So, for a change, I want to try out a fear list. I regularly play Skaven and Beastmen so I've got a chance of getting it off, my other regular opponent is Lizardmen, which will be difficult but if I CAN get it off then the look on his face will more than make up for the investment of points.
I do have access to a Terrorghiest but wanted to try a list without it (even though the scream synergises well with Ld debuffs) I feel I’ve overused him recently so figured he can have a holiday so he was swapped out for the unit of Grave Guard.
So, the list:-
LORDS
Vampire Lord: Level 2 (Death)
Sword of Strife, Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield, Heavy Armour, Lance, Barded Nightmare, Red Fury, Dreadknight, Quickblood
HEROES
Vampire: Level 1 (Death or Shadows)
Hand Weapon, Shield, Lance, Armour of Fortune, Aura of Dark Majesty, Fear Incarnate
Necromancer: Level 2 (Necromancy)
Master of the Dead, Tricksters Shard
Necromancer: Level 2 (Necromancy)
Dispel Scroll
CORE
20 Skeleton Warriors – Full Command
20 Skeleton Warriors – Full Command
20 Skeleton Warriors – Full Command
20 Zombies
Special
25 Grave Guard – Sword n Board, Full Command
10 Black Knights – Barding, Lances, Full Command, Screaming Banner
Total: 1991pts
Tactics should be fairly straight forward, Skeletons and Zombies will form the main battle line with the Grave Guard as the anchor unit. The Master of the Dead Necromancer will (hopefully) buff each of the Skeletons to 25 or 30 as soon as possible, and the Zombies as much as possible (ive got enough models for the unit to get to 60).
With a bit of luck one of the Vampires will generate Doom and Darkness for more of a Debuff but if they don’t its not the end of the world, they’ll already be taking tests on 3D6 at -1 rerolling any passes (or not getting any rerolls if the BSB is in range). So hopefully the Black Knight bus will be able to force a few failed leadership tests. Obviously the Lord has to issue/accept challenges but if they fail their Ld the 7 attacks against WS 1 will pretty much mince anything and add some nice overkill dice to the CR.
If I thought my opponents would be gullible enough to ignore the Black Knights and run headlong into the battle line I’d be tempted to deploy them on a flank and then run them into the side of a unit once it had engaged the line. As it is, I suspect deploying like this will be best:
[Sk1] [GG] [Zom] [SK2] [BK] [SK3]
So hopefully wherever they hit on the line I can swing a unit into a flank charge.
What do you think? Could it work? Anything I’ve failed to consider?
