The Legion of Deathrose blog (Got heavy update at the weekend!)

So, I'm quite new here, but that doesn't actually limit my changes to start blog about my undeads to motivate myself in a painting.

The whole "fluffy" idea of my army was originally build around a vampire lord with lore of shadows and frostblade. I just have had terrible problems against new High Elves as my current "playmate" was a hard HE player and the start-dragon came out. Well, nothing seemed to work, the legendary heroes of 6th edition (Blood Dragon Lord, Chaos Lord, Bloodthrister) Just wept in tears as the dragon showed it's mighty T 7 butt towards my evil guys.

Then, it seemed that there is coming a new armybook - for Vampire Counts! I designed a very risky and totally insane vampire lord to even try to deafeat the allmihty Stardragon. Fortunately I didin't never get to use this combo, and I have buried that lord build to the ground.

But well, I had enough time to write out some fluff around this terrible lord-choice, and the idea popped to my head: How cool would be mostly Skeleton/grave guard army with a winter theme? And background of icy skeletons whose has been rised to fight again from their icy grave in the bottom of a lake.

Well, my force contains a lot of zombies and actually anything that you can find from VC armybook. But the icy winter theme is still here, and I'm still writing down a fluff about "the Legion of Deathrose" after some cool games. If a character dies; so be it, I'll continue the story some other way.

But well, yeah, there are some exeptions to the colouring of the units. MOstly it pops up in characters and so on. I have decided to butmy Blood Knights mostly red/golden for an example (they are still BLOOD knights) And my Wight King Agravain is painted in gold/green/black. Though I'm not satisfied when it comes to his mount.

But well, enough of my shitty English talk; let's get it started.

And my infamous Skeletal Phalanx unit, I can always be sure that these guys are doing some heroic in the game, I made the whole unit from assembling to painting in something like 8 hours, so that may forgive the crappy paintjob there is, but it is enough for battlefield, and the assembling is the thing on this unit; TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL

Okay, now is the turn of my first painted Blood Knight (Still WIP in this picture actually), spent a quite bunch time on him:

Well, I got pictures of some witch hunters and I'm posting them here (even tough this supposed to be devoted to undeads, but I haven't photographed my ghouls yet, so you can fap to these while I'm working on that.) So, some guys from my retinue.

I like how all of this looks. The blood Knights are really unique and have a strong bloody feel to them, the grave guard have a rather nice looking banner, and the skeleton phalanx have awesome poses. What I think the wight's horse needs is just a more careful and planned paintjob as opposed to just doing everything in green, but the rest of the model is great.

The words "blue skeleton" sounds ridiculous to my ears but you've pulled it off! they look awesome. Love the Blood Knight conversion too. The "other-worldly" green works very well on your Wight King aswell as the great blood effect on his sword. Looking forward to seeing more.

Your Skeleton Phalanx is SO awesome! I love all of the poses, especially the unit champion. Great job!

I'm not sure what you should do about the Wight King's mount, but it definitely doesn't look right. Perhaps you should try re-painting it with a solid coat of grey or white and then give it a few green washes. That may achieve the ethereal look you were going for.

I love the little conversions you have throughout this army. And the big conversions too, I like those.
The skeleton fillers are really cool, very 'heroic' looking, if that's possible for artificially reanimated corpses.
I'm not sure about the Blood Knight. He seems a little too hunchbacked to actually be able to fight with any sort of effectiveness. The blue skeletons also doesn't really work in my opinion. They look like they all have frostbite, but being simply bone makes the effect lose well... effectiveness. I think if you wanted to give the army a 'cold' feel you've done a great job without making the bone blue as well. Right now they're positively drowning.

Two mods already replied to this post and failed to see the moderator formatting that Racfaul de Morduar used in his post? o_o Anyway I have edited the post. Racfaul, for future reference the red and bold format such as this is for moderator / admins only.

Anyway, on to your models. I think the Blood Knight looks very nice, the winter theme you have going on there looks pretty good. The blue-white skellies look unusual but still quite nice.

The green Wight King is......well too green. The colour needs breaking up through either some more detailed shading or highlighting, or maybe a different colour.

I would also note that whilst blood is good :devil2:, you can have too much of it, and there seems to be a lot in some of your models. I would perhaps try and tone that down a little, maybe reserve for champs or characters to make them stand out more.

Well, thank you guys, and I have tried to take seriously your comments when painting my ghouls this weekend (except the limitation of blood but thats because they are ghouls). The poor thing is that I didn't manage to get my ghouls photographed yet.

I edited some images of my witch hunter's to the starting post, so you have something to look when I'm still trying to whip my lazy butt to do something very dirty with ghouls and my friends camera.

Okay, I finally got some pictures of my ghouls for you guys. Speedpainted, focusing on the main look of the whole unit rather than independent models. They are core afterall. : D I still would be glad to hear some critique from you, my fellow neckbiters.

Those ghouls look nasty, and in a good way. Your green skin looks different from anything I've seen before, and coupled with the dark red/black gore on their hands and around their mouths this makes for a very nice unit.

Your bats wings are great. They look nice. In my opinion the wight king needs a bit of highlighting to soften its greeness. And the ghouls look reaaly gross, proper ghouls. Nice work.

Thank you again, I think that next weeks goal is to paint some Black Knights, and the rest of the fell bat unit. Who knows if I even manage to get some fully painted units on the field on wednesday and saturday!

However, here are some pictures of my hero-level vampires. The first one is Reuel "the Fool", converted using winged vampire model and hand with chain & hourglass from Empire's flagellant box. used some GS to get more jester-like feeling by adding those things around his neck and hands.

This guy is "Júlian, the bearer of her colours" (BSB, surprisingly). I think that I should paint his eyes with green or blue glow or something, however I'm quite pleased with the standard itself. Converted from random stuff.

That standard is indeed great. Infact I have to go back on what I said earlier and say this banner is your best yet XD. The bearer himself might need some extra work though. The other guy looks nice as well, but I spot some mould lines...
