Hey people,

I've not been very active on forums as of late, especially this one, so I thought I'd return here properly, with a new army...

...which is, of course, more VC! I decided to stop my Halloween army, at least for the time being, to attempt something slightly more gory, nasty, and more fitting in with the Warhammer world.
I decided early on I wanted a classic infantry horde, with Zombies, semi-Zombies, Corpse Carts and more Zombies. I couldn't quite settle on a theme however; crazy Frankenstein-ish doctor with his gory experiments, or giving the army a big emphasis on gore and cannibalism in general, or a sadistic vampire who likes to torture and execute local villagers in a big gorefest to raise them back from the dead? I decided for the latter one, partly because it would give me an excuse to think of execution methods for each particular zombie regiment; burned zombies, decapitated zombies, etc.

So, here is the first model for that army; an impaled zombie:) It's, as you can see, simply a zombie pulling the corpse cart, but I think it kinda works:

Zombie front

Zombie rear

With any luck (meaning: if I don't change army AGAIN), more pics and some fluff will soon follow - if you're interested, that is.

So... comments on the idea/model? Any suggestions? Criticisms? Donations? All are welcome:)

I like the idea, interested in seeing how you envision the masses of zombies. Will each one be killed in the same way as the regiment or each individual has a unique way of death?

I agree, it does sound like an intriguing idea! :)

Are we talking purely zombies here, or would you also include the likes of Ghouls and possibly Wolves for Core choices (i.e. other fleshy units :P)?

Sounds like he plans on doing it by unit. I guess he's not enough of a masochist to devise a unique manner-of-death for each zombie! ;)

Great idea. I will suggest that if you keep each regiment to one type of death: impaled, headless, arms/legs cut off, it would look pretty cool. I love the paint job on the one. It will be very cool to see an entire army painted so well. I for one can't say I have the patience to do that much work.

Keep those pics coming. I look forward to the next. Oh by the way, I was going to ask you how much converting are you willing to do? Because for this project the sky is the limit!

More like the (centre of the) Earth's the limit!

: On that note, how about a unit that was buried alive?

You could even have "elemental" zombies!

Burned/smothered in flames (fire), drowned (water), buried alive (earth), umm...death by tornado and/or flying cows (air)?

And of course, the bases should also reflect their conditions...for example, for the flaming zombies (): black charred ground, perhaps with little flames would look cool. You get the idea. :)

Thanks for the replies guys:)

I take that as an insult! *Starts planning several hundred ways in which people can be gruesomely killed*
Seriously though, I would do it zombie by zombie, but seeing as I've got about a hundred in my current 1k list, I'm not sure that I could finish the army in a single lifetime, seeing as I spent quite a lot of time on the first zombie (for me at least), and will probs try and do so on the rest as well.

Ghouls will be in the army as well, yeah; I thought of them as the Vampire's executioner lackeys and his apprentices in the art of torture :) Not sure about Wolves though, I'll see 'bout them later.

@ josef: Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure which banners you mean? Knights/Horsemen banners? Got a link?

@ dictator: Thanks, will take more pics soon. Also, converting is what I enjoy most about Warhammer, so I'm willing to do quite a lot of it:grin:

@ Kindred Bloodslear: Your idea sounds like the ancient Celtic sacrifices:D (Death by air was, for them, simply hanging people; might be a bit more easy to model than death by a tornado - Even though a zombie squashed by a cow sounds rather hilarious). I was playing with with idea of having some buried-alive zombies, but not sure how to represent that... any ideas?

So yeah, thanks again and keep the ideas and replies coming. I'll just stop typing now and start painting - time to get another 4 pts model finished, eh?

One thing that springs to mind would be to have them making their way out of the earth, struggling to break free from their earthen prison. (dramatic, no? Heheh)

As for the rest of this stuff, it all looks and sounds wonderful so far. :)

Lets help him brainstorm ideas for dead zombies! (Maybe each unit could have a different method of dieing, and the command have their own individual ways, or maybe just the champs.)

