Impressive. I wish I could pump out shields/anything that fast. You are a machine. Congrats on an excellent job, they look great.

OK. Allow me to introduce the lazy painters guide to painting bones. It is simple, fast, effective.

1. Build your Skeleton. It is crucially important to use as many different types of plastic as possible for this (Just kidding)

2. Spray undercoat Chaos Black. If you want to you can touch up the areas the spray missed (though truthfully it is not important)

3. Using a standard brush dry brush all the bone with Bleached bone. No need to be neat or precise just go for it. If it takes you longer than 3 seconds to do each skelly then you are doing it wrong.

4. Using a standard brush wash every inch of bone with Flesh Wash (Oh the irony!)

5. Using afine detail brush pick out the large areas of bone (i.e. legs, arms, skull) with Bleached Bone add a little water to thin it out so that the shading below can show through. Then carefully still using the smaller brush: dry-brush the not so large areas (i.e. ribcage, hands, feet, teeth).

Thanks man, i totally forgot i can do 2 techniques on the same model(*doo!* stupid me ehh?)
I think i will do something like: Scorched brown base, drybrush bleached bone, highlight bleached bone and skull white stuff. OR for the quicker way: Undercoat WHITE!(yes i said it!). 1:1:1 mix of brown ink, bestial brown and schorched brown wash, the rest is what you did. I like to spend a little bit more time on my skellies seeing as i only have 20 and not like 60.

Skull white is standard for undercoating skeletons. I only use black because I don't like mixing inks to get the earthy darkness in the recesses.

My thinking is that the fewer colours you have to mix yourself the better. Keeps continuity up among your entire army.

The base coat red that I use on everything from shields, to banners, to cloth is a custom colour that I keep a mixing pot of. Just so that all my reds match up and yet stand out from all others.

Sorry about the lack of updates over the weekend. Getting images off my camera is made rather difficult by the fact that I have no working USB drives. I have to use another computer which is a lot of fuss when one is trying to build an army.

So here are a whole weekends worth of WIP shots of the third great hurdle: Her Majesty's Axes:

Is that it I hear you cry? Over the entire weekend? That's all you have done?

And I answer you. No! I have been busy with other projects also. On Friday I walked into one of my local GW stores only to see a massive chaos titan under construction on the table. I said that what it needed was a chain maille loin cloth! And so with the promise that it would be worth my while to do so, I ran home and went through my chain maille tool box and made this:

And of course I have a whole new batch of shields being cast even at this moment.

Painting of both Skeletons and shields is currently on hold till I replenish my supply of Bleached Bone paint.

I will have this third skeleton unit finished by Friday.

Wow...impressive.
I, as a Boffer LARPer appreciate the difficulty in building and maintaining a suit of mail, especially one such as the piece in your picture. Nice wok.

*Looks for chinese cooking untensil* Hmmm not sure about that wok Vekarin but that mail shirt looks damn good!

Your army is fantastic, the dedication and hard work really shows.

And can I just say as I sport the look myself, cool long hair!!

I was extremely confused by what the hell the weird plastic poles were doing on the bases (before you add the Skeletons), until the genius of it dawned on me and I realised it was to get the feet raised above the sand.

Also love the Skeleton next to the chainmail, I don't know what a Skeleton looking smug at his work would look like, but I imagine it's something like that.

With all the units so well themed and a colour scheme that effective you're going to have a great looking force :D

You are of course correct in your estimation of my genius. I used to sand and flock all my bases and then superglue the skeleton on top. But the superglue doesn't give as strong a bond as the melted plastic effect of the Polly Cement. So still wanting me skeletons to appear that they are walking on solid dry ground: I use leftover bits of spear shafts (leftovers from converting the morning-stars and some of the axes) to connect foot to base.

OK, so the wife was allowing (in a good enough mood that she didn't need my attention). But she looked so cute wondering round in the new bikini that she just bought and we had a really good bottle of Ale. One thing led to another and there are no finished shields to show you.

So the chaos black undercoat is drying on them right now. We shall see if I can pump out all 48 shields in one day (As well as go shopping for my sisters birthday card/present and post it back to England and buy a new shirt for my job interview tomorrow).
