Is it just me or do the new wolves look like giant rotten rats in the pic? Hope it's the angle and paint job as well, or else gobbo wolf riders here I come.

SD

The painting is abit iffy and the image is abit blurred. The current wolves are pretty damn ugly as it is. These arent amazing but atleast an upgrade.
Then just add a little ragged fur/flesh/muscles(whatever you think is missing!) on the mini and it´s going to look great.

The only area we´re I think we are let down in are the characters. I dont know why the hell the designers of the characters felt it was a good idea to add flying skulls, cloaks with a life of their own, HUGE tusks(could be to compensate something...). Konrad is better though but sadly ruined but having 100000 bat pets attached to himself.

So far I am happy with the range other than the characters we´ve seen so far.

can anyone shed any light on why the new vampires are adorned with giant tusts and all manner of odd cloaks and bats and scyths, and skulls and stuff, is it just me that thinks the new vamps (from the pics iv seen) look overly complicated. and i was wondering if anyone knew why they were, do they serve a reason or is it just the whim of the scultper?

Hum, I think that new wolves are like resident evil or I am legend ones, but their heads are oversized IMO. Maybe I´m the only one here, but I prefer the actual ones. For cool wolves, look that hobgoblin dog of war special character, Oglah Khan, his wolf was just wonderful.

The current ones don't look dead at all ;)

On the other hand, these new ones look too dead (is that possible?)

anyone think the new wolves look like half skeletal hamsters?

i would have liked to have seen less decy and more wolf imo.

but i will say i like them for now, untill i see them in the flesh, or lack off

If you don't really like either of them, just buy a box of gobbo wolf riders, DON'T PUT THE GOBBOS ON THEM! (found out the hard way), get a modeling knife, put a few scratches on 'em, green stuff up some dead things i.e. an empty eye socket or what-not, and build up a painting scheme of base coat chaos black, 25% black 75% codex grey, then dry brush pure grey. Perfect results every time, kinda like uncle bens (lying bugger)

Its cheaper then buying dire wolves seperatly, and looks better then the current models. Voila! problem solved!

I prefer actual ones right because they look alive, I think that they should look more spectral or feral than rotten... In fact I thought before reading the rules that they were real alive wolves.

I agree with people who think they look like big headed hamsters, maybe they would look better in a skaven army XD XD XD

i like them (please don't shoot me!) only because the current ones really , reeeaaaallyy suck!
these look dead so i'm going to buy them!

i'll be buying the new wolves ofr sure. most of my army is converted, and it will be a relief not to have to convert wolves, that im going to have to convert into rat wolves anyway, into looking undead :D besides, looking like giant hamsters is a plus for my, if they're already rodents it cuts down on the converting again

Greetings.

I will buy them so long as they serve a purpose in my army. I will get the book first then see what has changed and what is new. The new spearhead box won't have an army book in it according to my local GW staff so I will buy the book then units.

Then, we can agree:

1) actual wolves (plastic plus metal heads) aren´t as good as they are supposed to be for many reasons (some people think they aren´t enough dead and some people think they aren´t threatening or scaring)

2) New wolves look very rotten and, obviously, dead (we improve the scaring look considering people opinions)

3) But their heads are oversized in the photos we have now (I think the reason is that their bodies are skinny and hair is concentrated on their heads, and it looks like lion manes) and that causes some disappoint in some people (me, for example)

conclussion: search other enterprises' miniatures, convert the ones you have or sculpt new ones.

Ugh.. those Dire Wolves look really awful.. I don't think even a decent paint job could save them for me.. I'll be sticking with my gobbo wolf rider Dire Wolves thank you very much.

The cover for the new army book looks awesome though.

hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD

Dire hamsters??? This is the best I´ve read for ages...

Then, if the other army brings a cat, what can we do??? throw him a ball of wool??? That would be the first long range weapon since we lost the skull thrower...

OMG we´re losing our minds because of waiting...

Maybe its just the pictures/painting scheme? You could easily add to it with green stuff, or paint them a bit more "rotteny", after all, they could be good enough models when they're not painted

:respect for the hamsters comment: :)

The new Dire Wolves are no where near as majestic looking as the gobo wolves. However they could have some potential if you mixed some parts with the gobo ones.

After seeing the new painted Vlad I am so gonna get him as general for my new army.

The whole look of the army appears to be one of constructed units from old bits of whatever was alive and I think to that end the Dire Wolves hold this up very well. I am going to be including them in my army simply because it goes with my theme of having multiple constructs of different sorts in the same army.

I totally agree with richie, that mix could work very well.

I'm thinking of mixing white lions and wolves;););)[/i] (have you seen le pact des loups? I don´t know the name of the film in english...)

Mixing bits is all well and good, but don't you guys find that it starts to get pretty expensive after awhile if you are buying two seperate boxes of stuff to put together one unit??

It does get expensive but on the other hand, you might make units which almost no one else got and that alone is a factor for some ;)
I know that almost no one, if any, got the same Daemonette command group as me :P
