The Invocation Strategy Guide

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
(this thread is also in another forum however has also been moved to here also as a duel area subject)

Same as the title.
What I am trying to do is help out all our newer additions to VC and some of the older also by helping in strategy, tips and information on any given army and how to combat them.

Now this will be a monthly regular contribution, here I will encourage people to come forth and ask about certain aspects about armies etc.
Each month the most frequently asked, the most interesting and the most bazaar questions will be answered.

What I would like for the time being however is for people to come forth and start suggesting what they would like to see and what they would want to see answered most.
I will be taking Suggestions all week and come End of February you will with a touch of luck (can't answered everything without a much larger column to write in ) see you name mentioned in the mag along side your question and with any luck a few different answers which I have or will test out myself before offer up to yourself.

I hope the replies will come thick and fast, lets see if you can keep me bussy and away from my painting board for a few days.

Sounds like a good idea to me! I am going travelling for a few months in March so I'll be sitting this one out, but look forward to reading what we have when I'm back :)

LIzardmen are a bone of contention I feel. They not only have the magical prowess to outclass us in that area, but their troops can outmatch our own, even our GG. Finally their cold bloodied means they suffer less from the psychology.

LM are really tough, that would be an interesting break down.I'd be interested to see a comparisonal study between the CC/Magic or Hybrid Lords.Examining what their philosophies of war and optimized builds mean in regards to army composition.

Someday I want to play against Lizardmen, just never had the chance and from what I hear, it sounds like a good thing.

They are a ridiculously solid army, and Slann are disgusting.

I would personally like to know how fight chaos demon armies, everyone seems to take tzeech sorcerers and flamers with khorne troops and it just drives me nuts, not only do they own the magic phase but combat rarely goes in the favour of the undead and i was just wondering if anyone has anyideas on how to overcome this combination?

Lore of light. THen laugh as you vaporize flamers and other isolated units. Bloodletters arent THAT good, they just have killing blow... And hatred with a herald.

Other then that, not much else to say.

Yep, fight fire with fire... if they want to play with khorne and tzeentch holding hands, then you run in with undead wielding powers of the light.
IT MAKES SENSE I SWEAR!

I got a good friend of mine into the hobby and he picked up a lizardmen army, at the time I was so excited... but now it's like, why couldn't he have picked ANY other army haha.
Lizardmen really are the bane of undead, but they're not unbeatable, you just really have to watch where and how you place your general on the field, 'cause they have so many items that can really knock your magic phase around, cupped hands, calm ruination and then the Slann is just a beast when it comes to casting spells.

Skaven have always been difficult for me to beat. I haven't ever racked up a single win against them. They can out-horde us, and the 8th edition rules have been nothing but music to their ears. It would be nice if there was an Invocation guide to downing the Rats.

Until he reveals that he has the banner of sundering, rendering the lore of light caster useless. Has happened to me and it totally wrecked my game xD.

Just like we put in the book yesterday!!! No lie... i honestly think it was a typo when the Forbidden Lore said you couldnt take Life. I really thought it should have said Light.

in all reality it probably should have said Life, Light, or Fire.

All 3 are notorious banes to the undead

Exactly why you take them. You counter your own weakness by mastering it.

Oh, in gaming terms? Yeah...

Ok I think I can safely say Lizardmen is what people want to crush.
Dirty, Dirty Lizards with high toughness and stupid power Slan priests...... :Vampire1:

I do not have a huge wealth of experience against them so I am arranging a few games and looking at them in depth army wise to see what they can do, what I would do using them and which horrible things you need to watch out for and how best to give'em a good kicking. :devil2:

Now going from that what to people want to really see the most, what give you trouble when you fight it?
Obviously Steg's but apart from that.

havent faced lizard men yet, but i too find skaven to be really annoying :mad2:
my friend plays skaven and i havent won a single match against him, or even come close to winning :'(
he is an experienced player though, so i cant just blame his op army for my losses.
but i would like to know what sort of tactics to use against them to even the odds, their magic especcially seems just insane...i still think wither is the best spell in the game (even though i dont have experience of every spell in the game)
and how to beat their units of 10000000 rats with steadfaststubborn etc? :P

2x rank flank charges, turn that stubborn leadership 9 into leadership 5 modified by combat res and see how they hold up, then have something that can run fast to chase their units down :P

Afraid this wouldn't work. You can't disrupt steadfast (see p.55 first paragraph) and stubborn units are always considered steadfast, so they'll still get to test at coldblooded ldr 9 :(

While yes i just read that you cant break steadfast, this is skaven, so they loose their leadership bonuses for having ranks (as skaven's depends on the rank bonus the unit has).

There is nothing we can do to make lizardmen fail their tests :(
