I've just recently got back into Warhammer and I've decided to to a VC list with a little flair (though "flair" might not be the best description, you'll see...). I'm planning to do a spider themed vampire army, instead of the regular old bat/wolf combo. I'm replacing the Dire Wolves with Giant Spiders from the Goblin Spider Riders, Bat Swarm with "jumping" Spider Swarm, Giant Bats with LOTR Mirkwood Spiders jumping via dowels, and the Varghulf with the direct order Goblin Bigboss Spider. I will, eventually, green stuff spider faces on the ghouls.

So, the trouble is, I can't decide what powers to give my Vampire Lord (who will also be heavily spider themed)! I want the VL to have a Von Carstein gone feral feel to him.

Here's what I know I want:
At least one Varghulf.
Two units of ten Dire Wolves.

What say you!

I think a spidery vampire should have some of the following: (just for fluff)
Summon creatures of the night (or Summon "spiders" of the night)
Infinite Hatred (He's excluded from the society, so he hates all others)
Hunter in the dark (just a spidery power)
Supernatural terror (A spidervampire has to look scary)

Magical Weaponry wise the Frostblade are ideal for this sort of thing as it could represent the oh so lovely way spiders kill their victims.

"The bite of the Spider was enough to fell the mightiest of dragons to the lowliest of men. Its venom cared not..."

Believe it or not, Black Knights would also be ideal for this project as their ethereal barding it basically the same as the Spider Riders 'move through cover'.

So true: with 8 legs I wouldn't have difficulty too!

You might want to think about that one - because if Dire Wolves will be spiders, how can you justify 'Black Knights' (being spiders) moving through terrain, even though every spider would be able to? Might give them a special colour or something to show they're 'different' spiders... Immediately the name 'Black Spiders' pop up, but I guess you'd like to make them all black...

The name definantly makes me think of spiders! :)

Well, the color scheme I want for the "Dire Spiders" is Dark Orange/Luminescent Blue. The "Black Spiders" would be Dark Orange/Blood Red. The idea behind it would be that the Dire Spiders are empty animated husks, whereas the Black Spiders would be the spider equivalent to vampires.

Me too, comments on that power below...

You're right Voltaire, however Sword of Kings seems like a better choice. The "Black Spiders" have killing blow and the Sword of Kings is more friendly point wise than the Frostblade. Can't have my Lord Character running around without protection!

Summon Spiders of the Night! Excellent, will do.
Infinite Hatred! Hates them and also accounts for the four extra arms the model is going to have, done and done!
Supernatural Terror! My army already scares the Arachnophobes at my local gaming establishment.
Hunter in the Dark!... Well, I have no problems taking this power for fluff purposes and as an intimidation thing (my army is so awesome, I can squander my vampires powers!). I doubt I would really ever use it, unless somebody placed their Wizard Lord behind some trees by himself...

So, unless somebody suggests otherwise, those will be the powers!

Sword of Kings 25pts
Talisman of the Lynci 10pts (must have M9) 10pts

65 points to go...

Maybe Flayed Hauberk and Dunce Crown?

I think the accursed armour might be a good choice, can't imagine that a spider would have great weapon skill and the extra toughness would fit in better than a 2+ armour save.

The Bloodrinker sword could be another option as well, simply explained by the spider having a light snack whilst killing its foes!

Can't imagine a spider with a great weapons skill? Jumping spiders are extremely accurate creatures! Besides, accursed armor sucks... Anyway, its a Vampire that is spider themed, not a bloated orb-weaver thats vampire themed, see what I'm talking about? So, the Vampire could, in theory, wear magical armor that gives 2+.

Blood Drinker is definitely an option.

i dont have the AB yet, so i cant really comment, but i cant wait to see what this army will look like!
only suggestion i cant think of is definately ghouls. in my mind they would be sort of half-spider creatures (to explain the slower movement), their 2 poisoned attacks is very spidery in my mind :)
