Hybrid Vampire Lords save you points in a Master necro.

You get your Lv 4 for dispels, and get to 2-dice most of what you need from our lore (Ion, Raise Dead and Gaze of Nagash turning a vampire into superman!!!). If you needed to use the amplified VDM or Curse of years you needed a Lv4 anyways to 3-dice it.

So, in essence, I take my hybrid lord to cast the good vampire stuff at its minimum dice, minimizing miscasts and still leeching some dispel dice (and including an extra unit in... Vargheists, or Spiri Hosts, or such, hehe)

I agree to an extent. I do love my mounted lord being able to keep his black knight unit at full strenght through out most of a game. He is expensive with the lvl 4 though. Just make sure he's well supported.

I ran a bus with level four mounted Vamp on barded nightmare, tal of preservation, heavy armor and shield, dragon helm, ogre blade, RF and quickblood. Next to her was my Wightking with Great weapon and Nighshroud. Then the full command. Second rank had Manfred the Acolyte. Nobody in a the tournament or pratice games got her when she stayed in the bus. And lets face it, this is not really a deathstar bus even. Even this 'short' bus was able to eat face. :suck:

Yeah I think we all agree that a level 4 is great in a bus :D

Yes he is. Though my 'bus' is a giant unit of steadfast breaking 5 wide skellies with the swiftness banner and a MR3 carrying WK lol!

I call it the "VC pain train... Next stop, BROWN TOWN!!"

@ eggspr
That's actually a great idea! Breaking Steadfast can be a pain with all those hordes running around. That skelly block is pretty fast and has some nice protection against spells. Good choice!

EDIT: Wait, I think I read it wrong; I can't seem to find a MR (3) banner :P

Skellies hold the Swiftness banner, WK has the Obsidian Lodestone (not a banner) and DBG

Do you have a few cairn wraiths to 'make way' and shove the command into the second rank? Then your opponent has to fight only the vamp lord and WK and the models w/o magic and not touching those two don't get to fight at all. I can see that being super effective.

Oh what is DBG again?

Charmed shield isbetter than dgb in this instance IMo

@Yorga, yes in larger games I run 3 wraiths as well to do exactly that - its nasty!

@Johnny, The charmed shield is always always always on my Vamp Lord, so the WK either gets the DBG or enchanted shield. The look on someone's face when after trying to cannon sniping him for 2 turns i FINALLY fail a look out sir roll... Only to deflect it on a 2+ :). Great for miscast template blasts as well.

I think Dark Acolyte on a hero Vampire might work well when running a BK bus, since you get an additional "kinda-hard-to-dispel" IoN which your opponent might let through in order to save dice for dispelling the lvl 4 IoN from your Lord:thumbsup:

Brilliant write up, been looking on the net all afternoon for something like this. Thanks a billion! :suck:

Did the list building 101 get done or is it in the works?

B.

I have a question about being able to cast Gaze of Nagash. Let's say my casting necro is in a zombie bunker directly behind a horde of ghouls. The enemy i wanna cast it at is in front of my ghouls. Am i allowed to cast it? One player told me i can't because i need LoS on that spell, and since i'm in my bunker, i can't see the enemy through my ghouls. Is that correct or am i correct and still have LoS?

Thanks

Hey, great thread- was wondering if you could expand on what you mentioned RE Zombies being essential with the New FAQ?

I have just had a look through it now- and I don't see anything that makes crumbling any better/worse for Zombies... Have I missed something? :grave:
