I've had a little clarification in my life about some of the things that annoy me. I've finally been able to figure it out, and I just wanted to get some opinions here as if to I'm OCD or not...

Now, there's that whole saying that the little things in life are the best, that they make life worth living. A childs first step, the first kiss, finally riding a bike without training wheels, your first car, your first accident, your first fistfight(Ok, to me that was a cool experience :clown:)....There are a whole bunch of little segments of time that have an impact over your life, but in the long run really aren't that important. They a(e)ffect who you are, and what you become.

Now, I've also found the opposite of that statement true. The little things in life can get under your skin in a horribly quick fashion. I've noticed this happening more and more often recently in an alarming increase. I don't know if it's just me becoming more aware of things, or if they're becoming more commonplace....But here's a question.

Am I OCD for noticing all these little things that seem to get under my skin? People not using a blinker, ignoring rules and regulations that add time to a procedure, consistent and excessive cursing, distractions while driving, the verbal abuse of host nation occupants, the complete sexual driven mentality that most of my friends have? So many of the things I'm seeing are so easily fixable with just a 2 second fix. It's stupidly easy to fix, yet people continue to take small (At times larger) risks with startling consistency.

Am I OCD? A little too tight in my shoulders? Do I seem uptight to you guys?

I like rules. I like following rules. In most situations I'm a follower, and I'm happy with that. I like living in a well defined environment. The more I know my environment, the more I know my freedom within that environment. When people break those rules, it feels almost like an affront to me, because I'm doing things the 'Right' way, and they're not yet they seem more (Insert positive adjective here) than me. So I'm starting to question the path I've chosen in following such regulations to the letter.

So, this boils down to two questions. I apologize for taxing Carpe Noctem with such rambling drivel, but I'm curious as to opinions.

Am I OCD for noticing such irregularities with such startling regularity?
Do I seem uptight or somewhat of a rules lawyer? (For lack of a better term)

I've spoken about these issues to one other person here on station with me, and I've gotten some interesting replies. So I thought I'd bring it up to my extended family to see what you boys (Girls/Sanai) say.

I had to Sanai. Don't be mad!:innocent:[/size]

Good rant. Completely agree with you about the blinkers. I curse a fair 'effin bit though. You're not OCD though. I think with most of society though, they just don't care.To most people I work with, its a case of they don't get anything for doing the right thing, so why bother doing it. Don't get me started on being overtaken, whist doing the speed limit... Maybe they got jobs early, and basically did everything they could to be an adult, now they don't like the responsibility so they are trying to be kids again? Think I've gone off topic here. But yes, society is sexually driven. Just look at the shi...music videos, even listen to them, on MTV. And then there's also the parents at 13yrs old. WTF! I sure as hell wasn't having sex at 13. Again, think I've gone off topic.

I like rules and regulations too. I hate being arounds those that don't follow them though. It seems like their trying to be better than you (not to be arrogant, but I'm better than most people I work with), so, I've lost my train of thought...
Its weird to put into words. But, society has basically gone to the dogs

As long as I know there's one more person like me out there, I'm golden. I didn't put this in the 'Beast Within' section because I knew this one could be kept civil and noninflammatory with very little effort; thanks for showing me my judgement wasn't wrong.

It's just...grah. Lately they've all been cropping up, and it annoys the heck outta me. Thanks for the reply.

Funnily enough I have noticed in the past year I have been getting very particular about how things are done. To me it is not being odd, it’s just how things should be done in my eyes. Quite selfish perhaps, but then it’s not as if I don’t do it myself.

Most of it boils to respect, and how others act. I detest when I speak to people, come to an agreement, and then I stick to my side and they don’t stick to theirs.

Perhaps it is something to do with getting older. Don’t get me wrong, I can be quite laid back in some respects but in when it comes to people doing things I expect people to either get it right or try their best. If someone has just been lazy and not bothered or not cared, it does quite aggravate me.

In regards to swearing, I have got to admit I swear quite a lot. But then so do most of the people I work with, no one is really getting insulted. If there was I suppose I might try to curb it more. I don’t generally do it to people I have just met or don’t know though.

Little (and big) things that get under my skin-

-Being in a debate, and the other side daring to argue against me when I know, and any one with common sense should know, I am right. Even if it is a class debate and they have to do it. I cannot help but be irritated. Especially when their arguments are wrong, illogical or not well researched.

-Being proved wrong

-People not indicating on the roads. Especially when they do a u turn or right turn around the roundabout without indicating at all, forcing me to slam on the breaks.

-People honking their horns. Here in australia, the law states you may honk your horn to alert people of danger. You being an impatient asshole honking at me, the poor L plater who is following the road rules and giving way to traffic to avoid crashing and dying, is not alerting people of danger.

-Dishonest "friends", you know, those people who wont tell you they have a problem with you to your face. A true friend stabs you in the front.

-People who think they are better than me. Yes, some of them probably are better than me, but at least I am humble and considerate.

-When people use non secatur arguements, attacking you or your presentation of a point instead of the actual point itself.

-God botherers, religious fanatics, and religious weirdos. They give us normal christians a bad name, and we have to live with the flak.

-Scientific types who assume that they are superior because they lack faith. Your belief system is just as illogical as ours.

-Me ranting and going off topic

-My crappy painting, and the fact I need a new brush because the current one is a bit split and gets paint where I dont want it

-Super glue, no matter how hard I try, I always either
1- Get it on my fingers, then it hardens and annoys me
2- glue something I need to the desk.
3- I got it in my mouth the other day, yetch.