So far:

1. Beheading
2. Burning
3. Buried alive
4. Hanging

My suggestions:
1. By arrow
2. Drowning
3. eaten?
4. Murder, e.g slit throat.

Like any of them?

Well if you watch the show "1000 ways to die," you would have way to much ideas. At the same time, you could go for the funny too. It would be interesting to see a few hilarious ways to die. Lighting a fart on fire and the zombie actually is catching fire. As long as your mind doesn't take a dump your good to go.

Thanks for the replies folks.

@ MasterSpark: While that idea does go a long way, it's still possible that the zombies rising from the grave could have been dead when they were buried, methinks. Of course, that's not disastrous, but maybe there are more ''fun'' ways to represent punished zombies.

@ Arion: Arrows could be fun and easy, like an execution peloton. Drowning might be bit harder, although zombies rising fomr the water covered in seaweed is a pretty cool idea. Eaten, of course, is always awesome, especially as I wanted to make some butcher-ish Ghouls. Murder, like slit throats as you suggested, would I think be very hard to do, so I'll try other ideas first (yours probably among them, so cheers mate:)).

@ dictator: While there will inevitably be some funny zombies, I'll try and make the majority bit more ''serious'' (as long as that's possible with Zombies of course!).

Anyways, more pics:D I've had some fun drilling a hole through zombies and skewering them like shishkebab on spikes and spears:P Here's the result so far (still WIP methinks, though not sure what to add, except for some severed heads on the standard):

Impaled Zombo

Standard Bearer for the Impaled

Lemme know what you think of 'em. I know they're not too impressive just yet, but I'm also posting these pics to get your opinion on what should possibly be added. So, comments?

Greetz

Me thinks they look awesome.

An idea for the eaten zombies: You mentioned butcher ghouls... What about adding "dead" zombies to the first ranks of the ghoul unit, and having ghouls catching zombies in the last ranks of the zombie unit. Just as if the ghouls were eating the zombies. The ghouls could have bloody aprons and meat cleavers too.

Models look very good and dead, with great character to them. But the bases makes them look like they're fighting in teletubie happy fun land!
Please paint them some darker colour like dark brown, black or grey or just put some grass on them. At the moment there is too much contrast between the evil zombies and the happy bases.

Just my thought though.

@ Dark Sheep: Thanks, and I quite like the sound of that idea, just not quite sure if it'll work out properly... I'll see about that one later.

@ Hardt von Carstein: Thanks, and I hadn't really thought about the bases, but maybe some 'darkening up' would indeed be good:)

Also a small update:

Another 4 pt model painted up!

Some more skewered unfortunates (excuse the poor quality)

It's admittedly not much, but I find that posting pics helps keeping me motivated, as well as receiving ever useful comments, of course:)

Well, I know it's been ages I posted in this thread, but I converted a Vampire the other day and I'll probably use him as the general of the Tortured Ones.

DSCN0100.jpg

I like to think of him as a somewhat deranged von Carstein, powerful in combat but not very influential in the Sylvanian nobility. He has his own small castle (which I have already built, actually xD) where he tortures and kills people for a good laugh, but also to get 'revenge', since he was once nearly tortured to death himself before getting the Vampire Kiss - he still wears the old ragged clothes from that day under his cloak.

I'll probably write it out properly in a piece of fluff one of these days.

Anyway, comments are welcome :)

Greetz :clown:

The sculpted cloak may be a bit thick but it looks really good. I'm interested to see him painted.

If you made a drawn-and-quartered block of zombies, you could put horses at the corners, with a centerpiece of a drawn zombie. Unit-fillers would be fairly easy to make for that.

looks great but like everyone else i want to see this stuff all painted!

that can be the mire pit that armies fall into, all this great conversion work and it never gets a lick-o-paint
BUT YOU WILL NOT FALL INTO SUCH A PIT EVEN IF WE HAVE TO HOLD YOUR HAND AND GUIDE YOU PAST SAID PIT!

sorry my brother has a bunch of unpainted models so this kind of thing gets to me
