The revamping of my ancient army.

With the release of the new book, I noticed my 6th edition VC army wasn't quite up to specs anymore. That, combined with my love for new models, inspired me to revamp my vamps.

First of all, the model I couldn't wait to get a crack at :

The pictures could be better, they were quickly shot using flash.

Then, models I intend to paint masses off, hence the very simple paint scheme :

Awesome work all around. I LOVE the paintob on your vargheists, and the coven throne looks amazing. If I could offer one suggestion it might be to base some of your (great looking!) zombies on some larger display bases so you can break up the ranks and files a bit.

Great looking stuff, i wasn't too keen on the Varghiest tester, but seeing them all en masse is really quite awesome, however the center one with the white coating on the skin looks way better than the others in my eyes., if you painted them all that way i might even steal the paintscheme

Good stuff. I like how most of the Engines I've seen on this site look like they're made of disparate parts - I can actually see what's going on!

Loving the Zombies too - you're absolutely right, it's not worth making too much effort on them...

Much better with the larger photos. I don't know about everyone else, but *I* personally tend to overlook photos that I have to click to load. I know, I know, SOOOOO lazy, but it's just a pain in the a$$ to have to load them from thumbnails.

I think your zombies are fantastic, and applaud your rapid painting of them! If you can churn out dozens of these for your army, you may soon find a parcel in the mail from me...:tongue:

Next up : some rebased wolves from the 90's, and some skeleton lancers from the same period. Quick drybrush to lighten them up + rebasing.

BUT, id recommend doing something to the horsemen shields.. maybe use some old chaos shields... batter them up a bit??

( you can batter up shields etc by BITING them... its a ols ww2 model makers technique... just chew on them a bit for the dented and used affect --mind your teeth tho).

id also sugest soem colour varaition to them..rusty washes and the like... and of course basing.

LOVING the new stuff you have done... i wasw gonna go ALL GHOSTS with my engine... it seems it would have worked out great!!

Although, since the shields are stuck on, I think I'll just paint the outer rim rusty metal, and add some rust to the knights' armour.

After all, I'm looking initially for a quick improvement on my old collection, to have a playable army soonish rather than latish.

And there are my other armies to consider, which also need upgrades.

With Ogres nearly up to speed and Tk semi done, I'll probably be painting new Empire soonish.

Anyways, the mortis engine is just beautiful, I love the feel of the colors. Everything else looks wonderful too, but the engine is what stands out the most to me. Great work, keep it up!

I love the greens on the thrown and your 'gheists look awesome. If you're painting that many zombies, you could get a can of that army painter spray, such as a tan or a flesh color, and lightly mist the tops of the models. From there, use washes and create contrast; it'll really cut down on the amount of time for the zombies!

Just a thought.

Yellow brown cloth + that blue green skin is a match made in heaven.

Thanks, but that's pretty much what I do, only I use an airbrush instead of a spray can....
