you go

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_2446.webp

its very WIP but any kind of hints would be appreciated
they are supposed to go with the moonlight lord shown above so they are getting a bit of green and white to tie them to Bail Kor and the moonlight lord
i chose to give them some great weapons because all my other units of grave guard get a shield and hand weapon so these guys are going out monster hunting
after this they are getting a black ink wash and then a re-highlighting
the bases are going to be done with rocky snow to tie them to the moonlight lord
and ill post pics when im done

well another layer of paint and another update

here is the latest pics of my grave guard

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_2455.webp

they still need to be based and i need to get an image on the banner but there is a problem in that department, i got a look at them after makingsome dwarf toys like cannons and such and realised that they looked alot like a unit of skeleton spearmen from earlier in the thread so im wondering if it would be better fluff wise to have them as part of the emerald army from "the war of the emerald prince" or keep them as the bodyguard of the moonlight lord.
Maybe i should join the two together...
Maybe the moonlight lord is raising the forces from the war of the emerald...

I must ponder such thoughts but im open to suggestions on both the models and the fluff.

Hey, I like your colour scheme (you'll see how much when I get round to posting my own models) but I bet I'd like it more if you didn't have your camera in Macro mode, I'd have it in the standard mode & hold it far enough back to get clear pictures then crop them down to size, that should get the whole unit in focus rather than just the centre. Macro is fine for character models but has a bad depth of field for larger units.

I like your flying vampire thing, looks good. The colour scheme is nice. I would tone tone down the white, maybe give it a wash and highlight it. Your army has a lot of character and alot of work has gone into it. keep the good work going.

ok news update, i went to GW and picked up another 20 zombies as well as some chaos knights to make me some blood knights
they are perfect models for it
13 quid for five models that normally cost 30-40
they are more poseable as well (having said that ive not actually cracked the box open yet but they are plastic so im going to assume they are more poseable)
all i need to do is make a huge impressive model for the castellan

but the VC is going on the back burner as ive started dwarf force and im doing a bit of work for dogs of war
im basically trying to make a few orc units for DoW after reading the Stan Nichols book Orcs and Orcs : Weapons of Magical Distruction

well guys ive started doing some serious work on my dwarves but that doesnt mean i havent forgotten about the vampire counts
for example today i was making the armour to convert my miners too hammerers using green stuff...
unfortunatly i used Waaaaaaaaaaaay to much green stuff and half of it became too solid to use by the time i finished the scale mail it wasnt too hard to make a strange monster creature

ENTER THE FLESH TENTICLE!

ai58.photobucket.com_albums_g266_ironfur_IMG_2536.webp

ill be chucking the rules for this on unit development and i hope some people can lend a hand
basically im thinking of making something that just leaps up from the ground and starts smashing things, maybe its something that helps a vamp count defend a fortress
im also planning on making a couple of sizes for it, so you can have cheaper small ones that can annoy infantry, larger ones that do more damage, even bigger ones that batter about ogres and titanic ones that flip chariots and wreck war machines like they are kindling...

the one in the picture is one of the really large ones that beat about ogres

rules to follow and comments please

so in between meeting famous celebs like dan abnett and launching my youtube channel (3rd ep is in progress btw), i found some time to paint between shifts at my new job
well all right it wasnt painting, more like re painting for the new slayer brotherhood's competition

i re did my giant from earlier in the thread because it was to blotchy

what do you guys think

you may notice his weapon is gone
thats because the weapon broke off in storage and i couldnt be bothered finding it so i did the logical thing and chopped his hand off with a stanley blade!

that bumpy stuff is just modeling putty

it is worth noting that this was all done in roughly an hour or so because i was reminded by bilbo that the painting comp was going on

I really like the pale skin. It has just the right tone to look dead. Plus I think the chopped off hand looks pretty good as well. Hopefully we will see you updating your plog more again?

yeah hopefully

im hoping to make a few zombies soon, i have them sitting in the box and i have some motivation to paint them, my brothers and cousin want to do a 40k version of call of duty: world at war's nazi zombie mini game

so im going to snap together a few zombies and get them painted in time to get the game running before everyone forgets about it

only problem is that i started working, yeah i know, i found a job in the recession, i am that bulletproof :vampire2:

so thats taking up some time but thankfully i get my weekends free (whenever im not learning to drive that is)

nanowrimo is over for another year...
oh yeah and I won with a typically dwarfy Shieldbreaker Novel

does that name sound familiar?
well it should do because its all that I go on about here in my own little world.
So with 50,000 very warhammer-y/dnd-y words written I think its time I went back too the source of my inspiration don't you think. But I should warn you that just because the competition is over that the story is finished. I may get a bit tagental (that happens at my old age) and go off to write something. But it just means that I've had a great idea and that it will probably get chucked into a model at some point...

Well lets get back to this whole "painting" thing shall we? I have a day off of work tomorrow so I hope I can get some zombies that ive been brewing for a while ready to stumble out and bite something before the day is over. Probably just a few but its alot more than I've done in the last while...

*carrying a torch and big hammer*
You see this my friends, this was once what was known as a thread, a place where people could discuss things, offer comments and ideas to one another. But look at it now, dusty and covered in cobwebs, undisturbed my any man, woman or child for years!
This place was once a hub of activity, posting was as regular as clockwork of the creator's thoughts, his ambitious dreams and glorious triumphs. But then something terrible happened to the thread.

*someone else*
what happened too the thread?

*looking back to someone else*
Life.

ok so now thats out of my system i want too thank anyone who is still checking on this or who has it bookmarked, you know ive been so busy with firing bolter shells, creating videos, writing for electronic magazines (doomseeker plug for the win) and working I feel I havent given you guys much to sustain your eternal lust for pictures and random-ness.
Well I can no longer stand by while people who subscribed to me wither like a hollywood starlet!

Feast little children of the night, for I have great works instore for our people!

Between writing for The Doom Seeker your Button Fatory Jim videos when are you finding time to model and paint. Did you stop sleeping?

It's a nice conversion. Liking the mound in front of the tombstone, are you going to over the top the base and put a skeleton or zombie hand popping up from the mound.

At least you have some Work in Progress for this one.

I see you have used the vampire face from the Corpse Cart, but how come its all the way down there? And why have you put a zombie head on his shoulders instead? Is the world falling apart?

But well... yeah... He looks nice though. You have captured the feel of movement pretty well and he interacts nicely with the base. When will we see him painted?

I really like the conversion but the zombie face looks weird...The dynamic aspect of the whole model is kind of offset with the face this zombie is pulling off haha...

As an aside, I really like that zombie giant. Nice skin tone; what colors did you use to make that great pale color?

@thedarksheep: its a necromancer face (know thy bits) and its going to be painted brass to make it EVIL!
trust me it will all pay off

@seldoM: the necromancer face would require a hood/cowl which would mess up the aesthetic of the model, plus im going to try some lighting technique with the eyes that will make it worth it

spray painted the model tonight and ill start painting it as well soon, wip pics are probably to follow (maybe even tonight)
