i dont think theyre on horses maybe its just the photo but i dunno it might be better to have them ride some crazy steed after all whats nightmarish about a horse? apart from finding its head in your bed after spendin a bomb on it to put it out to stud:D

Ever been in a stall with a scared horse bucking? You'll know what's scary. A horse can hit harder than a wolf, that's for sure. One kick can brain you.

The grey hair you can see on their heads I think is just because they are very hairy (I don´t know the name in english for horses heads' hair)

That´s why (I pressume) you think they are wolves, but I´m pretty sure they are just horses (very evil ones)

and those elves aren´t just old, they are ancient, archeological treasures

Oh, please, I feel like a childish git now...

On regards of unscary horses, terry pratchett style:

"Death had pretty soon stopped using skeleton horses preferring a flesh and blood horse, as he kept having to stop and stick on the bits that fell off"

And thats always been stuck in my mind with the skeleton BK horses, just imagining them wrapped in duct tape trying to hold them together.

Back on topic however, i quite like the models. If the BK models are arse, ill just use those instead, GW have finally got something that looks quite kick ass.

what i mean is that if horses are nightmares than most steeds are nightmares in warhammer but its probly not how GW see it, an in reply to the horses vs. wolves theres no contest wolves could take a horse down easy (crap steeds though)

Better pics of the KoBK. Scroll down to sneak peeks. Hope it's not been posted yet.

Here's what I think:

Red armour = thumb down.

"Head of... what? A fell bat?"-shoulder pad = thumb down.

Poses = quite intriguing, although they look somewhat stiff because of the flat undynamic bases.

Overall = I'm interested, but did I mention the ugliness of the red armour?. Want to posses. Want to paint (better).

Horse Vs Horse sized wolf? horse loses. Horses aren't very dangerous, yes a lone horse in a stable is a problem, however their most dangerous "attack" is their hind legs. remembering cavalry is ranked up, the friends behind you are in more trouble than the enemies in front ;)

Well those pics show that they are definantly horses

Horses are only used because they are the only thing in real life that are feasable as a mount. Their "weapon" is their mass, not their hooves or bite (especially against lightly armoured enemies), really those things only distract you making the guy on top more likely to kill you. Their mass though will run you down on the charge (why I think horses should get +1 S on the charge)

P.S. Hair on horses head = Mane

Took out my long rant of why a wolf can't take down a horse.
Summary: Warhorse is 15 to 20 times the size of wolf. A wolf can't take it down by itself. A horse sized wolf is irrelevant; you can't increase something by 15 times and have the same animal. A wolf that size couldn't support its own weight. If so, I'd be scared of a horse sized spider. It could lift 60 000 lbs.

Wolves are slightly bigger than a dog. Anyways, done talking about this. Just cause a wolf has pointy teeth doesn't mean it can take down a horse. A pack can, but not a single one.

Actually see a jousting horse and a wolf in real life and you'll know.

*Pops out of the shadows

Guys those are not horses as far as I remember, but something more akin to daemonic steeds just with a undead spin.

Well they look better in those photos, but I'm still not sold on them yet.

They look like they're plastic, which I guess will be handy for converting them.

Edit: Apparently they're metal, so they'll be cheap then. *cough*

From manager at local GW store will be about £40 for the regiment!

Zuckuss

Now I can see that the KotBK horses are a bit chaotic in appearance, but they're still horses :)
I hoped for some really stunning models in this unit, but...unfortunately o_O
BTW, have you noticed that the models do not have shields?

:| Well they're going to be a big seller then aren't they. Erm.

£40 for regiment that supposed to be around 5, that is very very very very expensive. Although if the regiment is 5 and costs £40 than that's £8 a model, which isn't actually that bad as most singular mounted models are around at that price.

Still expensive though!

All 3 of the models shown have shields.

As i said on WarSeer, i'm not a fan, and TBH i didn't expect i would be. I haven't liked any Blood Dragon since 5th ed.

If i get the spearhead, these will be going on eBay - but i might keep a horse for my count to ride, they look ok.

£40 for 5 isn't too bad. If you think you pay £8 for a metal character on a plastic steed, and these steeds are metal too...

They'll sell loads simply becuase of their killer rules. Not to me, though. I'd prefer to use 5 old Blood Dragon models...

For what price?

@Veland: actually, all 3 have shields.

Remember guys, the red is because of them being Blood Dragons. Apparantly the Varghulf is a trophy to keep, which suggests the Champion's shoulder head. From that we can infer that the Varghulf is no ordinary beast - maybe stronger than the averaged Ogre-sized creature.

I'm looking forward to all this, which wasn't when the new Wood Elves came out. This gives the army a whole new dimension.

Well, the rumoured march allowance of other units within 6", M8, 4-5 S5 attacks, T5, regeneration and costing almost like a Black Coach is perhaps a better hint than the shoulder trophy ;)

Believe it also has hatred making it a ruthless RnF killer.

£40 for 5....

How exactly are they ganna shoe horn that into a £50 spear head?

Id be more enclined to believe 30/35. but meh.

40 makes sense... they do have uber rules afterall xd

What? Is that a serious argument? This is warhammer, have you seen the spiders that goblins ride? In "real life" they couldn't exist, not only could they not support their own weight, but they couldn't supply enough oxygen through their body. In "real life" a dragon could never lift it's mass on those puny wings. This is warhammer, moreover this is an undead army, horse sized wolves would be held together by magic (same as skeletons and the reason zombie dragons can fly).

Wolves are slightly bigger than a dog.
Anyways, done talking about this. Just cause a wolf has pointy teeth doesn't mean it can take down a horse. A pack can, but not a single one.

As an environmental Scientist I actually know quite a bit about a lot of animals and plants, Wolves being one of my favourite animals happen to be the focus of some of my learning.

I'm pretty sure I never said that a wolf could take on a horse solo, unless it was the same size. Now okay, a horse sized wolf in an unreal comparison, however we were speculating that the mounts of the KotBK were wolves, if this was the case then we were talking about horse sized wolves (i.e. not irrelevant). Now horse sized wolf, in a world where we don't have to worry about whether or not it could exist, would beat a horse. Hell a goblin wolf is evenly matched against a horse in this game, a dire wolf is better than a horse, obviously a horse sized wolf would be better again.

Wolves can grow to approximately 60kg which is probably bigger than the average dog (though there are a lot around the 65kg mark), certainly bigger than the two and a half kilo Chihuahua and definantly smaller than the 90-100kg Mastiff. So perhaps you might want to be more specific than "slightly bigger than a dog" hmm? Surprisingly none of these animals come from Australia, I wonder how I could possibly know anything about them? Surely this kind of info doesn't make it to Australia?

Gee it's too bad they don't sell books in Australia, I'd really like to read about wolves one day... I wonder if I can connect to the internet?

Anyway they are quite obviously horses (either regular or daemonic) as can be seen by the sneak peak pictures. I think this is a good move as the wolves would look a little silly. The horse models themselves are quite good, I think I will be using some greenstuff to make some fire on their hooves and maybe some other areas. A nice green fire will add to the "night-mare" look I think.

The bat-thing trophee looks cool, but it looks a bit like it would be a hindrance to the Knight himself, I think I will try and cut it off and hang it off the horse somewhere. Also The horse seems to have a worm coming out of its backside, instead of a tail (perhaps he ate a Skaven?).

The standard bearer's horse looks a bit like it is curling up into a ball, which is annoying, because I wont be able to fix that.

Otherwise though I like the models, and am very glad we have dynamic poses for our knights, looks like theyre on the charge rather than just wandering about, on a road patrol somewhere.
