Took out my long rant of why a wolf can't take down a horse.
Summary: Warhorse is 15 to 20 times the size of wolf. A wolf can't take it down by itself. A horse sized wolf is irrelevant; you can't increase something by 15 times and have the same animal. A wolf that size couldn't support its own weight. If so, I'd be scared of a horse sized spider. It could lift 60 000 lbs.
What? Is that a serious argument? This is warhammer, have you seen the spiders that goblins ride? In "real life" they couldn't exist, not only could they not support their own weight, but they couldn't supply enough oxygen through their body. In "real life" a dragon could never lift it's mass on those puny wings. This is warhammer, moreover this is an undead army, horse sized wolves would be held together by magic (same as skeletons and the reason zombie dragons can fly).
Wolves are slightly bigger than a dog.
Anyways, done talking about this. Just cause a wolf has pointy teeth doesn't mean it can take down a horse. A pack can, but not a single one.
As an environmental Scientist I actually know quite a bit about a lot of animals and plants, Wolves being one of my favourite animals happen to be the focus of some of my learning.
I'm pretty sure I never said that a wolf could take on a horse solo, unless it was the same size. Now okay, a horse sized wolf in an unreal comparison, however we were speculating that the mounts of the KotBK were wolves, if this was the case then we were talking about horse sized wolves (i.e. not irrelevant). Now horse sized wolf, in a world where we don't have to worry about whether or not it could exist, would beat a horse. Hell a goblin wolf is evenly matched against a horse in this game, a dire wolf is better than a horse, obviously a horse sized wolf would be better again.
Wolves can grow to approximately 60kg which is probably bigger than the average dog (though there are a lot around the 65kg mark), certainly bigger than the two and a half kilo Chihuahua and definantly smaller than the 90-100kg Mastiff. So perhaps you might want to be more specific than "slightly bigger than a dog" hmm? Surprisingly none of these animals come from Australia, I wonder how I could possibly know anything about them? Surely this kind of info doesn't make it to Australia?
Gee it's too bad they don't sell books in Australia, I'd really like to read about wolves one day... I wonder if I can connect to the internet?
