Vampire Transformation Question

Hi all, after browsing this forum it seems like a very well developed community. I am writing a Mordheim novel and one of the central characters is a vampire and up until this point I have not needed a reason for his becoming undead, but, I am over 60 pages in and am reaching that point now. His first entrance into the plot is after the process of becoming undead and a flashback is now needed. I am very interested to know the various ways one can get to that undead crux point and the process of transformation. Any insight you all can give me would be much appreciated. Is the only possible way to become undead through the "sire" process or can it happen elsewhere through the various forces of chaos? The character is not meant to be a thousand year old vamp who has ravaged the old world for hundreds of years, contrary to the many existing figures. Thanks again for your help.

Well, to become a Vampire you would need a sire to give you the blood kiss. the warhammer blood kiss is pretty similar to the regular fiction ideal except you go comatose for a while.

There are other methods of becoming "undead" and prolong your life through necromancy, for instance, drackenfels is a character in a warhammer series who lives for an extreme ammount of time, using the power of chaos to formulate himself a new body every now and then out of various other peoples parts, which when he brings them all together, are almost perfect (save for the face which he wears a mask over)
Some more examples of these ideas pop up throughout the texts

Vampires are cut off from the realm of chaos, so it is unlikely they would bless someone with the power of being a vampire, due to the loathing of pretty much every god (not just the chaos ones) of vampires.

I'm sure there are many siring situations you could use to bring about your characters creation without detracting from him. maybe if you tell us a little about him we could help you with why he became undead?

Appreciate the help, unfortunately, there is virtually nothing written on the old world from the Mordheim perspective so the involvement of vampires in Mordheim is very vague aside from the close proximity of Sylvania. I am confused to their motives within the wyrdstone hunt.

Well, the big head honcho Vlad von Carstein for one sent in people to retrieve some for him due to its raw magic power. I would assume most other vampires are hunting wyrdstone for the same reason, to cast some powerful spells of death/ undeath. alternatively, some of them could be there collecting the wyrdstone to fleece off to someone else, or perhaps they have an agreement to gain some for another person. Or even they are just there because they want to limit the ability of their enemies to access this resource.
While Wyrdstone is quite a corrupting thing, vampires are not as affected by it due to their nature.
