This Thread is to discuss the characters for the Legion of Nagash only!

Ok - so following on from the old decisions here are the character choices:

Lord Choices:

Dread Lord
Master Necromancer or Master Liche ( please state which name you prefer - especially since we will NOT be using the Lore of Vampires)
Revenant

Hero
Wight Lord
Nagashi Captain
Necromancer / Liche / Acolyte (again please state)
Assassain

**********************************************

So that was what was previously agreed and I see no need in going back on that.

So now Stats / Rules

Dread Lord

M 4/WS 6/BS 0/S 5/T 6/W 4/I 5/A 4/Ld 10 (As stated by Nihilus)

I think the above stats are fine, tough but not like a vampire with high WS / I

Magic - I personally thing that the Dread Lord should only be a Lvl 1 - he is not a trained wizard but more innate abilites. Nihilus recommended Lvl 2.

Equipment:
-Hand Weapon
-Shield
-Full Plate Armor(4+ armor save)

Special Rules:
-Undead
-Wight Blades
-Terror

Options:
Great Weapon……………………………….................14 pts.
Exchange shield for additional hand weapon………….12 pts.
Lance(if mounted)……………………………...............18 pts.

Mount(one choice only):
Skeletal Steed………………………………..................21 pts.
Barding………………………………..............7 pts.
Hellstead………………………………..........................24 pts.
- Choice to ride whichever monster mount is decided for Nagash's Legion

Magic Items:
Common/Nagash’s Legion
lists up to a total of………………………………...........100 pts.

Again by Nihilus - I personally thing all the above is great, the only thing I would add is:

Total Control: Any unit that the Dread Lord joins may march move if the normally cannot, Alive! units become unbreakable, Undead units suffer one less wound from CR if applicable.

So that's the first character - Comments please.

the only reason I recommended Lvl 2 was because the correlating Lore of Dread had pretty high casting level spells, preventing him from actually doing much in terms of casting. If the casting values are dropped a bit, then there should be no problem with this.

I understand, however I do not think the Dread Lord should be a powerful spellcaster, that is what the necro's etc are for, we don't want to be too similar to VC. A wight (which is what he essentially is) is not that magical.

Perhaps he could use the third variant you was looking at - the Rituals of Nagash instead - would fit much better with his fluff?

Agreed, then we need to look carefully at the Rituals, they need to be spells that match the Nagashi and Wight kings fluff rather than just different necromancy spells.

More comments please!

Dread Lord...............250pts.

M 4/WS 6/BS 0/S 5/T 6/W 4/I 5/A 4/Ld 10

Magic:
The Dread Lord is a Lvl 1 wizard and must select spells from the Rituals of Nagash (or in the case of the Rituals of Nagash acting like TK incantations- the Dread Lord may cast one Ritual per turn like a bound spell, at a power level determined by rolling 2D6, in addition the Dread Lord contributes 1 dispel die)

Equipment:
-Hand Weapon
-Shield
-Full Plate Armor(4+ armor save)

Special Rules:
-Undead
-Wight Blades
-Terror
-Implacable Will: Any unit which the Dread Lord joins may march move heedless of march block, or any other marching restrictions. In addition any unit subject to the Alive! special rule will become unbreakable, and any Undead unit will lose one less wound due to combat resolution, if joined by the Dread Lord.

Options:
Great Weapon……………………………….................14 pts.
Exchange shield for additional hand weapon………….12 pts.
Lance(if mounted)……………………………...............18 pts.

Mount(one choice only):
Skeletal Steed………………………………..................21 pts.
Barding………………………………..............7 pts.
Hellstead………………………………..........................24 pts.
- Choice to ride whichever monster mount is decided for Nagash's Legion

Magic Items:
Common/Nagash’s Legion
lists up to a total of………………………………...........100 pts.

An update on the WIP profile of the Dread Lord.
Comments, suggestions?

