Ooh, I like this army I now understand your plant comment in my Plog, there are some similarities between our armies it seems.

I really like how your Vargheists turned out, also the Necromancer looks fantastic :O Great painting!

Just an idea, I use tea also but if you want some variety try using some unused tea for a much darker colour and also some green tea or other varieties if you are looking for some variation in basing colours.

I'm back. As usual, I'm quite busy with many other hobbies, so this plog is growing very slowly. I still don't play Warhammer, I'm more in 40k, but maybe I could dedicate more time to Warhammer in the near future.

I just have this WIP to show, a Vampire Lord : the Mistress of the Ivy Caslte herself !

I named her Hedera de Brisis the first time I wrote a piece of fluff on my blog, but I'm not sure of the name. Of course I still have a lot of sculpting work to do.

I particularly like the scheme you used on the Varghiests.

It's tough to tell with my colorlblind eyes if the skin is green or gray. Do you mind sharing how you did the flesh and the wings?

They are grey. I painted the skin in two ways. The base is the same :

1) Codex Grey
2) Black wash (Nuln oil or diluted black)

For a skin like the stone :
3) Several dry brush with a mix Codex grey + White. Add more and more white until you're satisfied with the highlights.
Tip : I don't wipe all the paint on my brush like I use to do with usual dry brush. I keep the brush loaded with paint that I let dry a little. This is perfect for this stone effect.

For the living skin :
3) Several layers (no dry brush, use diluted paints to avoid the stone effect) of Grey + White. Add more and more white until you're satisfied with the highlights.
4) Several glazes of purple and/or red. This add colour to the skin, like the stone comes alive while the blood of the Vargheist flows in the skin.

I use the same technique for the fur, I just apply less highlights and more shade to have a fur darker than the skin.

And for the wings :
1) Blood red (called Evil Sunz, now. Mephiston red could work)
2) Black wash
3) Highlights of Red
4) A few highlights of Orange
5) Optional : drybrush with grey to add a stone effect to the wings, like the Vargheist is not totally awake.

I hope this could be useful !

Just a quick update with a Banshee. Nothing really original, except the green corset. First I thinked to paint the hair with a blue-green colour, like the dress and the face to keep a etheral feeling. Finally I decided to try the red-head scheme and I'm quite satisfied with it. I think green and red fills well with the army.

I should add tea on the base to match with the rest of the army.

And suddenly... Fell Bats ! Or Gargoyles as alternative Fell Bats.

Yep, ghouls + wings from Tyranid gargoyles, nothing special here. Railings comes from the Garden of Morr scenery kit, cut to match the bases.

I'll probably paint like the Vargheists, to fit with the "gargoyles" theme. It could be redundant, especially if I do it again for the Vargulf, but I like it.


So, I finished my Vampire lord a few days ago, here is Lord Balthor !

I'm not sure about the chain mail, the sculpt is not bad but not great either, so I should paint it darker. And highlight the sword a bit more.

Anyway, I put ivy on every base now !

And speaking of bases, I decided to remake the skeletons bases. The ones with Fimo (first page of this plog) were not great, the wall filler method looks better. So here is a WIP :

Some good stuff here.
really liking those skellies rising from the gave as well, the flag stones raising up with them and they claw their way free of the grave really add allot to the models.

I must have somehow missed this last update cause now that I look at I see how awesome that vampire and banshee is, so much that I have to comment on them.

The red hair on the banshee is a very awesome spot colour, I'm starting to think that I will have to paint my banshee's hair red too.

The vampire also have very cool colours, I especially like the sword, it looks very interesting, being highlighted so much more near the hilt. I also like the freehanded detailing around the edges of his shoulder pads. A really great idea and well executed.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the vampire from the coven throne, as I really like that figure and want to include it in my army somehow but don't want a coven throne.
