I collect Lizardmen and Dogs of War. I got the new Vampire Counts book and I like it enough to invest in some choice VC for a Storm of Magic pact force.

So I currently have Richter Kruger's Cursed Company and a couple human skeletons for filler. There's my unit of Core.

So I'm thinking of taking the varied approach of the Cursed Comapny towards other units. I had an idea of taking a single plastic units of several armies and putting them on 40 mm bases (representing ghosts of several races). So one might be a clan rat, a skink, and a dwarf while another is a human, high elf, and Saurus. I'm not sure how to convert or kitbash the models to make them ghost-like or what colors to paint a spirit host.

I'm thinking of making my own corpse cart and filling it with bits from LM models (because that's what I have lots of and a Corpse Cart in Lustria would make due with the local corpses). I'm not sure where to get the cart from or what other things I'd need to do to make it convincing.

I'm also pondering undead Saurus cavalry (black knights) and skink zombies (regular zombie stand-ins).

My final idea is to make a zombie Stegadon, put an ash urn and a cairn wraith in the howdah to be a "black coach."

Anyone have any thoughts on getting these vague ideas past the concept stage?

The spirit host using various models is easy;

check out the "how to" tutorial on painting ethereals in the last edition of "The Invocation". Great work there, and it'll make ANYTHING you decide to put on those bases look like they're spirit hosts. There's also THIS thread for inspiration (recent contest) and THIS thread which shows a butt-load of spirit host awesomeness.

You'll have to look at eBay or something like that for bitz (corpse cart frame, etc) OR look on the Auction block here on the site. I've had great luck (albeit with only one request).

Hope this helps get you on your way!

Undead lizzies sound pretty difficult, as they have a totally different anatomy from humans.
If your sculpting skills are up to scratch a undead stegadon would be veeery nice.
The old plastic cold ones might be reasonably easy to "undeadify" as they have very vacant poses and plenty of stomach area to hollow out.

The how-to link just loads a picture of some wraiths, nothing more.

One relatively easy way to represent ethereal units is to add features to the base that they're passing through. It has the double bonus of allowing you to stretch the minis a bit further at the same time.

it's impressive how precise you describe what you want done, and the only way i can see this happening is with TONS of chopping and sculpting, i think the easiest to convert would be the saurus cav, your best bet is to file off some parts and cut holes in them, then sculpt some ribs and a skull with green stuff.

and one thing that is fairly common is that people will buy the corpse cart SOLELY for the corpse pile inside, so there are definitely some empty carts lying around, my best advice is to hang around on the forum and collect some more ideas, and keep up the posting. eventually when you have enough posts you can use the forum's trade center and see if you can buy/trade another member for the empty cart. (i think you need 50 posts to use the auction service)

If you get this going you should definitely post up some conversion pictures!

Something else that might be useful for you is THIS with all the different skull options that could let you work with some of the less major physical appearance differences.

Towards the bottom of the picture of the wraiths should be an arrow pointing to the right... it's the interactive version of the Invocation ezine. Just tap the arrow and you'll be taken to the next page, and so on. On the contents page you can actually click on the description of the tutorial and it'll take you right to that page...

Basically (to sum up the contents of the article)...

*Prime your model black. Once done, picture it in four equal quarters (head & shoulders/torso/groin area/legs).
*Leave the lowest portion (legs) black.
*Paint the top of the model codex gray, leaving the lowest section black.
*Dry brush the lowest section lightly with the codex gray.
*Paint the top half of the model with Fortress Gray.
*Dry brush the second lowest portion with the fortress gray, leaving the lowest portion alone.
*Paint the head and shoulders with Skull white.
*Dry brush the second highest portion with Skull White, leaving the lower half of the model alone.
*Leave to dry, and once dry give it a good head-to-toe wash with Thakra Green wash, making sure it's even. Use the wash straight out of the pot.
*Leave to dry
*Admire your awesome looking ethereal model!

RE: Pondering Nonhuman undead (especially LM), need some pointers

Id go the Luther Harkon/Zombie pirates route. Luther Harkon raises all of his bodies from shipwrecks that wash up on the Vampire Coast. While I'm sure he would have some lizardmen bodies it would just be much easier to do an undead pirate theme. I think someone on here has an amazing zombie pirate army, but as I am on my phone I can't provide the link.

I have some pictures of WIP. They are posted on Lustria-online.

I put up some painted pictures. I still couldn't get the pictures to load on Carpe Noctern, so here's the link to Lustria with the pictures.
