The New book

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
heh, good to hear all this stuff confirmed at the least :P cheers, munkey!

shame about only being to have 1 model in the army raise skeletons above starting size, but not SO bad... more of a shame that they have to be a necromancer Xo just wrote new fluff to deal with this and now imma have to change it again? ah well...

cant wait to give the book a read myself though, just another day to get through and then its release time!

See EXCELDAMAGE has hit it right on the head. I could've listed every item, every special rule and every nuance about the new book. However that would simply ruin everyone's enjoyment when you get your grubby mitts on your own copies.

Damn it. I was really hoping that somehow, everyone had managed to overlook cross bow men, oh well, at leats we have our banshee screams.

10 slaves for Fear Incarnate and 12.5 slaves for Supernatural Horror.

Fear Incarnate is the one that forces re-rolls of passed Fear tests or does not allow a BSB re-roll.

Have fun with Screaming Banner guys!

Now that combo does sound good.
Thank god we still have blood traits.

Anyway Munkey can you confirm for me please the points cost for the mortis engine and its upgrade cost please.
Not sure if the tombs points have been mentioned already and there is allot of pages in the threads.

Can you post if VHDM charge is removed? I suspect so.

[mod]Warning (in general, not to anyone specific):

Please keep in mind that posting actual point costs, stat lines, etc would be in violation of the forum rules[/mod]

Does this include Skavenslaves Bishop?

They are the only bloodline with named characters, everything else is do it yourself builds and a couple necromancers.....

What about Gashnag,The Red duke, the Fiend of Krudenwald or Neferata herself amongst others? What about Abhorash?

That post got me thinking..... Is this perceived Bias by GW towards the Von Carsteins new? Apparently not. Although there have been many named vampire characters detailed with back stories and histories, only a small percentage of those have made it out of the books and onto the tabletop with actual models and rules. And that subset of special characters has been dominated by the Von Carsteins. I went back and looked through the old iterations of the vampire counts army books and counted up the number and type of special characters that had been fully fleshed out with rules. Starting with the first VC book from 5th edition, there have been 8 Vampire Special Characters. 4 of those have been Von Carsteins. 2 have been Necrarch. And 1 each to Lahmian and Blood Dragon. So fully 50% of all Vampire Characters have belonged to just one of the 5 bloodlines. Even more telling is the fact that of the 4 Von Carstein Special Charcters, 1 of them (Manfred) has apperad in each editions army book. 2 more of them have appeared in 2 out of 3. Throw in the new book, and that goes to 3 of 4. In Fact, Von Carsteins have been the only bloodline to have a special character in each VC army book. That does seem like GW is really trying to push us toward the Von Carstein Theme and play style for Vampires as a whole. In Fact, in Future editions I would not be surprised to see all mentions of bloodlines to be erased(or at there least, be trivialized to the extreme.)

The von Carsteins are the Vampire Counts (i.e. they're the title characters), they're also the most war like. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they're the bloodline GW focus on, they've always been the main characters of the VC story.

Not saying that the other bloodlines are no good, or don't deserve a story of their own (I'm partial to the Necrarchs myself), merely that they've never been the main characters. It isn't even favouritism, I mean that's like saying C.L. Werner showed favouritism and focused too much on Blood Dragons in "The Red Duke".

We all know they lean towards Von Carstein as they were the ones to mobilize the largest armies and go to war time and time again.
I agree though we need so change where they each see a mention, I love the upgrade pack they have but why do the other bloodlines not get them either?
Now they may be the "Vampire Counts" but we have not had a vampire count option in our book for years not, its just the lords these days.

In time they will branch back out again and start to make other things for other families maybe depending on how much attention is lavished on certain things in this edition.
If they sell well GW may say yes, the coven throne was a good idea.... make me something else like that to sell and so the range will expand.

Posting that a Black Coach is 100 skaven slaves is fine with me :D (I don't have the new book yet, so I'm not sure if that is still correct)

Was more concerned about people posting actual point costs as well as verbatim rules copies (which will be removed if posted)

[mod]ALL: If you think that posting something is questionable then please read the forum rules before posting (link in my sig)

I have the book in front of me. It has been removed. It grants rerolls, then, if unengaged, the free move.

Just got the new book and reading it while at work. Plainly put: thank you GW! There's a lot more sweetness than I dared hope for.

Vargheists and Mortis Engine will be on my first-to-buy list, as I think they'll both do well in a 2000pt game, which is usually the size of our games with my fellows.

The new lore is just great, has some really good synergy with units and the Lore Attribute is just an icing on the cake. I'm especially glad they kept the Rod of Flaming Death and Hellsteed as I just had my vampire on Hellsteed ready for painting and converted her the Rod too.

I'll post some pics as soon as I'm done painting her.

Can't wait to see her Raizi. I agree, so far what I have read has made me really happy. No more, doesn't count towards core, glad that's gone. Don't understand the points increase on the ghouls but oh well. Only grip I have is that now I have to re=do my Lord character, Wolfrahm and my BSB, Ashel. Ha but that's okay 'cause I'm liking the new book and units. We now have FANATICS in our army that are controlable, hexwraiths. And lotsa vamp powers that work real well together. Sad we lost the lance but it's okay the other goodies work great. Just finished building my Coven Throne, Isabella and hexwraiths and later today gonna pick up the vargheists and more hexwraiths. Exciting is an understatement. The throne is a fantastic kit with butt loads of detail, now have to paint it. Get to try out the new book on sunday.

Hi everyone im sorry never got around to posting the things i came down with an illness so i've been in bed for some days.

Sorry, noob question...

We have fanatics now? At work at the moment and my book should have arrived this morning.

He meant that hexwraiths do similar damage in a similar way, whilst being far, far more controllable than actual fanatics. I THINK so anyway...

Ah gotcha. Thanks.

So here I'm at my ind. store to buy the book and magic cards. I called last Sunday to reserve the stuff so I don't need to worry .... Turns out the store forget to order all the stuff ... So any member from Quebec city, don't go to l'Imaginaire... On my way to a "official" GW store... :-(

Really good book, I was expecting cheaper core, but you need like 5-6 units of 30 for 3k games! I'm not personally complaining, always happy to have bigger tarpits, and if GW gets more £££ because of it fine, (hey we're Vampire players, we knew we were going to need a fair bit of cash for raising units anyway...)

Love the recover wounds on a 6 rule, trust Phil Kelly to throw in a characterful rule like that... xD

How do people feel about Hexwraiths? They are quite a lot of points for a few S5 attacks, are they worth it in your opinions?

Thank Nagash I still have some Christmas money left, my local store manager is going to be very happy with me this week...

January is a terrible month for me, as I get paid early for Christmas, meaning there's at least 5 weeks between paydays :(

Going to have to wait until the end of the month to pick up all that I want.