-Alot of pet owners. FOR PITIES SAKE STERILISE YOUR ANIMAL! If it has babies, they often get abandoned or dumped at a vet clinic, and possibly euthanised there. Also, sterilisation removes organs that can get badly infected or cancerous etc, and makes the animal generally safer and healthier. Also, do not under or overfeed your animal. It is so obvious when an animal is morbidly obese or emaciated, dont say "but hes happy like that" or "I didnt notice" or "i cant affored to feed the animal". You are either stupid, cruel, or both. If you cannot afford to keep an animal healthy, DONT KEEP THE ANIMAL!

Also I find it annoying when people leave lights on (i feel like I am under a spotlight all day, and it wastes power. Let me have some natural shade!), and I hate it when people put dirty dishes away. Thats just disgusting. Clean them first.

sorry bout that rant, but its been quite a day. Two litters of kittens got brought in to the vets, and will need rehoming, there was a 69 kilo newfoundland dog, morbidly obese, with knotted, matted, tangled, filthy fur, and the owners refused the offered grooming. I had to help lift the poor dog, and its breathing is so laboured under all that fat.

It's called getting older.

Most of those things shouldn't annoy you. If you're going to get annoyed at something, pick on the larger issues, the important ones. Yeah, they didn't use their blinker because they're an idiot. Don't let it ruin your day.

Constant swearing, sexual overdrive, these are definitely not 2 second fixes, and there's nothing inherently wrong with them. If something annoys you, question why it does annoy you. Why does not following procedure to the letter annoy you? Is the procedure there for a good reason, or is it just paperwork that has little bearing?

I've found that when I truly question things to a low level... there is not a lot of right and wrong. Except blinkers. Always use them! The miss even uses them driving around a parking lot.... at 5km/h...

Yeah I know where you're coming from Oni.

I get really pissed when people don't use their blinkers. Especially when I'm waiting to make a turn on a road with a bunch of traffic, and a possible chance opens up... but... one person is coming and they wait until the last second (or simply don't) use their blinkers at all. I then have to wait several more minutes.

I hate the "pedestrians have the right way" when taken into the extreme. People walking out in front of cars expecting them to stop... when the car is at a point it'd have to pretty much hit the brakes hard. Also when someone is crossing the sidewalk VERY slowly at a stop sign... or groups are. They never pause for a second to let a car through.

Also people (usually young, and mostly girls) walking several people wide in a hallway talking... usually walking slowly. When you say "excuse me" or squeeze through or around they give you this horrible look and/or comment. This also just applies to people walking very slowly in hallways and such, and again I mean VERY slowly in my eyes. It drives me nuts as I naturally walk fairly fast.

Edit: Also forgot. Pick-Ups and SUVs. I hate these vehicles normally, but I've found the drivers of these often have some sort of attitude like they're better than everyone else, and they automatically get the right of way. They also pull up ahead of you slightly so you can't see past them when trying to turn right.... BAH!

Also the lack of common courtesy these days.

@Oni, DoN

We've had a few threads like this lately. Are we getting to be cantankerous old fogies?

Me? Cantankerous old fogy? Bah, Swiss! I'm only 22! I don't wanna be old yet! Don't make me throw a tantrum to show I still have the capacity to be a child. :frown:

I'm turning 19 in august this year, and am currently 18. Anyone over 20 is old and decrepit and needs to be euthanised..

Just kidding...

maybe...

*holds syringe full of poison behind back and grins*

GODS! So many comments about "thats when happens when you get older". Im only 19! I don't indicate when in a parking lot, granted the only time I'm in there is first thing in the morning, at work. Another point though, people who have their headlights on in the middle of the day. And those who don't when in early evening. Both really annoy me. And people who cut in front of you at traffic lights (like this morning). I was going straight, he wanted to turn right, the lights were red so I started to slow down, the green (YAY), so put my foot down and he changed his mind and then cut straight in front of me! Grrr. (For the US people, the guy would be turning left) Must have been an Aussie driver....
Hahahaha. The worst thing though is when you have just straightened and organised something and then someone comes along and messes it up! Generally, customers and the meat case. I work in a Supermarket butchery, and this is the worst thing. Literally, five minutes will pass and the whole side of Scotch fillet steak will be lying on top of the Eye Fillet.
But, I remember my first Playstation. It was one of those little things, but it brought so much happiness. At the moment, sort of like my kitten. He cheers me up when I get annoyed with my 360

Considering my physical state and age I should be taking into an alley and be shot?!:O There are much more interesting things that could be done in dark alleys you know...errr yeah but back on topic.

It's not so much about being grumpy, getting old or being OCD about stuff it's all about solipsism. You behave in a certain (usually polite and societally responsible) way and you expect others to behave and think the same right? Wrong!

Now that's solipsism kids(you darn youngsters wanting to euthanize me :P ); you cannot expect every human being out there to share your behaviors and thoughts even though they make sense to you and possibly millions of others as well.
It's better to expect people will behave like unadjusted monkeys because it leaves you less frustrated and truly appreciative when somebody does behave correctly.

It is very normal to fall into this trap though and almost everybody I know swears, sighs and rolls their eyes in annoyance at others, God knows I do too and some days with me are like a war zone where I tell off others to "behave already".
You should be near me when I open and hold a door for somebody, even though I'm handicapped myself, and I don't even get so much as a thank you. Even worse; when they don't hold the door for me when they clearly see me coming, cane and all, and simply let it fall in my face. Shmokhs...

It's also not OCD as you simply notice stuff like this; setting down a chair somewhere and waiting for it to happen and then go "ah-ha!" IS OCD however (note the word Compulsion in there).

You can all do that, while I will turn up dressed in black, but with my skin covered in glow in the dark paint. I will short out the lights and run naked around the place.
