Hiya,

I realise this bug report will be incredibly unhelpful, and I apologise in advance. But I was just wondering if anything new has been added to the forum recently, because things are going wrong that usually don't posts not appearing, for example, and very recently a fatal memory error, cache errors happening quite often, things that didn't happen a week or so ago.

If there is anything that is running that wasn't, perhaps that's the answer; if not I'll keep an eye out for any more errors and try and get some more specific stuff for you guys. Again, sorry this is so helplessly unspecific.

Darvy

Hey Darvy,

I personally haven't noticed anything wrong with the live site.

The out of memory error you just had was me doing some testing on the demo site - they are on the same VPS and so draw on the same resources - Sorry for that xd

If you can be more specific as to what problems you are experiencing then I can look into it, but nothing has been changed on the live site in the last 3 months.

Cheers

DoN

I suppose it may have just been you being sneaky on the test-area. (Why do I imagine cars with dummies inside smashing into brick walls as the test-area...?) But this just happened now.

Yep that was me again.

I have been speaking with our host. They have noticed some issues with server load, though they are not sure why. They are currently carrying out some tests and optimisation.

I have a sneaky feeling there may be something wrong with the testsite. It has always loaded much slower than live, I wonder if the server configuration for it has something wrong....

If I find any more I'll be sure to post them here. Glad to bring the matter to light.

I still imagine the test site as being filled with big yellow hazard warning stuck onto crash-dummies...

Nah - the testsite is actually an exact mirror of the live site. Whenever I refresh it, everything is copied over, including posts etc.

It means that I can then test new coding, plugins etc, make sure they are working before implementing on the live site. Whilst I would love to take credit for the thoroughness of this idea, it was actually Grish many years ago who talked to me about this. Even when Grish disappeared for a while we have also kept in touch via email etc, and he has given me many excellent suggestions to stop me breaking CN xd

Why does the idea of you breaking CN make me laugh so much? :rofl2: It's the word "breaking" I think... not causing errors, or taking the site down, but just "breaking" it. xD

Trust me, it has actually happened many times.xd Luckily my paranoia over breaking CN means that regular backups are taken (automated backups by the host every 2 hours to a remote server), so when it has happened a can at least restore back pretty quickly.

I have also recently found that most other forums that use our software don't use a testsite. This has meant I can offer CN's testsite to other authors for testing, and in return get them to do some free coding for us.

:rofl2: The image of DoN frustratedly whacking his computer with a big sign on the screen saying "CN is broken" will never leave my mind. xD

You've actually broken CN? Many times? Here I was thinking you infallible, DoN.

Surely your perverted mind would've thought to turn the lights off...? Then it doesn't matter what they look like; heck they don't even have to be human once it's dark.

Some changes have been made. I would appreciate if users can monitor and let me know if they think the site is running worse / better etc.

Marked as solved for time being.

I've had no problems with it today at all. I will also mark it as solved seeing as you didn't quite manage to, DoN...

A certain page now loads incredibly slowly for me: it's the OOC thread for the Legion of Frost. It goes about one mile an hour and doesn't even load the random quotes... is there any reason for this, or just random?

I'm not sure. I have noticed loading issues myself, but this may be due to a changeover period.

Lets see how the site is over the next 48 hours. Please report all problems in this thread and then I can decide what to do next.

Haven't noticed any loading issues, although I dno't have good internet at home (piggy backing off an unsecured network).

@DoN:
Do you have any idea if your site has any 'hard pointers' to the new site?

Example, any idea if there are links going to http://www.vampirecounts.net so that when you use the test site, it's crossing over to the live site?

One way to test that would be, if this is possible with the host, to have their hosts file (if using windows, doubtful) to point www.vampirecounts.net to some bogus IP address so it can't find any of those resources.

Cheers

Just wondering if you were testing, DoN, at around 8-30pm London time today? (Tuesday 31st)? I got a couple of 502 Bad Gateway errors here and there.

Ah, well as long as it's just you muckin' about with your forum test-dummies then I can't see any real problem, unless swapping isn't too much hassle. xD

* wistful sigh* Typing "hassle" reminds me of our lost Hasslehof Banner... no chance of 4+ regen for Vargheists now. :'(

Grish - I think you was right.....again xd

Recreated the testsite, and when updating the settings I tweaked the address settings slightly. The demo site is now running at the same speed as live. I will continue to monitor for the time being though xd
