I miss the good old Tomb Kings. I think they were more fun with 6th then 8th imo. One thing I found that worked right before End Times, and then End Times amplified it with the undead legion. Were chariots, and princes/kings with chariots. No one in my area expected the tomb king chariot buses. Setra made it even more funny. I destroyed death stars that used to scare me, like 50 high elf white lions. They were to know the average charge range on the mounted units. It was heck of fun, but I think a one trick pony tell people figured out a hard counter.

Sixth ed TK was definitely more fun for sure. The 8th book really struggled to keep up with the others although it was ok against Orcs which were an early 8th release as well. I only managed to beat people because of my experience but as they got better I just couldn't win.
Sixth was so much fun and very balanced. That book had so many neat items in it; Armor of Ages, Collar of Shapesh, Icon of Rakaph, Flail of Skulls....those were the days!

I also liked the hierarchy casting order from 6th. It was in an odd place as pretty much everything was just a bound spell. Very thematic though. TK was a causality of the power creep of 8th since it was one of the earliest books.

Yeah I agree. The 8th book for Khemri was good in terms of versatility and rules but overpriced. I disliked the way the community treated the author of the book though, some real toxic stuff.

During End Times I ran skeleton horsemen in my busses instead of Black Knights because they were fast cav and cheap.

You are very right. Robbin Cruddance got a lot of flak over the book. I thought he did a great job in terms of making it a versatile and fluffy book. The biggest problem is I think it was priced for 7th edition. Which is something I did not play and as time went on the new books got cheaper and cheaper. I think the elves where priced the same as the skeletons which made no sense.

the book wasn't bad, it suffered from being among the very first ones of the new edition.
What i didn't like was the fact that it was a book that basically was forcing the players to play in a certain way, pushing heavily the magical phase and the units with bonuses to that.

I tried to play it that way for like 2 years. When I finally just asked about have you guys tried a mounted approach? I was told it sucked. I did some play tests and trial and error. I had found the average charge distance for the chariots, and snake riders, along if they had a speed banner which was 17 inch range. You fail the charge, just use the magic phase to back up and try next turn. I say it still required a lot of magic to work. Using the big block of chariots with a prince/king took a lot of people by surprise. Mixing in entombed units was fun with this idea. I took the slowest moving 8th ed army and made it like a turn 2 charge aggressive army. I think I shared with the Sun King a list I made that actually won a tournament. The undead legion from End Times like I said amplified this. As I had access to the lore of vampires which was fair superior but paired with the TK lore. It was like steroids. I played this very aggressively. Only downsize is people could target the chariot of the prince or king but I think most people tried to just kill him instead.

Yeah I remember that! Do you still have that list around somewhere?
I am not sure. I am sure I can recreate it though. I was going to do the same idea with 9th age. Problem is I couldn't find chariot models I liked that didn't cost me 30 US dollars or more a chariot. This was before 3d resin printing started to take and look amazing. Hence why I decided upon the wood elf vampire army idea as I finally was in a position to do it.

I found one of the prototypes before I evolved it into using Undead Legion. As it took, a lot of persuasion to be able to use it in my area. Since people didn't like Tomb Kings marching, which was odd, since no one had to go through the hoops I did with the book that let all the Elves merge together. Funny this was just all tomb king list and can be adjusted but it was what I pretty much based nearly all the lists off. The wizards hung out in the rather large horseman bunker in an attempt to keep up. After trial and error, you could probably go with skeleton archers or warriors as a bunker instead. The chariots turned out to be enough shooting to clear most chaff off. Later versions I ended up just keeping 1 liche priest around and ran around with 2 blocks of 5 chariots with near naked Tomb Prince's instead. When I was able to use Undead legion, I supplemented the 1 priest with a necromancer with lore of vampires. Oddly enough never needed a vampire, as the My WIll, WIll Be Done carried it's wieght and made the chariots elites.
