I don't know about others, but sometimes I discover the answers to my problems after spending hours searching for the answer. Then it makes me think, do others have the same problem, would be good if I could share it with them.
So this is what this thread is for. It's for little solutions that you have found that can make peoples lives easier. Could be anything. Things can be added to the first post as when people post them.
Port Forwarding
Basically if you are using a peer2peer download service such as uTorrent, or certain games / programs, you need to have a port open and mapped. But it can be a right bugger to do, especially if you have no idea.
So, some handy hints:
Choose a random port (programs such as utorrent will randomly choose one).
Download this free program: Simple Port Forwarding It is a great program that I use. It will set a static IP if you don't have one (you will need one to forward a port), and then do everything else for you! Just follow the simple startup procedure. The only thing you will do is create a rule in your firewall, which you will have to look up yourself (I can help with ZoneAlarm though, PM me.)
I hope that helps and saves many of you the annoying hours spent trying to manually do it......
