The probability of a calvary themed army?

Greetings,
MY local gaming club has decided to do a AOS event. So thought it would be a good time as any to get into the game. Got to thinking how cool a 100% calvary army would be. Consisting of hexwraiths, black knights, blood knights. Mounted heroes ect... Tho as cool as it sounds to me would it just flop and get ran over leaving a horrible taste for the game or could it contend? I would be facing a large array of different armies. Lizardmen, empire,chaos,orcs, stormcast,skaven. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

if by Cavalry you include a Vampire Lord on a Zombie Dragon and a Mortarch (Mannfred or Neferata)...

it wouldn't be that bad. Also, get 1-2 Vampire Lords on steeds so that you can Spiritblight powerful units.

It's certainly not the worst idea:

- Always keep your hexwraiths in front. If they can charge, good. if not, they'll soak some attacks (Mystic Shield on them)
- After Hexwraiths are engaged in combat, on your next turn, retreat them to one side of the enemy, flying through them to activate their Spectral Hunters ability and then charge in with your Blood Knights. Black Knights must form a protective layer in case you get charged on one side. They can semi-tank stuff and can regenerate quickly with their banner.

- Alternatively, substitute Black Knights with Necropolis Knights and have a laugh as they tear through most stuff.

- Neferata should be your general, since she comboes well with Blood Knights because of her spell and her -1 to Hit radius.

If you can your army shoud look like this:

- 5x Hexwraiths
- 5x Hexwraiths
- 5x Black Knights / 3x Necropolis Knights
- 5x Black Knights / 3x Necropolis Knights
- 5x Blood Knights
- 1x Neferata, Mortarch of Blood (General)
- 2x Vampire Lord on Barded Nightmare
- 1x Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon

This army is quite pricey, but should get the job done. 4 Wizards, 2 Ethereal units, 2 chaff units, 1 hammer unit and 2 monsters in combat. Should be fun to watch =)

Thank you for the reply. To be honest i forgot all about the tomb king side of the death alliance. Always loved the look of the Necropolis Knights so would be a joy to finally have a reason to grab them. To get the list wont be to bad i already have the 10 hex wraiths, zombie dragon and blood knights and one vamp on stead so would just need to grab the 6 necro knights one vamp on steed.and neferata. And best part the whole army is mounted and keeps my dream alive . Now i just need to Waite and see what restrictions the event leader puts on the event hopefully he releases the info soon so i got time to paint up the whole army.

Could work fine, though you might want to skip the black knights. They really don't do much of anything, and pretty much every comp system overvalues them

Yeah, Black Knights are the weakest link in the chain, however, if for some reason you are forced to include them, without disrupting the main strategy (I'd say, advancing in a single block of cavalry, like you see in the movies, V formation and all), you use them to keep your flanks from being overrun and your army stuck fighting without the possibility of retreating - re-engaging.

Just because a unit is weak in AoS it doesn't mean it is useless! Remember what 8th ed taught us: sacrifice, chaff and tar pit.

i absolutely intend to use necropolis knights. been scoring trade sites and local gaming stores that havnt sold out of them trying to score two units of them.

Calvary Undead list is insane when done right.

Everybody wants that double turn so going first is all but guaranteed.

Back up blood knights with a lord on abyssal terror for 20" first turn moves to get them within 6" for a guaranteed charge.

Add in Neferata so they can barely hit back.

To maximize power add in dragon, Tgheist or Necrosphinx

Hexwraith and Black Knights are unnecessary, but they can hold things up pretty well combined with Neferatas aura. You can take a mounted Necromancer for VDM but youre still not likely to kill anything.