@Disciple-Just changed the name and wording, but kept the special rule the same. On a side note I think that the rituals need to be looked at in further depth before the Dread Lord can be finalized. Unfortunately I don't have much Nagash fluff :( so I'm not sure how fluffy the current rituals are.

Yahoo - Someone else!

Interesting idea there Voltaire.

So these priests would be the hero level wizards and I assume they use the Lore of Nagash, and presumably have the low level stats of a hero wizard.

Was you thinking of any appropriate special rules for them?

And would they be dead or alive?

I share Disciple's enthusiasm. In addition the cultist profile I came up with bore heavy similarities (magic wise) to the Liche Priests. If you'd like to use it as a template be my guest.......

Master Cultist…………………280 pts.
M 4/WS 6/BS 4/S 4/T 4/W 3/I 5/A 3/Ld 10

Magic:
A Master Cultist is a wizard. He uses the Rituals of Nagash and contributes 2 dispel dice.

Equipment:
-Two hand weapons

Special Rules:
-Frenzy(even though Immune to Psychology)
-Immune to Psychology

Magic Items:
Common/Nagash’s Legion
Lists up to a total of…………………….100 pts.

They most definitely should be dead if they are from the Mortuary Cult. If they will be using the Rituals of Nagash, then the Rituals need to be tailored to bear a bit more resemblance to the Nehekharan Incantations ie staying true to divine intervention. I'll look into the darker Khemrian gods, and see what I can come up with. Although if someone *looks at the pale lady and clears throat* with much more TK fluff knowledge would be so kind as to place there input, it would be very welcome.

I'd make them more like Warrior Priests with a set of bound 'prayers' and a breathe weapon - something to represent the jars of flesh eating bugs those guys normally carry. A level 1 wizard with a breathe weapon is certainly different.

the problem with the master cultist is that he would need to use the Lore of Nagash - otherwise no one is going to end up using it!

And we need to try and not make things too similar to VC or TK.

I like the breath weapon idea - possibly one use only at S4?

You can restrict the number of master cultists in the army to 0-1, and have a maximum of 1 cult captain per 1000 points. Thereby forcing people, if they wish for a heavy magic phase, to use the lore of nagash.

Problem is that we are going to end up with too many hero choices, we currently have:

Wight Lord
Necro
Mortutary Cult Priest
Nagash Captain
Wraith Assassin.

I think we should combine the Necro / Mortuary Cult priest into one, Fluff could be that Nagash picks the most promising priests to go on to learn his lore.

The Priest could then have:

one S4 breath weapon - Scarab Bugs
Is a Lvl 1 or 2 Wizard and rolls for spells off the Lore of Nagash
Can use one of the rituals once per turn as a bound spell
And would also have to choose a Book of Nagash if my idea gets accepted (fingers crossed)

Yay or Nay?

Yea.
Allow him to use one of the rituals as a bound spell with a power level of 3.
Combine the necromancer and the mortuary cult priest.
Keep the breath weapon as one use only.

And seeing as only three of us are taking active participation in this project, as long as Voltaire grants the royal seal.....of couse your idea is in .

Ok I'm liking what we've got so far, the Dread Lord seems fine to me and the mortuary Priest is very unique.

I think the stat for the priest is simple enough, normal basic wizard stat and acess to limited weapon / armour options ( I would not at all) and 50pts magic item allowance? Also is the priest dead or alive?

Next up

Lord Level Caster

First of all - what to call him?

I don't like necro, too close to VC, I think they should be Mortuary Priests who have been chosen by Nagash but with a unique name, I have no idea so suggestions please?

I was thinking of maybe looking back at the old 4th edition Liche fluff, i.e they have been tutoring under Nagash for thousands of years so maybe they should be a bit tougher than normal wizards - was thinking of T4 and 4 wounds. Other than that poor combat abilities.

Upgrade to lvl 4 - 35pts - lower cost of normal due to the intrinsic magic nature of Nagash's legion

May Choose Spell from Lore of Death, Shadows or Lore of Nagash.

