I apologise if this has be covered elsewhere, but I was wondering what people's recipe's for vampire skin are? I ask because I'm struggling to get the 'right' look i.e. the characteristic deathly pale. Pictures of the finished product or even better step by step would also be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Al

Hey there!

You want to know about Vampire skin eh? Well we have several different articles on CN that cover how to achieve the perfect ghoulish look. Each are slightly different but all look equally good. I will make you aware of them first and then if you're still struggling you are very welcome to PM me.

Firstly I'd like to make you aware of CN's very own magazine 'The Invocation'. The content of them is very much made by members for members and so they cover Battle Reports, Tactics and just plain modelling. A great article on Vampire skin can be found in The Invocation 6 on page 53. It was created by our very own Redarmy27 and is a recipe I use as pretty much standard for all undead beasties. You can find the Invocations in the articles section of the top navigation bar or here.

The second article was by a member called Dark Sheep. Again this can be found on the Articles bar under P&M Aticles: How to paint Vampires. The link for the page is here.

Finally I'd like to draw your attention to an article I wrote a couple of years back. It was about painting monstrous skin generally but used a vampire as a focus. It's much more general in terms of applying the skills elsewhere to other models too. The thread link is here.

I hope this is helpful to you. Like I said, if this doesn't give you exactly what you're after please PM me and I'd be happy to discuss it with you in more detail!

Good luck!

I have been seeing how far I can push washes in painting and in it I have come up with a skin tone for vampires that I quite like

Prime white
Highlight with white (bolder brighter white)
wash with ogryn flesh
wash lightly with black, removing any advanced pooling

For my vamps and other pale peeps I use(in the old colors but new ones have been tested by me and follow suit according to the official conversion chart):

- Dheneb Stone as a base
- Levaiathan Purple wash(yes really) just not too much use it nice and thin
- re-do with Dheneb Stone, only leave the recesses purplish
- final highlight Dheneb Stone mixed with some white

Nice pale unhealthy pallor. I use it for my vamps, dark elves/eldar and servitors and tech priest models.

I've been experimenting with a similar technique. Gives a nice pale, ashy tone.

I think it might help if the OP states what hue he's talking about. I prefer a silver/blue but some might prefer just shades of grey, some purple, etc.

I've got about just under 13 years of experience painting vampire skin; I'll be happy to share.

I'm using the army painter paints (From the mantic sets).

I prime black.

Base coat of flesh.
Then bone.
Wash with either black or a darker brown.
Highlight with white.

The end result looks pale and in that borderline unnatural while retaining some humanity to it.
