Thread Under Construction, Army Under Construction!

Hi, this seems like a forum with some really cool pictures and info about people making unique armies, so I wanted to start sharing my stuff!
I'm totally new to AoS and I am planning to make YouTube videos about my army from square one to completion!
However, I couldn't wait that long before seeing if people had cool ideas for me to add in - so I thought I would start posting stuff, it would also probably help encourage me to paint faster.
Probably I will edit the first post a lot more later to make it more organised and interesting. But for now I just wanted to get it started.



So, here is a weird Necromancer I made using skulls from the Mortis Engine, and a familiar model from Heresy Miniatures.
Has anyone else ever used this model? I think it's really fun!
It is around a 50% complete paintjob, why did I already start basing it? Well because I'm scatterbrained and silly.

As you can see I am still learning painting!
For comparison of the size, here is another Necromancer I am making:

Really I doubt I will use him in a game, but he's nice for fun display with the army!

And I have to work on all this!

I'm trying to think of a good red colourscheme for ethereals, and I want to add like occult symbols and runes and stuff on many of the ghosts, and carved or tattooed into the monsters flesh!

You can see I began the Vargheists but have a lot of work to do:

Of course I am very late to the party with all these modern models, but just in case anyone other than myself didn't find out yet, the Mortis Engine comes with parts you can use for making some Banshees too if you make it into the Coven Throne instead!

So be welcome, and hopefully we can hold and/or increase the first impressions you got here, there are truly some unique armies gathered here - yours will add up nicely, judging by the mini necro dude. He already looks cool, grumpy enough to raise some dead just for fun Maybe some matt varnish to reduce the shining effect, but I like what you're doing there with your minis. Keep it up.

I like what I see! Imaginative use of models and some basic painting techniques used with a little care can get you a long way - I should know, that's what my entire army is based on! Great to see someone using Heresy Miniatures, one of my favourite small miniature makers

I agree with Theerteen, I find a spray matt varnish helps even out the look of my armies, for me the best is Testors Dullcote.

Cheers guys! Yeah, I need to still do a lot of work on those shiny boys, I need to learn and get better at highlighting and stuff first though! I'm practicing on skeletons and zombies. It's frustrating 'cos I wanna make them awesome NOWWWW but I gotta watch a lot of tutorials lol.
I think this forum is awesome there are so many armies already for me to look at, and some great variation!

I do really like the Heresy range of stuff! Plus the packaging and service seems really good each time I use them! I got those three succubus models I'm trying to find a worthy Vampire Lord to place them around leisurely lounging lol.

Recently I'm trying to make cool random scenic pieces not so much for play, but I guess I can use them as objective markers of grave site markers and stuff.

Next thing I am aiming to work on is a classic Black Coach! I always wanted that model and never had one! But I promise on the bones of my ancestors I'll paint like a madman this month and get these rascals into some BATTLES.

My first 'finished' model! It's a Reaper mini I'm gonna use as a female Necromancer.

Slowly getting the hang of the basics, working on some Dire Wolves now!

Hopefully I can get these done, then some Skeletons and some Grave Guard, a Vampire Lord and finish the Vargheists and have my first 1000pts painted and ready to start playing the game! Can't wait!

Thanks! Already even just after a couple of weeks practice, I have learned a lot of things I was doing wrong! I am really getting into this stuff I think it is now my main hobby in my spare time.

Getting better with the basics, still working on the wolves!
Next I am planning to use the trick of fishing line snippets covered in blood for the blood god paint, to add some hanging gore from mouths and stuff!
If anybody has advice, I am trying to understand a good way to improve highlighting for the leathery skin!

My camera is bad, but you can almost see I have layered the reds in the muscles and stuff, I think the wolves will be done by next week! I want to also drybrush the fur some more lighter colour at the tips and things like that, advice is very welcome!

Great necros, I like your colour choices.

Those wolves also turned out well.

I'm not the best painter but I guess a tip would be have a theme for your army and perhaps the bases to help tie everything together.

I got some stuff I have been working on!
I'm trying to get assertive with myself and make myself socialise more in this hobby, because I find it hard to be social but I really need to make friends who play these games to talk to!

I finally got a Black Coach, lemme tell ya, I have wanted one of these since I was like 12 years old!

I thought hexwraithe horses would look cool and maybe more fancy!

I started my basing theme when I was still learning, so I am a bit worried it is over-simplified and not detailed or interesting lol, but I think maybe later when I am more skilled, I can add soil patches and tufts too.

Eh, the model itself is gorgeous, but alas the rules for it are not that great.
the worst thing is that even the battalion tied to it, with the 3 units of spirit hosts, is totally disappointing. I love spirit hosts and if the executioner could give a bonus to them, that battalion would be amongst my fav. picks, but it is not so.

Good call swapping out the steeds on the black coach too, they look more suitable.