Masters of Death - gain +1 to casting roles when using Lore of Nagash

Rituals - May cast two rituals per magic phase at appropriate bound level

Must Choose one Book of Nagash.

Jar of Scarabs - One use S4 breath weapon.

Can choose upto 100pts of Magic items.

Limited or mundane weapon / armour choices.

High Priest of the Nagashi Cult(?)…………………280 pts.
M 4/WS 3/BS 3/S 3/T 4/W 3/I 5/A 1/Ld 9

Magic:
A Master Cultist is a Lvl 3 wizard. He may choose spells from either the Lore of Shadows, Death, or Ngash and may use two Rituals of Nagash as bound spells at a power level of 4.

Equipment:
-Hand Weapon
-Scarab Jar: Counts as a one use only, strength 4 breath weapon

Options:
-May be upgraded to a Lvl 4 wizard for +35 pts.

Special Rules:
-Undead
-Master of Undeath: The High Priest gains a +1 to cast spells from the Lore of Nagash.

Mount(one choice only):
Skeletal Steed…………………..12 pts.
Hellstead………………………..15 pts.
(Monster Mount choice for Nagash’s Legion)

Magic Items:
Common/Nagash’s Legion
Lists up to a total of…………………….100 pts.

Look pretty good.

I would say he would definately have to be undead though, nay to the thoughts of 4 wounds, the again I suppose it might make him too good. The points cost looks a bit steep though, for 205 you get a vampire lord at level 2, I say he needs a point reduction, other than that - ok.

Figured I'd throw these in; wrote them a while back while at uni... need work but you might be able to do summat with them.

0-1 Head of the Cult of Nagash
The big cheese, the head honcho, leader of the cult. In need of a better title. Rules are based on a Bretonnian Prophetess, with boosted stats but no magic resistance. Comparison with Empire characters is desired
Points/model: 190

Code:
. M Ws Bs S T W I A Ld
Cult Head 4 4 4 4 4 3 3 1 9
Warhorse 8 3 0 3 3 1 3 1 5

Equipment: Hand Weapon
Magic: The Head of the Cult is a Level 3 wizard, who can use spells from the Lore of Nagash or the Lore of Death
Options:
- May be upgraded to a level 4 wizard for +35 points
- May ride a warhorse for +12 points (You may note the lack of barding. This is deliberate for the non-undead units, as I don’t see the army as having heavy cavalry)
- May choose magic items from the Common or Nagashi Magic Items list, with a maximum total value of 100 pts. May not wear magic armour.

0-1 Nagashi Patriarch
Leader of the Nagashi, descendents of Nagash’s bodyguards and an integral part of the army. Rules based loosely on Bret lord
Points/model: 100

Code:
. M Ws Bs S T W I A Ld
Patriarch 4 6 4 4 4 3 6 4 10
Warhorse 8 3 0 3 3 1 3 1 5
Equipment: Hand Weapon
Options:
- May take Gromril armour for +10 pts, or Heavy Armour for +5 pts. A model wearing Gromril Armour may not be mounted. (Its feking heavy!)
- May ride a warhorse for +12 points.
- May carry a shield for +3 points.
- May take an additional hand weapon (5 pts) or a great weapon (6 pts)
- May choose magic items from the common or Nagashi magic items lists, with a maximum total value of 100 pts.

But why would a High Priest of Nagash have a Voodoo name? I think it is something we need to think more on - however I have just re-read the 3 characters and I'm still happy with them.

Unless anyone else has changes to make I would suggest we move on to the the next character:

Revenant

I've got a few suggestions for revenant:
1. My idea of a Revenant is very similar to the ones in warcraft 3. Therefore I think they should be a type of construct, a suit of armour and bones bound together by a spirit (very fun to make a model of).

reverant.gif

Therefore stats similar to a wight lord (e.g tough, not so strong, not very agile), but a slightly more magical feel- an aura of some kind, magic resistance, and perhaps an entrapment like ability (e.g beguile).

Opinions, these are just preliminary ideas.
