Just start adding champions to some or all of your dog units. Combo charge with them and accept the challenge with the dog.
Awesome idea
I was thinking to create a flank made of 2 x5 Dw on the front and the dragon with 5 hexies and 3 vargs and maybe a SH on the side to create target saturation, a diversion and an hell of psychological stress.
The rest of the army is gonna be supported by 2 Necro,1 lv4,so hopefully u can have a dance to speed up the dudes back there.

I probably wouldn't combo charge with dogs. That's just giving away from CR. Use something beefier like a Black Knight unit or Blood Knight unit.

You could use hexwraiths if you wanted to. Dogs are just cheaper. And if you throw them in dart formation it isn't that bad. Make them one or two wide and then accept the callenge with the champion. That way your opponent doesn't have all that many attacks against them anyway.

Hex wraiths is a good idea.

Just checked the Blood Knights rule, if there is no Kastellan then a Blood Knight is allowed to step up and accept a challenge.

Not sure on the 'challenge' with something else idea - yes it works but depending on what you are fighting you can just bleed CC res and make the situation worse. Maybe a dog conga could work though...

Bleeding combat res shouldn't matter. Your zombie lord on dragon should be able to do plenty of damage to win combat. With no upgrades whatsoever you still have potential to deal 16 wounds to infantry blocks. With red fury that increases to 21. So even if your opponent gets 10 combat res you should still win combat. He'll most likely be steadfast so winning by 1 and winning by 10 are essentially the same thing.

Don't underestimate the power of a zombie dragon. It wasn't till I used one that I realized its true potential.

Yeah,I'll try the dragon ASAP.
However, doing some mathammer, I realized is better to bring a GW in the combat, for the simply matter of having choices. In a case of heavy armoured or tought enemy u can go S7 at I7 with no rerolls, against common infantry,we can use the hand weapon and that is S5 (-2As) with rerolls. Pretty awesome. Than we have -1 to be hit,we give asl to the poor fellas and there is a 5A s6 Ws4 AND d6 thunderstomp s6...
Holy Molly I GOT to try it!!!!!

If you have a GW (or any other cc weapon for that matter) then you can't choose to use a hand weapon

@Henning speaks the truth unfortunately. To get around this just try a lance.

My build is purely defensive since the vampire lord is already a great offensive character. I use the nightshroud as well as the talisman of preservation. All of that combined with the -1 to hit from the dragon and a beguile from the vamp lord makes him super hard to kill.

It's in the brb. It says something to the effect of if a model has a special weapon it must use that weapon in place of its hand weapon. As far as I'm aware black orcs are the only ones who can change because they have a special rule that allows them to do so.

My Vamp Lord on a Dragon probably won't see the light of day (pardon the pun:clown:) until they make them a combined profile. Still too many points to risk to a single cannon.

I use the dragon a lot. Sure, sometimes he eats a cannonball, but we're only playing a game. It'd be pretty boring if I couldn't take the cool looking monsters because I was too afraid I might lose a game of toy soldiers.

Well true. But it is also not fun when your usual group does play with a lot of cannons and rock lobbers and you never see your poor dragon live past turn one.:grave: Deploying a cool model only makes the fun last so long. Getting to charge and fight with said model would certainly expand the fun. ;)

You have a point about the rock lobbers. Not much you can do about them seeing as our base is gigantic. There are plenty of ways to protect you from cannons though. And your hexies/varghs should be on your opponent's war machines turn two. So no more than two rounds of shooting.
