The Carstein Ring gives me some leeway with my Countess to take on tough enemies. Beguile is surprisingly handy too, at my meager S5 at least. The Tomb Banshees are just evil within 6" of my Countess.

This list should be played quite defensive and compact, to make the most out of the Wraiths, Aura and Corpse Carts, and it lacks a fast hammer. (Because of this it's not very suitable for tournament play, as your opponent can just decide to pull back and go for a draw). I have only 2 Wraiths + Banshee in each unit.

Had game against a hard Khorne army. It had 3 units of Khorne knights, 1 Exalted (Sword of Might), 1 Khorne Lord on Juggernaut (2+/4+ save, Rending Sword), 3 Khorne Spawns, 2 Khorne Chariots, 1 unit of mounted Mauraders, 1 unit of Flesh Hounds, 2 units of Warhounds, 6 Furies. 9 dispel dice..

In this game I gave the first turn to my opponent, as we had a hill and some ruins that narrowed the charge lanes towards me. I especially wanted the left hill to continue to block my left flank as I had no chance of winning should he reach my lines without being split up. I've noticed that with the new VC and the shorter range spells, usually you prefer to go second as you'll have less chance of drawing out any scrolls in the first turn. (This doesn't apply to a VC blitzkrieg list of course, where you don't depend that much on magic but want to press your opponent towards his table edge and take away his room to manouver).

Furies where my first priority, as usual. Unfortunately my first spell (on 2 dice) for the game ended my magic phase, but he moved them in behind my Countess' (whom had the Gaze of Nagash) skellies so I gambled and charged them with Dire Wolves. Aura of Dark Majesty did come in handy here when a Banshee screamed all but 2 Furies to death, Wolves killed another and popped the last one, overran into Flesh Hounds. This forced his Khorne Knights with Exalted to charge my Countess' unit in the front without support. I won combat but failed to catch them. The next round I turned and headed towards the combats in the center but kept the Countess within 6", and her Aura forced the Knights to rally on -1, which they managed unfortunately. Also that turn she made a spawn just Ld 9 which meant that a Banshee could take it out with one scream.

Later when my Countess with retinue charged chosen knights in their flank (Danse Macabre) they broke thanks to the -1 Ld (as they had Banner of Rage they didn't autobreak). In this particular game the Aura was more important than extra CR (I even forgot I had War Banner on the Skellies!). Infinite Hatred had meant that I'd had to pursue mounted Mauraders that had charged my flank, which had left me open for a flank charge from rallied knights. Now I could restrain instead. And I don't think hatred is very fitting for a Lahmia Countess.

Oh, in the last turn I moved her 12" so the Aura would let me scream twice on the Chaos Lord at Ld 8, which killed the Juggernaut and put the lord down to one wound, which was promptly taken away by my BSB (striking first with some magic assistance).

Beguile is very fluffy and not particular effective without Sword of Kings or the other vampire swords. But in this game it gave me perhaps 2-3 extra CR as I tended to roll 1's to wound. Reroll to wound a pretty sure thing with the cumulative Aura, forcing test on -4.

Aura of Dark Majesty is a former Carstein power yes, but in this context it feels very Lahmia, backing up the singing girls

Book of Arkhan was the thing that made me able to kill the Khorne Lord in the end (by striking first), as I hadn't used it for the whole game he decided I didn't had it and spent his dispel on other spells. I still like it. I would only go for a power stone if I really felt I needed room for another scroll. But as you see, I have plenty of dispelling power. The twin Balefires is to help protect my small Wraith units (and I don't find Unholy Loadstone to be worth their points). The small Wraith units are toast against Anvil of Doom, but I'm not too worried about Alter Nobles with Hail of Doom. They can be screened, and against the new VC you don't want too many lone characters (Wind of Undeath, the best spell).

I'm not too sure about the BSB, more particular his 20 point great weapon. Perhaps a Sword of Might would fit him better, but it's good to have a chariot torpedo.

Those 15 Grave Guards are also somewhat of a weak link, but when they work, ooooh my!

Summon Undead Horde seem a little meh to me.

I have to say I am suprised you were able to bring back the lahmians. Glad to see them walking around again. How do you use the GG? Are they the middle of you troop deployment or at the flank to give you a more anvil approach? Where do you place the two corps carts? behind/between etc?

I think your BSB is going to be a standard Vampire build for a lot of people. It is retarded that we have to pay 20 points of our BL powers JUST for a GW, but that's just how it is. I'd keep the setup, mabie Infinite Hatred or Walking Death instead of DA in certain lists. With WD and BSB you have +2 CR off the bat, so can take certain units on your own if need be.

I'm still trying to find a GG unit size I like. Been considering 7x2, but then it's sort of a flanking unit, and how often is there 5+ ranks of enemys to plow into? It's hard for me to buy 20 since it feels kind of like a waste to pay all those points for ranks when zombies or skeletons (hell, even ghouls) can provide them at a much cheaper cost. Though since GG are healed the same as the rest of the infantry, they are the most cost-effective to heal up so worth the points you pay. Mabie i'll stick with my two units of 20 I had planned on (GW and Shield unit).

GG goes central between the Skellies, mostly. Corpse Carts go behind my lines, screened from shooting, and they can handle some tunneling teams and small support units.

For the BSB I'm considering Sword of Might instead of Avatar. Better against Forest Spirits and Dryads, in fact better against most units.
