I had a game recently, and i use Hexwraith to pass through a unit already in close combat. My opponent had my randomize my hit and all 5 of them finish by killing my own unit. Was he right in asking me to do so ?? And if not, what are the rules that would explain it to my opponent for the next time ?

Also about the hexwraith, I pass them through cannon and bolt thrower. My opponent said it was like shooting attack and so i need to use the war machine toughness instead of the crew toughness. Again, was he right ?

Do these 2 question are answered in the same way for goblin fanatic and mangler squig ?

Thanks for your help !!

I don't know about the second question, but I can answer the first. Hexwraiths can only move through unengaged units. Doesn't matter if it's your unit, or the enemy's, you can't go through if they are fighting.

Hex wraiths may not use their ride by attacks on engaged units so that point is null.

I'm not sure in their entry if it states that the attack is distributed as per shooting or not, but... per all attacks against warmachines, as you are not "in combat" with warmachine you would test against the toughness of the warmachine and not the crew I believe.

Tactically speaking, you are better off charging said warmachine as the crew will be unable to hurt your hexwwraiths, and you should win combat quite easily.

This is correct. Maybe they were mixing up the Chariot rule with warmachines

Ok what about using a friendly meat shield in front of you and then marching through the friendly meat shield (zombies) and through enemy unit in front - do the zombies take damage? I think (aside from the combat bit) this is what the OP may be also inferring.

I believe I'm right in saying you can't move through your own units at all. Ethereals can move through terrain, but not models. Hexwraiths are an exception in that they can move through enemies but nowhere does it give them an ability to move through friendlies.

Once more I'm agreeing with Chaos Born. You can't move threw your own units as your 'special move' is an attack and you can't attack your own units.

with regards to the warmachine I would say distribute as per shooting but work out what each hexwraiths hit, cannon or crew and test against their relative toughness...ie: 3 attacks on crew and 2 on cannon..crew toughness 3, cannon Toughness X

Afraid I must disagree with you Undead. The crew are used for no purpose other than wounds/attack markers and don't have any actual physical presence in game, so registering hits on them would be impossible.

Also, since the hexwraiths attack is allocated as a shooting attack the toughness of the machine is used just as it is against any shooting attack.

Although I appreciate your agreeable nature recently:)

Lynks will answer all your questions and more! (note, I'm sitting right here with the rules in front of me)

As above, hexwraiths can only move through unengaged units so you are unable to move over a combat.

The attacks from the spectral hunters rule states they are distributed as shooting attacks, so you would use the toughness of the warmachine (thus far better off charging)

You can move through your own units if they are not engaged (it states whether friendly or enemy in the soulstriders rule), however you can only do this in the remaining moves subphase, so no charging through friendly units.

some other points of note, even if you pass through multiple units, you nominate one enemy unit to take the hits. no damage ever to friendly units and only one unit will take damage.

I haven't had a chance to field my hexwraiths yet, but one of the reasons why they are attractive to me is the ability to move through our own units (I spend a fair amount of time just purusing our book on the john :))

This enables them to fairly reliably switch flanks to respond to threats or to react to favourable units if deployment doesn't go in our favour.
