RE: The house of P - Modeling and Painting Log (10-31-08)
Have you done very much hair work w/ GS? If so then your good to go. I've just recently tried to get into making it myself. Very different from the armor I have done before. If you have any good sites to find some hair work let me know.

I'm not going to lie, the reason there have been no updates is because I have been playing Fallout 3 and Gears of War 2. Too many games come out this month!!
I finally sat myself down today and did some plasticard and putty work on the sword. The putty on it is still pretty rough as I am waiting for it to dry, and will be refined in the final version. Here is another WIP. Last thing I need to add will be the horns.

It looks to be a real sturdy sword too. A lot of the time people will GS and change something to make it flimsy and weak. You've made something that could swipe some poor souls head clean off and enjoy doing it.
RE: The house of P - Modeling and Painting Log (11-11-08)[Vamping Out Begins]
It's from an old high elf standard. I will post the finished sword soon, hilt and everything. But I'm off to the gym for now! I'm going to buy some acetone while I'm out too, had a little superglueing accident, hehe.

Does the dragon on the armor have a tail too? It would seem like it be pretty cool to add one in their especially since you've added the wings. The sword is a good size too. Not gaudy but not a weakling either. Definitely a sword who has some magical ability.
I just finished the third and final layer of putty work on the sword. It's in my sculpting oven at the moment. I think it turned out really well, I will post pics once its fully dry and I do the final bit of cleaning.

Sounds good to me. Exactly how long does the sculpting oven cut off the curing time of GS? I have been interested in creating one for myself but is it actually worth making?
RE: The house of P - Modeling and Painting Log (11-11-08)[Vamping Out Begins]
It cuts it down by a lot. Something that would cure in 24 hours can cure in about 2 in an oven. Just be careful with the bulb you use, nothing above 20 watts or you will warp your putty due to hot air pockets inside the putty itself. The oven is pretty important if you do a lot of sculpting or if you are making a mass of molded pieces.
RE: The house of P - Modeling and Painting Log (11-11-08)[Vamping Out Begins]
I hit a little snag, the combination of the head and new sword makes the arm pose look really awkward (the sword kinda slices into the hair). I think I am going to have to slice off the sword arm and sculpt a new one or atleast a section of it. Other than that it looks pretty nice. Good thing I did a test pose before I glued the thing together and went to filling and putty work.
Here is a very early WIP. It is not glued together so you will see gaps (it is being held together by pins). The sword and cloak are not attached yet.
The head swap was a pain in the butt. It didn't go a smooth as I thought it would. I had to do a lot of bending on the hair, and I ended up damaging a section of it. I will have to correct it with green stuff. I have spent so much time on this model already, and I haven't even begun to paint it yet.
Any suggestions on how I should base him? My army base theme is a graveyard in a desolate wasteland.
RE: The house of P - Modeling and Painting Log (11-12-08)[Vampire Lord WIP]
The sword is done. Here is the requested Tutorial for it.
1.) Start with Eltharion's Sword and cut it where I marked it as follows.
2.) Now file down the spots I marked below. File the black parts so its on the same level as the blade, try to make em sharp and pointed like blades. The red part needs to be a little higher than the black part, so don't file it down as much, just try to get it smoothed out, removing all the gems and engravings.
3.) The piece you have been working on will from this point on be called the "Blade Piece".
4.) Now take an Empire Greatsword bit. I used a plastic one from the Mordheim box set, but the metal one would work as well. Cut it along the lines I marked.
5.) This will be referred to as the "Hilt Piece".
6.) Drill a hole lengthwise through the Blade Piece and Hilt Piece and glue them together with a piece of rod (or a paper clip straightened out).
7.) Take the Dryad Head bit that looks like an antelope. Cut and file it down to look something like this.
8.) Note that you will also have to file it down thickness wise. Make it thin enough so that the plastic behind the eyes starts to become see through. This will be referred to as the "Head Piece".
9.) When all three pieces are placed together this is how it should look. Note: Do not glue the Head Piece on yet, just put them together to see how they fit together.
10.) Now for some Green Stuff. Green stuff the Hilt Piece along the blade, so that the piece just before the handguard is at the same level as the little raised triangle in step 2.
11.) While that is drying, take some thin plasticard and cut it in the general shape as the one pictured below, use your Head Piece to make sure it is the right size. I drew the general shape of it on the plasticard. I glued another plasticard piece underneath the piece with the drawing. I cut them both out using a hobby knife, and filed em down to smoothness. Take the hobby knife to separate the two glued pieces and you should have two identical "Crest Pieces". You will have to file off the glue as well. Sandwich the triangle and hilt piece between both Crest Pieces. Don't cover the handguard piece. Glue the Crest Pieces in place and Green Stuff the gap in between, creating a solid crest. You will need to straighten the handguards, if you used a metal greatsword this will be easy, if you used plastic like me, it will be a little trickier. Take a hair dryer on low setting and lightly blast the handguards and straigthen them. If you use too high a setting you will end up warping the handguards, so be careful. Take any spiked shape thing and cut the tips off (I used a chaos terminator lord's arm and used the tips of it's hooks). Glue one of these tips on each end of the handguard to emulate a beak shape pointing towards the blade. Take some more Green Stuff and cover the end of the handguards leaving the tips showing. Poke two dots on each end for eyeholes. Glue the Head Piece onto the Crest. This was a long step but you should end up with something similar to this.
12.) File and Green Stuff what you have now until you are happy with it. I used Procreate as it is easier to file down.
13.) Moving on, take the tips from two skaven tails, make sure to choose pieces that coil around, really anything that looks like a coiled horn works. Glue it to the Head Piece and make sure it coils around the handguards. Green Stuff or Procreate the piece until its nice and smooth. It should look something like this.
14.) Use putty and filing until you are happy with it. The last thing you need to do is to find an end hilt. You can use the piece from the greatsword or you can use another piece entirely. I personally chose a bit from the Dogs of War Giant's box. Here is the finished piece.
